A Healthy Roster
Robertson has been a 20 goal, 40 point pace player averaging 11 mins a night in his first full professional season (rest have been held back by injury) and you think the best course of action is to trade him for a guy just drafted in the late 4th round?

my top 3 defenseman addition options
Peeke has been healthy scratched in Columbus. Don’t think he’ll solve any of our problems. Cheap option for sure, but would be nothing more than a 3rd pair guy making 3 mil

Seattle Lands WILLY
Hanafin declines, and he’s not the kind of defender we need. Also Nylander to Seattle should involve Wright. Nylander is a top 15 winger in the league at worst, and with a guaranteed contract he should fetch an elite future prospect+

That would really suck but I dont see any reason why he would decide to refuse leaving l Pittsburgh. He’s a 4C here, has only played here a few years, and it’s not like they’re the best team in the league. If he truly does decide not to waive for anywhere, then he still works as the 4C here, it just means that Eller needs to move up and the overall depth is hurt

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fabi</b></div><div>Sadly I think that it is impossible to trade Carter.</div></div>
Maybe. He still provides value as a faceoff man and maybe in the lockeroom but that’s basically it. I could see a team being interested in him at 1.6M to play 4C (not saying they should be interested, just that some teams value intangibles a lot). I could see it going something like:
Pittsburgh acquires FC
Arizona/Philly/whatever acquires Nylander + Carter + SJ 2026 3rd
Arizona/Philly/Whatever flips Carter (1.6 mil retained) for a 7th or FC or some comparable player without the NMC
This way Pittsburgh clears contract and Carter ends up somewhere he’s willing to go. Some contender will look at that 60 FO% and the 29 points and consider him good enough to be worth 1.6M

But Brodie is better than Parayko for this year and could be re-signed for around the same or less than what his current contract is. I don’t see why he wouldn’t re-sign

Neither are very physical but Parayko does have a noticable higher amount of hits than Brodie over the last 3 seasons (222 to 134)

Brodie is better defensively than Parayko and on a much better contract. Outside of getting a bit more physical and more big slap shots from the blue line, this makes the team all around worse. If we’re really targeting a defenceman like this, Weegar is a much better option

I get what you mean but it still doesn’t cost nearly as much to dump as what you have here. Past LTIR contracts being dumped have usually cost picks ranging from 5th rounders to 7th rounders (ex. Voracek, Bishop, Clarkson when we took him a few years back, etc)

Ah yes, because 8 goals and 14 points in 43 career playoff games (15 goal, 27 point pace over 82 game season) who stinks defensively is worth so much more than 5.5 mil. Say what you want about physical play; you could get equivalent production and physicality from plenty of 1-2 mil players in FA

Even factoring in injuries hes been on a 21 goal pace over the last 3 years.</div></div>
Injuries don’t make him any more valuable. He stinks defensively, and hasn’t been on a 40 point pace since 2018/19

It’s really whichever of those 3 fits best. I like Abbruzzese’s upside more than Steeves and McMann, but I do agree that Steeves and McCann are more certain. Regardless, a spot for whoever performs the best of the 3 should be made in the full time lineup

A swinny offseason
Stanley is dust, not worth it for really anything, not to mention Hirvonen is actually decent.
Tufte I believe was on waivers earlier this year. He’s a nothing piece. Nick Robertson is still only 21 years old, why sell when his value is at its lowest?
Murray shouldn’t cost that much, if anything to dump. We got him when he had 2 years left on his deal and were paid a 3rd + 7th to take him. He’ll now only have 1 year left on his deal, has actually had a decent year when he’s played, and has an incredibly low buyout cost if I’m not mistaken. At most he costs the same to dump as what we got to take him, which is less than this.

AZ will not get close to the value they want
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>McSorley</b></div><div>From who? Lol</div></div>
Petersen alone will cost a big asset to dump, let’s say Turcotte (realistically more but for ****s and giggles let’s say it’s just Turcotte)
2 mil retained for 3 years costs roughly a 1st (6 mil of salary eaten)
Vejmelka costs the 2nd + 3rd
You’re left with Chychrun full salary for Sean Walker. Not exactly fair

They won’t get what they want but they’ll get much better than this, especially with retained salary and taking on a major cap dump
