<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>No one has reported he's a pennypincher LMAO. You're clueless.

Orlov just did it, DeBrincat is probably going to do it, Hall did it, Klingberg did it twice, you're clueless if you think players won't do it. Pesce knows he's not going to be worth 7 million in 7 years, that's why he wants it, it's why players want it, and Carolina never put themselves in positions to have a contract look bad. Look at the Svechnikov deal, they had no issue paying that because he's going to be 28 on expiry. If you really believe what you said, you need mental help. Seriously.</div></div>

Dreger did, on the GYB podcast less than a week ago. Orlov is 31. Not 28. If you think that is the same thing, it is not me who needs help. Klingberg is 30, not 28. Klingberg also signed a 1-year in Anaheim in the hopes of raising his stock to cash in, he failed at that, that's on him. DeBrincat, at 25, I could see signing perhaps a 3-year to cash in at 28, but that would be surprising. Players have very limited windows in the NHL to get the bag, today's circumstances will entice more players to take that risk bc of the flat cap, but Pesce is correct that the lowest risk option is to get $ and term now.

As for Svechnikov, yes he did sign shorter, as did Matthews, since they were 28 or younger, entering their prime AT EXPIRY. Those guys are signing for as much term and $ as they can when those deals expire. 28 is also THE SAME AGE THAT BRETT PESCE IS TODAY. He is not going to give you 4 prime years for $250k/yr salary. if you think that, it is not me who needs help.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Or, he could take 7.75 x 2, and then get a second chance to do it in a few years when the cap goes up.. who would do that? Short term should never be an issue for a player if they truly believe they're worth it, you think if he wanted to McDavid wouldn't go year by year signing league max contracts? Get outta here, you're clueless.

You're clueless if you think Dundon is a pennypincher. Since he arrived in Raleigh, he built a new practice facility in Wake Forest, he's already looking for permission to rennovate PNC Arena, he's trying to buy some of the surrounding land so it's not just the Arena in the middle of nowhere too. Carolina had the highest pay roll in the league at the end of the season. You think he's a penny pincher? Are you dumb or ignorant? Either way, you're wrong.</div></div>

I don't think he's a penny pincher, multiple insiders have reported that he is. And no, no one in their right mind would do that. Hockey is a tough, violent sport. You do not know if your going to get next year. You take the term and money. If Pesce feels, rightly so, like he can get 7x7 he absolutely should. A 28-year old D and 30-year old D are view vastly differently in this league. In 2 summers he will be negotiating with 3-4 years of prime service left instead of 5-6. That's massive. Less than a 0% chance should Pesce sign anything less than a 5-year deal, much less 2. That's a ****ing joke. That is leaving $34,500,000 on the table. *Maybe* he could be convinced to do 4, if you go into the 9's. Thinking paying him an extra $500,000 buys you 5 years is a joke and frankly a penny pincher's attitude.
