Not down the middle.

middle is mediocre. suzuki is a 2c, dvorak is a 2c, pitlick is a 3c, evans and poehling are good 4cs
so yeah it’s not great but hopefully suzuki poehling evans mold into their positions

There wouldn't be a contender in the league that would be happy with Rem Pitlick as their 3C.

Don't think many contenders would want Dvorak as their 2C at the moment either.

I mean, if COVID and injuries weren't factors, we wouldn't be last, that's for sure.

The unfortunate part is they really aren’t…This isn’t me trying to be a d1ck or a troll, but they really remind me exactly of what happened with my beloved Ducks.

Too many big money contracts to aging veterans without filling the actual holes.

When you having an aging starting goaltender who has been below league average for 4 of the past 5 seasons and a backup that hasn’t done any better, it’s a recipe for disaster. Again, not trying to be a wanker, but your past two trips to the playoffs aren’t even a thing if COVID doesn’t happen. That shouldn’t take away from the run they went on last year, because I’m sure Habs fans had a blast, but it was the definition of overachieving.

A slow d-core that’s shallow enough that it has to be filled by waiver claims and 7th dmen. The fact that there’s any hype around Chris Wideman shows you how “deep” they are.

A forward core that has (raise your hand if you’ve heard this before just about every season for the past 15 years Habs fans…) no true 1C, and has a bunch of mid 6 wingers. Realistically, who’s the scoring threat on offence? Who do you put on the ice in a tight game?

The prospect pool isn’t great either. There are some decent ceiling guys, and I do think Caufield is a lot better than he’s showing, but it’s not a high end stream of talent at this point.

All that being said, Jeff Gorton took the Rangers and turned them into a young, potential powerhouse in a very short period of time. I think he’s got his work cut out for him in Montreal, but if he (and you guys!) are patient, he should be able to turn it around in a relatively reasonable amount of time. Again, I’ve got nothing against the Habs, but it’s pretty easy to see where the (large number of) issues are.

Cheers!

Those are fair assessments, but there are two points that I disagree on.

1. Allen being league-average. It is known that he is a backup, not a starter. When he's deployed as a starter, his stats usually take a hit because he's overplayed (like this season). When used reasonably (like last season or his last season in STL), he's an amazing backup.

2. The prospect pool. While I agree that it's not jaw-dropping since Romanov & Suzuki graduated, it's pretty fair for a team that was competitive for the most part of the last decade. Since 2013, they picked 19.55th overall on average in the first round. Naturally, the prospect quality should improve after this season.

It is deep but it all depends on the effort which isn't there at all. If effort Habs good team, if not Habs suck. Simple as that.

Yeah, I suppose if you don't move Sergachev, and you pick Tkachuk instead of KK maybe you're better off...I just think the fact that, at some point, you've gotta hit on a pick, regardless of whether it's 1 OA, or in the 20's...That's why I said it reminds me of the Ducks...Burkie's drafting was horrid, and Bob Murray wasn't much better for a number of years.

With Allen, I really don't really agree...In his entire career, he has had 3 years where he was actually above league average. 2 of them were as a starter in St. Louis, and 1 was as backup in Montreal. Aside from that he has graded out as average or below. I guess I just don't understand that narrative.

All good though! As always, I appreciate the back and forth!
