another scheif trade
I'd do this as a Jets fan. Nylander>Scheif imo and hopefully Perfetti could take the 2C role (or a stopgap FA for now). Plus Nylander is younger.

I wouldn't be so sure on that. It's unlikely but it's not impossible. If Sandin surpasses him, then moving Muzzin would make sense.

Nylander is literally a point per game player with a great value contract. I don't get why everyone trades him.

Oilers would need to add. Matthews is more effective at driving play and a better defensive player. HIs overall contributions to the game are without question greater than Draisaitl's.

I don't see why anyone would offer sheet Sandin. He's a good young player but he hasn't blown any doors off. I think he'll get a 2 year bridge and then we'll see.

Thread:
this is a deep team
The unfortunate part is they really aren’t…This isn’t me trying to be a d1ck or a troll, but they really remind me exactly of what happened with my beloved Ducks.
Too many big money contracts to aging veterans without filling the actual holes.
When you having an aging starting goaltender who has been below league average for 4 of the past 5 seasons and a backup that hasn’t done any better, it’s a recipe for disaster. Again, not trying to be a wanker, but your past two trips to the playoffs aren’t even a thing if COVID doesn’t happen. That shouldn’t take away from the run they went on last year, because I’m sure Habs fans had a blast, but it was the definition of overachieving.
A slow d-core that’s shallow enough that it has to be filled by waiver claims and 7th dmen. The fact that there’s any hype around Chris Wideman shows you how “deep” they are.
A forward core that has (raise your hand if you’ve heard this before just about every season for the past 15 years Habs fans…) no true 1C, and has a bunch of mid 6 wingers. Realistically, who’s the scoring threat on offence? Who do you put on the ice in a tight game?
The prospect pool isn’t great either. There are some decent ceiling guys, and I do think Caufield is a lot better than he’s showing, but it’s not a high end stream of talent at this point.
All that being said, Jeff Gorton took the Rangers and turned them into a young, potential powerhouse in a very short period of time. I think he’s got his work cut out for him in Montreal, but if he (and you guys!) are patient, he should be able to turn it around in a relatively reasonable amount of time. Again, I’ve got nothing against the Habs, but it’s pretty easy to see where the (large number of) issues are.
Cheers!

TVA Sports asked you nicely to swap Klingberg for Petry
The only logic I can think of (and its really pushing it) is this.
Say the team wants to try and still make the playoff this year(thats a big part of this) but Klingberg in wanting out has become a problem. Looking at the pending UFA RD theres Letang (whos probably not available) then the gap after Klingberg is ......big. There no internal RD options in the system and noone you draft will be ready in a year. Which leaves Haakanpaa as the only RD.
Petry for the point slump he is in still has solid analytics. In the grand scheme of things his slump is pretty small relative to the previous 4 seasons where he was 13th in points among dmen. Stars management could think if he bounces back the got essentially klingberg on the contract they wanted.
This offseason if the market is at all similar to last year will be stupid for RD prices. Ristolainen may get Petry money on a 5-6 year term.
As crazy as it may sound If Klingberg isnt coming back that may unfortunately be the best replacement option.
As far as the trade goes the habs would likely be willing to take khudobin in the deal (which would allow you to keep the 2nd) and I could see a condition put on the trade that if the habs trade klingberg back to a western team the habs have to give up their 2nd (it would be around 35th overall so a decently valuable piece)
But even that is a pretty generous assumption

Eyelanders
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlackwoodForVezina</b></div><div>they have ten million to work with</div></div>
Let's say the cap goes up and Campbell gets 5 mil (cap isn't going to go up after arena restrictions were put in place and Campbell will get higher so this is all very much worse than I actually lay out). That leaves 6.7 mil for 7 players. First thing first is to re-sign RFAs, Kase Liljegren and Sandin. None of whom will be getting league minimum deals. Lets say 3 mil for Kase, 1.25 for Liljegren and 1.75 for Sandin (again these guys could very easily push for more outside of Liljegren so this is actually much worse again). The Leafs then have $769,384 left over to sign 4 players.
They can't afford to pay a backup goalie 3.75 million. You haven't done anything to solve that problem, just paid a fortune to switch the problem player. The only way this trade makes sense is if the Leafs are giving up on re-signing Campbell as their starter. At that point, why are they paying to move Mrazek? They'll still need a backup/tandem partner for Varlamov.

does Campbell stay
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>There is no way the Leafs have the cap without dismantling their team. And you can't trade or buyout players which would still give the Leafs cap. There are other good teams that could afford. Campbell and where he might like to play.
The only advantage the team that "owns" a player before he goes to UFA is offering him an eight year contract. Well that ain't happening so the Leafs really don't have any leverage.
Campbell and the Leaf management can talk all that want about their "mutual love". Fact is the Leafs didn't feel that love when they did not extend him last summer and actually signed another Mrzarek for three years.</div></div>
I mean logically could u trust Campbell in a starting role before this season
The answer no. He had never been a starter and his injury history never allowed him to play a large amount of games
The original plan was he and Mrazek were gonna be a 1a/1b, Mrazek got hurt and the rest is history. Campbell played his way into being the #1 leaving Mrazek as the backup. But who wouldnt want a backup capable of playing 30+ games.
As for the money fears Campbell really has no leverage to ask for more than 5mill rn
He has never played 60 games a season like Markstrom, nor has he been a starter for more than a year. Plus little to no big cup run which also factors in to his ask.
Top that with the fact his numbers in Toronto have been the best we have seen and the opportunities we have given him all make it more likely he stays. Combined with his friendships with his teammates, coaches, and just seems to be having fun now. Plus the fanbase loves him
So thats 4 advantages right there.
Remember the last goalie to chase money. Mr. Grubauer, went from having Vezina numbers to worst in the league numbers.
As the saying goes why leave the place you are doing good in only to fail later
Got a feeling Campbell will sign a deal that will surprise people in Toronto for all the right reasons
Plus Ritchie and Dermott were probs gonna be moved anyways giving the leafs the space to give Campbell a 5mill x 5 year deal. If he wants more then look to Kerfoot as with 1 year left might as well move him as with his play rn that value is just going higher and higher rn
