<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Rumours for Hanifin likely won’t pick up until after this season, as he is still our #1LD and an important piece to our team, but come the off-season, we will be able to commence contract extension discussions in which we will find out whether he’s a) interested in staying in Calgary/Canada, b) wants to test free agency or c) we should facilitate a trade to another team either as a rental or on a Sign &amp; Trade

I’m extremely nervous about East Coast Born Americans, as we’ve had a few not want to stick around. BOS has always seemed interested in local born Hanifin and he trains there very summer, so it’s a good Trade Partner and Destination for Hanifin

Given we’ve signed Weegar long-term, Kylington should be back and Poirier is coming along well, I don’t know that Lohrei will be a want or need, but I imagine Players Born in Wisconsin or Colorado should be much easier to re-sign.

CGY will want one of Zacha, DeBrusk or Carlo coming back for sure with a Pick and Prospect or whatever to balance it out. Fabian might be of interest depending on whether yet another American in Coronato signs and plays in CGY

Two other BOS players who are appealing to us are Calgary Born Taylor Hall and AJ Greer. Maybe Hampus Lindholm wants to head to CGY by then too, I don’t know, but we definitely like our Swede’s

Otherwise the only reason Hanifin would be moved any time soon would be in a Trade for or to make room for a perceived upgrade, like Chychrun as MoxNix identified OR for an Amazing Top-6 Forward we could sign long term Pastrnak, Meier, etc.</div></div>

Perfect response thank you. I find the whole picking your spot thing happening in NHL as inevitable part of player empowerment. It will never be as bad as NBA due to size of rosters, but moving in that direction. Boston is in a great spot to benefit from that trend, but it's not good for the sport overall in my opinion. You're 100% right about Hanfiin training here and the stories about Zacha living here in offseason certainly seemed to be a big factor in acquiring him. I love having local guys on team. 2015 draft was convinced we were trading picks 13-15 to trade up for Hanfiin so wouldn't be surprised if he ends up here someday.

Canadian attention is on a different planet from even a passionate Original 6 market in the USA. But I also see Johnny Hockey as maybe a unique case, seems like a pretty shy kid from his Spittin Chiclets interviews, Columbus seems like a perfect spot for him. And Tkachuk seemed to be a Sutter issue, Brady is obviously happy in Ottawa. Should Matthews leave for Arizona however.....(only trolling Leafs fans)
