Hamilton REPLACEMENT - LEAFS BLOCKBUSTER
This trade is terrible. It’s real bad for both teams, Svechnikov is budding superstar Carolina can build around for years to come. And the last thing the Leafs should be doing is trading away from their already subpar defense to add another scoring winger. Dumb idea for Leafs and just god awful for the Canes

Yeah I agree it would suck to lose Nylander in real life. Just used him as it was easiest to add in this scenario

Not saying it would be a hill I’d be willing to die on, but I’d look to counter with Johnsson plus Sharks choice of either Timashov or Bracco.

Josh Anderson should be top target, Simmonds and Reaves would be pickups I’d love too. A Dman like Bortuzzo or Dillon would be nice. Adding some nasty to the group will help come playoff time

Tristan Jarry situation
Most likely they trade one of either Murray or Jarry rights in the offseason and sign the other. I don’t see a reason to worry about it beforehand, unless a team blows them away with an offer.

What is wrong with Rielly this year
He’s always been a high risk high reward defenseman and he doesn’t have a safety net of a stay at home partner anymore and lost his spot on the pp1, so the rewards haven’t been there but the risks remain. He might be the only Leafs player that’s looked worse since the coaching change. But have to cut him a little slack on the Mcdavid undressing, because I mean it’s freaking Mcdavid. That kids pretty good if you haven’t noticed

Ceci for Vatanen

I agree he’s looked much better lately. He’s a good shot blocker and skates pretty well. He was just misplayed at the start of season as a top pair guy. But that 4.5 cap hit makes it not a bad idea to still look at moving him if you can replace him with someone equal or better but cheaper.

A lot of it comes from a swagger we get from an us vs everybody mentality. Doesn’t seem to matter what teams fan base it is, they hate the Leafs for whatever reason. Especially the other Canadian team fans because they know when the Leafs come to town, our fans are taking over their building and making it our own. The hate gives us confidence.
P.S I was super stoked to see Ovie get his cup. Congrats to your boys for getting one after years of falling short

Maybe not a major upgrade on Ceci but yeah I’d say he’s an upgrade, plus a little over a million cheaper cap hit. Ceci is the better skater, Dillon is bigger and stronger. He’d be a good net clearing presence

Trading a 23 yr old speedy winger for a soon to be UFA Dman makes too much sense to you? This would be like asking for Meier for Ceci lol. Except kapanen signed for about half the money and Dillon a left shot not right. Still make too much sense?

Leafs need a guy like Reaves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLSage</b></div><div>Leafs do not really need Reeves and will just call up Marchment if they want to add some sandpaper.</div></div>
Thing is Leafs can’t really call anyone up unless they make a trade or someone else gets hurt again. Only thing that’s kept them from running a 20 man roster is the constant string of guys going on LTIR. Leafs need sandpaper and a way to keep Engvall up with the Leafs. If Leafs are going to win in playoffs they need someone who’s going to keep Boston players and Wilson of the Caps from taking free runs at guys. Think AA takes a run Kerfoots knee if someone like Reaves is out there? All respect to Holl for stepping up there but that’s not exactly his game

See you would consider it then. So your thread title maybe should have been Leafs shouldn’t be shopping Barrie. Which is something I can agree with to some extent

Getting that experience is important for the others.</div></div>
He’s not so valuable that he’s untouchable. Considering a deal involving him and looking to move him are very different concepts. It should no way happen from Calgary perspective but hypothetically if they wanted Barrie and were offering a package that included Rasmus Andersson. You wouldn’t even consider it? Calling Barrie untouchable is ludicrous, which is what you’re saying if you say you wouldn’t consider moving him.

Johnsson is more expendable than Kapanen because of Kapanen’s speed and he can kill penalties. Also have more depth on left side. I wouldn’t look to move both guys unless they were getting a power forward type guy back too.

They should be considering a good trade involving Barrie. Not that they should be looking to get rid of him, but he was always a season long rental, so if they get a good value offer for him from another team, especially one in the west, they need to consider it. Just like Blues did a couple years ago when they traded Stastny away.

Have to believe Dubas is working on something. Engvall’s play has earned him the right to stay but he’s the only waiver exempt guy so he’s most likely one of the guys getting sent down otherwise. He’s made Mango and possibly even Kappy expendable

Kyle Dubas is trash
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Price_is_the_goat</b></div><div>matthews makes 11.34 for 5 years. shoulda been a longer term deal. he basically walks straight to ufa. shoulda been longer. jack eichel makes less than matthews and is destroying matthews in everything.</div></div>
Eichel destroys Matthews in everything? Most goals Eichel has scored in a season is 28, Matthews lowest total is 34. Eichel has never gone to the playoffs, Matthews has been every year. Eichel is finally tearing it up in year 5 but his current shooting percentage this season is also double his career average, so this year could be the outlier just as much as it could be his coming out party. If you’re comparing cap numbers signed from different seasons you have to look at the cap percentage number to gauge the true difference
