Leafs 2020-21 From Within Scenario
IMO this group just isn't good enough. Mikheyvov should get more if he's on a three or four year deal which I prefer. Can a guy like Johnsson be traded, even if the return in minimal and replaced at wing with Kershov. Then Leafs 2.4m in more cap, then maybe the Leafs can get a moderate veteran Dman, to help in the transition of Sandin and Liljegren into good NHLers.

Alternatively, put Mikheyev with Tavares and Marner. Although I must say I like the idea of Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kapanen. The three of them have an insane speed, and it would be great to watch.
In the end, it would be hard to go wrong with the top 9 this year.

I am impressed with Mikheyev as well. Back on July 2, I posted a team that had Mikheyev making the team and saying that he will surprise everyone by adapting to the smaller ice quickly. I am also pleasantly surprised at Gauthier progress as well.

Sep 23 Finding space to fit Sandin in after Dermott returns
In a perfect world I would like to see sandin take his 9 games. Not being able to slide his contract in its both sandin and Lilly up for new deals the same season. I would like to see a trade involving Hyman for mayfield. This would be the perfect scenario.

Next Years 2020-21 Leafs Under Cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billius</b></div><div>Thanks. That's definitely an option because Jake Muzzin is seriously underrated and brings size and defensive chops to the team. I opted for Barrie because the Leafs need a mobile offensive threat on the right side more than anything to balance off Rielly on the left. I believe a rental will be more easily found on the left side, in Muzzin's slot as well. Doing it this way protects the 7 key forwards and 3 D. (Hyman and 4th D would be exposed to the Seattle draft).</div></div>
Hyman is a Ufa so it's fine to expose him, and he is in a bargain contract that you just don't move

Nice to see you back Billius. Your insight to the cap and the LTIR is appreciated. Just the warn you, on CapFriendly, the Leafs aren't allowed the same benefits as other teams have when they have players on LTIR. Clarkson and Horton are just fake injuries so the Leaf can sign Marner. :s

It will be difficult for management to handle this roster in a way that keeps them from going over the cap for even one day. And when you look at the roster, there’s not really anyone expendable @ over $1 million.

How I Understand it Works
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I get the feeling that the only people who really understand how this LTIR stuff works are the actual professionals and legal eagles.
We just had a nice earthquake near here -- I went on the government's earthquake map (a commonly visited site here in SoCal) and see that there was one today in British Columbia, too.</div></div>
There are some technical issues with LTIR. But then fact is teams are not cap punished for having injured players. And for some reason some folks believe LTIR does not apply during the summer. That's false. Teams get cap freedom when a player is on LTIR....and especially useful if you know the player is going be on LTIR all season.....Horton, Clarkson and Hossa come to mind.
The only really affect having a player on LTIR is in might affect when a team can pay it's performance bonuses....whether that year or the have to deferred to he following. That's the reason Horton was on IR not LTIR ;last year with the Leafs. Leafs wanted/needed to pay their Bonuses last season instead of delaying them to the expensive (Matthews/Marner) this season.

Leafs with Nylander signed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blanche</b></div><div>The cap hit remains the same during the contract, regardless when you pay the player, term divided by sum$$. Sign Nylander for whatever term and cash that would permeate a trade in the summer when they will require cap to sign Marner and Matthews. By doing so, Toronto would assure themselves the best scenario to try to win the cup this year.</div></div>
The point the author of this post made has been well documented and is correct, as long as the first year is all salary and not bonus money. If its bonus money then then it won't affect the cap hit in years 2-6. Also don't trade Nylander, you won't get fair value and trading him for less than fair value is just poor asset management. There are other trades that can be made to improve the line up. Losing a Nylander trade to upgrade 1 defenceman isn't a good idea unless you are getting a guy who could be a legit #1 someday and that just isn't going to happen.

Marc (or anyone) becomes an insider when someone wants to information (real or fake) to the public. It's not that it's real digging by Savard, someone from the Leafs or Nylander camp wanted this story out.

Can Pickard Become a Starter in the Future?
Part of the reason as to why he didn't get claimed was that there aren't a lot of teams in need of a backup goalie. Edmonton could use one, but it seems like they trust Brossoit. Toronto wanted to get him after he cleared so he could be sent directly to the Marlies. Maybe he just had a bad camp with Vegas, but the guy can be a good backup at the very least. He was so much better than Varlamov last season, and I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the backup in Toronto. If Andersen were to get hurt, I'd expect Pickard to get more starts than McElheinny.

Hey Bill, so you can now imagine what's going on at camp. Keep an eye on the 3 Swedes. . . Rosen spectacular again today and Dermott paired with Liljegren so maybe down the chart a bit. You're right about RW depth, although it's high end depth, so maybe overload top 6. Depth on the left side beyond top 5 more questionable. . . Some likely would fit better as trade fodder. One of the biggest roster questions has to be if Babcock values what Martin brings over more speed and skill?
