A Neutral View on a Potential Eichel Trade
This isn’t a low ball offer. The guy wants an experimental surgery for a SPINAL injury. He might never be the same player. It’s a serious injury.

Tarasenko for Bailey
Would need a lot of retention there. Bailey’s value is far higher than Tarasenko’s. And Bailey is a better player than Saad, Buchnevich.

Hickey is a good 3rd pairing defenseman. He’s not terrible, but yeah, Aho would probably go there before Hickey.

Tarasenko gone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>That's pretty bad for Senko. Both Komarov and Hickey are overpaid cap dumps that'd likely cost second rounder each for NYI to dump. So if we assume that those two thirds equal one second, that means you get Bellows and Wilde in return for the guy. I just don't see it happening like this.
STL is a playoff team, and they should trade Senko in a way that's mutually beneficial for both participants.</div></div>
Overpay to get rid of two NHLers who are overpayed. Komarov is clearly an NHLer, he played on the first line. Hickey proved he can be a good 6th/7th defenseman. Also has only 1 year left. And I think you are undervaluing Wilde and Bellows. Bellows was a first round pick who will most likely be an NHLer, I think he can be a top 6. Wilde was supposed to go in the first round, however he dropped to high(close to the first round) 2nd round.

Threesome
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>The 1st is what it would cost for Detroit to take Komarov and Hickey off your books. They are both pure cap dumps to us, we have no roster spots open for them and they would have to be buried in Grand Rapids.
Retaining 7.5 millions over two years on Tarasenko would be very expensive. We already have one of the retention slots taken with Pánik the next two years and we have 6 players on expiring contracts that we may want to trade at the deadline and we need the remaining two retention slots ourselves. I would not retain for two years unless I was offered two 1sts.
Detroit declines unless the return is three 1st round picks.
The limitation on the number of concurrent retentions that are allowed is the limiting factor here.
With one of the three slots already taken and with us having 6 expiring contracts that we may have to trade we don't want to give away one of the remaining two slots unless it's for a massive overpayment.</div></div>
You drastically undervalue first round picks. Three first round picks is roughly the price for Eichel, I don’t think it’d cost Eichel to get rid of two NHLers on contracts which they are overplayed by ~1million dollars.

Islanders accept. Hickey adds nice depth to to the Blues and the Islanders get 1.5 in cap relief. Works well for both teams.

It equates to 7.5M of cap from Tarasenko plus two additional cap dumps with no roster spot for them. This would be considered dead cap weight completely and no shot of LTIR.</div></div>
Hickey and Komarov are not dead weight. Komarov is a good 3rd line winger or 4th line center/winger. Hickey is a 6th/7th defenseman that, in my opinion, could be the wings 2LHD, overtaking Staal in your depth chart.

Huge overpay for Tarasenko. Going to need a lot of retention if you are sending Bailey and a past first rounder that’s progressing as if he’s likely to be an NHLer.

Agreed, not sure if there’s a need or spot for Bailey by the blues though? If the Blues want or need a 2RW playmaking defensive forward that is good on PP, PK, then this would make sense. But I do think Bailey is worth more than Tarasenko, would expect some retention if Bailey is involved.

Why tf are we getting rid of depth for no reason? Aho, Johnston cost nothing to the cap. Bellows is an ex first rounder that is progressing fine, no reason to trade him for a measly third.

3-way with Buffalo and Boston
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tkachinla</b></div><div>I'm in.
Huh? BUF is the only team who has to figure out the pieces here. BOS and CGY get one player back each. + BOS does not have the assets to trade for Eichel, or the cap space to make it work.
The word is BUF wants a big package of young assets. That's what's happening here. They get more than four 1st rounders in value (1st + 1st + Dube + Zary), plus they get a couple players for cap purposes who could also get flipped for assets at the trade deadline. This isn't a complicated structure. And in fact, the more you look at things, the more it makes sense for the Eichel trade to be a 3-way deal.
CGY wants to move on from Monahan...BUF is handcuffed and needs to trade Eichel for the best package available...and BOS needs a 2C to replace Krejci's gaping hole.</div></div>
Not saying it doesn’t make sense. Saying an 11 piece trade is incredibly unlikely.
