My perspective is I wouldn’t put any value to Mikheyev, would be fine with salary coming back. His term is a little longer and he is at least a useful player, but nonetheless he doesn’t fit anything the Blues would be trying to accomplish in trading Buchnevich.

As for Lekkerimaki, it would be closer, but it still doesn’t fit a large organizational need. He’s a good prospect but his skill set is pretty similar to Snuggerud/Dvorsky as being a good PP one timer option.

Willander checks a lot of boxes for what the Blues need in their system. Personally I don’t care too much that the pick is deferred but it is certainly not preferred as it sets a timeline back further.

Podkolzin to me is a salvage project similar to Broberg from Edmonton. Blues are in a position to do something like that. But I wouldn’t put his value much above a 3rd if it were 1-1 him for a pick.

I’m personally not moving Buchnevich unless it fits an organizational need. Which is a good defensive prospect. He works really well here and works better with Thomas than Kyrou does. The Blues also don’t need to be in a rush to move him as they could very easily ask for a package similar to what you have put together next trade deadline. Our front office is not going to tank, right or wrong in one’s opinion. But they don’t want to become Buffalo and want to create a good culture for the youth wave that’s about to come up on forward and with Lindstein on the back end.

Thread: Homecoming
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reason</b></div><div>It's because most people understand that one month doesn't make up for 2 years. Most players ride hot streaks/play above their norm for stretches from time to time.

What I find funny is how many fans post that X player has good value "now" when they play good for a short stretch, the player usually always regresses back to their norm shortly after.

When Garland has played 82 games at his current level of play I'll be more convinced he's worth most/all of his current contract.</div></div>

What do you mean, "make up for two years?"

Garland has always been a great player. The problem Canucks fan have with him is his cap hit, because we live in a cap world and fans get mad if a player might only be worth 90% of their cap hit. They see almost 5M playing in the middle-six and lose their minds because they think Garland's not good enough to be played in the top six. When you have genuine forward depth, as the Canucks do, you can spread out your skill and minutes to make your entire team better.

Since 2021, Garland has been 55th among forwards in points at 5v5 over the past two seasons with 78. He's tied with JT Miller for points at 5v5, higher than players like Marchand, Reinhart, Suzuki, Tavares, and Tuch in fewer games played. Garland gets minimal PP time since the top unit is usually out there for 1:40 each powerplay. I'm sure if the Canucks had injuries to Pettersson, Miller, or Boeser, Garland would be one of the first choices to come in to join PP1. You want a guy who is able to contribute goals while not on the powerplay. There are only 54 players you could upgrade to and of that list only 2 (Stephenson, Duchene) by my count have a lesser cap hit than Garland does.

Garland's also been phenomenal defensively, a CF% of 52 for his past two seasons in Vancouver, on two bottom-10 teams that's remarkable. Among forwards over those two seasons: 51st in Takeaways/60 (min. 100 mins played), 93rd in CF% REL, a PDO of 101.6 when the rest of VAN was averaging about 96.8.

It blows me away that Canuck fans still want to trade him after the blueline problems have been resolved because they wrongly believe he's overpaid. Garland is a big reason the 3rd line is gelling so well, he's the reason teams are now having to split their best defensemen up across three lines instead of two. Garland's an absolute beast, and I'm tired of the disrespect he gets on these forums. Any team in this league would kill to have a player like him.

Ryan O'Reilly - The price here largely depends on how you see O'Reilly. If he's the best center available, he's worth a 1st + a prospect + a small add of some kind. The problem is he's not doing very well and it looks like Horvat is both available and having a great seeason. Best Player Available (BPA, I'll be using this again), on this trend is pretty much out of reach for O'Reilly. After BPA price, it largely depends on how he does this season. If he comes up to the trade deadline scoring under .3 points per game, like he is currently, there just won't be a big return available. He'd be in competition for teams with guys like Toews and the value just plummets once there's competition on the market. O'Reilly would surely drop into the 2nd round pick range or lower. If he can turn it around and have a half decent season, you are probably looking in the 1st round pick range.

Poeple will reply complaining about my O'Rielly valuation so I just want to emphasize how much competition there is out there for centers this season. Vancouver fans will say Horvat is the best available (I probably agree with them and I don't often agree with Vancouver fans on here) and is worth a big return. Chicago fans will say Toews will get a big return, he's got 7 goals in 10 games. Blues fans will say O'Rielly will get a big return. 1 of those fan groups is right, 2 may be right but 3 aren't. There just isn't that kind of demand driving up the price on the 3rd center down the list.

Vladimir Tarasenko - Remember I said BPA would come up again? Well it's because Tarasenko isn't it. There simply isn't a strong demand for wingers at the deadline and the 1 or 2 teams who want a high end winger want Kane. Tarasenko might fetch a 1st and a small piece if the Blues get lucky with the other wingers who are available.

Thomas Greiss - Greiss isn't going to be anyones choice for a starter going into the playoffs. Teams would trade for him as a backup plan though. Historically, they fetch in the 3rd round pick range.

Ivan Barbashev - Decent depth option, not having a great year either. He's got the one standout season but has reverted to form this year. Hasn't found much success in the playoffs, doesn't really play a standout playoff style of game. He'd have a lot of competition for what he is. He's got mid round pick written all over him.

Noel Acciari - I could try to describe him but what's the point. It's Noel Acciari. He'd probably be further down the totem pole for teams than Barbashev. If someone does trade him for him, and I don't think someone will, it'd be a later round pick.
