I like Ryan Ellis and all, but I'd be pretty disappointed if the most injury prone 31 yo dman in the league was the centrepiece of a deal where I'm shipping out a superstar 24 yo.

It is very realistic lol. if you think it should be a 2nd and a 3rd then thats fine. But he has positive trade value. Youre delusional</div></div>
Toffoli for Palmieri and 2nd. You just said you're paying a 2nd to dump Palmieri.
So Toffoli is 100% worthless in this scenario????
Well, I see I've been arguing the wrong point. I'll have to join a few the others and say Toffoli would be worth more than... zero.
Actually don't care anymore.

Palmieri was just traded for a first and players a year ago. tHaT kyLe pAlMieRi? See? thats stupid. teams learn their lessons. Palmieri doesnt have the point production but he isnt playing bad. And theres a big difference between a year left and 2 lol. Shayne is now gonna go for likely a 2nd+prospect or a 1st. teams like the Habs are gonna jump on the opportunity to double dip at TDLs. You are obviously not involved in the advanced analytics community lol</div></div>
Palmieri had value as a 28 yo rental, half a year removed from a pretty productive season. Are you aware that player's games tend to decline as they age? Hey, there might even be some analytics that support that??
I'm sure you can pull 1000 different analytics relative to teammates, and everything else to show how great Palmieri actually has been this year.
Long story short. He's 30, making $5M per with term, and has 3g in his last 42 regular season games. He could have 100% WAR, it's not going to make him worth his contract today, and definitely not 2 years from now.
Also, if he's still going to be such an effective player 2 years from now, why do the Isles ship him out?

I wouldn't mind Pitlick as a 13th forward, but his shooting % is something like 46% this season. I really don't think that'll continue the rest of the year.
They likely are waiving him as a favour to give him a chance to catch on elsewhere. It's not like Minny is light on left shooting wing options.

You mean Shayne Gostisbehere, who would be 4 years younger at the time of the deals, makes less actual $$ then his caphit, and Philly paid a 2nd & 7th to get rid of him?
That Shayne Gostisbehere?

Selling teams don't want or need 32 yo overpaid players in return for rentals they are selling.
Palmieri would be tough to move today on that contract, I don't imagine it will be any easier 2 years from now.

Mikheyev is making $2.19 in real $$ this season. Really don't see any chance he takes $800K paycut.
Leafs don't need Domi. Give Mikheyev $2-2.5, give Kase around the same.

Has anyone fought more than him in the last 5 years or so?
Also, off the top of my head, I would think McDermott qualifies pretty easily. Clifford is tougher than 3/4 of those forwards.
Marchand is a rat, not a goon.

If we dont have a deep playoff run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Agent_Of_R9</b></div><div>I understand that a lot of Leaf fans think getting rid of Marner would be addition by subtraction, and while that might be true, I have to laugh at all these ACGMs selling him and bringing back the same D core. For me, TOR’s only real weakness is the 2RD position. I don’t think it would be necessarily to move an elite piece to upgrade that, Mrazek, Kerfoot & Holl would come to mind first.</div></div>
Agreed, the only way IMO they think of moving him is if it's for a 27 or under top 4 RD, and youngish 40pt winger with upside to hit 60+ pts.

If we dont have a deep playoff run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CapFriendlysFinest</b></div><div>Just freeing up cap to have a more balanced attack and fresh outlook. Arviddson, Tierney and Robertson all add fresh life into a spot where Marner sat. Similar to how we added Bunting, Kase and Ritchie where Hyman use to be.</div></div>
The idea with moving on from Hyman was not committing long term to a 29 yo, and gamble by taking a chance on some younger players that were either coming off injuries, or were late bloomers.
You're doing the opposite here. Marner over the last 2 seasons (including this one in which he's struggled a bit) 81 games - 88 pts. He's 24 yo.
Arvidsson (28 yo) over last 2 seasons 79 games 45 pts. Tierney 84 games 26 pts. Marner is outscoring them both himself (pretty easily), and you've made the team older. Marner is also a top PK option/2 way player, so it's not as if you could point to improving the team defensively.
Robertson is in play to make the team next year no matter what happens to Marner - so he wouldn't be part of the equation.

Should the Leafs nab Kane plus TDL move
On one hand, Kane seems like an idiot who at 30 years old, hasn't grown up yet.
On the other hand, he's still a guy that could put up 30/30, and is twice (three times) the player Dubas was hoping to get when they signed Ritchie.
Considering Simmonds is a member of the Hockey Diversity Alliance with Kane, I'm assuming he'd know him better than most. I'm also assuming Dubas would get Simmonds two cents if he were consicering signing him.
If the Leafs were to sign him for $1Mish or less, I'd be OK with it knowing Dubas figures the risk is worth it.

Main reason I'd do it is because if one of JT/AM are hurt like last year I'd much rather have Pavelski to play 2C than any of our other alternatives. Plus the guy has 30 points in 32 games and is a good leader, great net-front scorer</div></div>
Some good points. I just don't love paying that steep of price.
IMO a future cheap LW core of Bunting, Robertson, Amirov and Knies will be a huge advantage for the Leafs contention window.
With mikheyev and kase Leafs have more depth this year to fill in the top 9 in case of injury.

If they are replacing Holl they'll be looking to shore up their shutdown pair. So they'd need another Brodie type or a Manson type.
Not a Barrie type. They tried that before, it didn't go well.

Yeah, he's scoring at a 46 pt pace over 82 games, with minimal PP time. While playing a big role on their shutdown line and the PK.
His qualifying offer would be approx. $1.275M
But, yeah they'll just let him walk. Makes sense.

Yeah, between term and upside, not many recent comparables.
He seems pretty well perfect for what LA needs, and they can outbid pretty well any other team, so he's going to cost a lot.

Any Chychrun trade will more than likely start with Rasmus Sandin as the main piece. There's no way around that. If you want something good, you have to offer something good in return.
If Toronto is to meet Arizona's reported price, it'll likely look more like
:mapleleafs
Jakob Chychrun
Arizona 2022 3rd round pick
:coyotes
Rasmus Sandin
Matthew Knies
Toronto 2022 1st round pick
Toronto 2023 2nd round pick (conditional to a 1st if Toronto wins the cup)
Which if I'm Toronto, I'm not touching that deal.</div></div>
