Fulfill center by deadline
A better prospect would be needed. The second may have to come out depending on the player coming back.

Sevo To Nucks
That's a BRUTAL return for a 2C, never mind the picks LOL. C's that win faceoffs and provide offense are as coveted as RD because they so rarely gets traded or hit free agency. Acquiring a RD heading to UFA status as the centerpiece of a Horvat trade is a mistake I highly doubt Alvin makes.

Realistic Fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>The Sens and Leafs trade make sense for Vancouver perhaps but not really for the other team.
Claesson4Norris already mentioned the contract aspect and that OTT is a team that needs help on the right side. Ottawa shouldn't be acquiring an expensive replacement for Norris, since they have internal options already.
The Leafs won't trade Kerfoot for a back up goalie/depth goaltending or an AHL D-man who isn't ready to step in if need be.
Edmonton probably declines as well, as they don't need cap space at this time and they would be selling low on JP. Not sure, where JP would play in Vancouver, if they are trading and replacing Horvat with someone else.</div></div>
Edmonton has reportedly had Pulu on the market for exactly that return and there have been no takers. I suspect Vancouver doesn't look at him as a solution either. The Toronto trade doesn't work for Vancouver either, as a potential one year rental is not what they should be looking at for even a third round pick.

Realistic Fix
Ottawa just cannot move Zub. In a rebuild move these teams might match up, but Ottawa can't afford to give Vancouver pieces to help them right now. I could see a much bigger trade such as Horvat/Stillman/Schenn for JBD/Kastelic/Zaitsev/ Branstrom and a high pick. Dumping Zaitsev solves a big problem for them and all three adds help them now.

Likeliest Horvat Destinations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>As a pure rental there are lots of teams that would be interested. But VAN should maximize value by trying to deal him to a team that would want an extension in place. CBJ is a good fit for that, maybe WSH.</div></div>
Detroit also fits as a destination for Horvat long term. Not only do they desperately need a C with his profile, but the wings are "his" team growing up, so he would be going home. Yzerman has the pieces and picks to do this and it may just be the right time in their rebuild for a move like this.

deadline with depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>It's a deadline deal. Engvall will have zero impact on the trade value, nor will the retentions. This assumes Van is out of the playoff picture mostly.
On his own Schenn may return a 3rd or 4th rounder. Horvat is a 1st and a high end prospect at minimum. Retention ALWAYS costs, deadline or not, and 3 M plus is not insignificant.
removing the 3rd round pick is probably a good call though.</div></div>

This is not nearly enough for two playoff pieces, with retention no less. The 1st and Topi “might” get you Horvat straight up. Schenn and 3 M plus in retention is costing a whole lot more than Engvall is worth (which isn’t much IMO), never mind the 3rd.

Canucks need Ferlands LTIR as things stand right now, so from a cap perspective this doesn't work at all. Canucks are NOT trading a second for a guy they cannot afford to resign who is heading to UFA.

Better Lundkvist Is The 7th D Than Traded For a 2nd
No one is giving a first (or the equivalent) for Lundkvist. I guess Drury holds on to him and takes a chance his value drops further if that is indeed the ask. It will probably be another plateauing prospect swapped one for one and Drury will call it a win and move on.

All true to one degree or another. They will likely get more “future” value elsewhere though. If that’s the only trade on the table, OK, but it won’t be. They need to hit a home run with a Miller trade. This wouldn’t be it.

Girard is a small left handed D, we already have one of those. The fact that he can play the right side is interesting but that in itself doesn't make him the ideal candidate for our blueline. Canucks are not gonna trade Miller for some ones 3rd pair RD, pretty much straight up no matter how much YOU like him. Girard might be superfluous in Colorado, but Miller isn't in Vancouver.

The only thing you have correct is that JT is a rental piece. They will get much better value at the TDL than this, never mind in the off season with retention. Middling prospects/suspects and down the road picks is a ridiculous offer for a player of Millers caliber.

Dream Team or not so dream
I am not so sure the Canucks would pass on this. Chytil is a 3 C with some upside, but Kravtsov is a guy they supposedly do like. The difference in cap puts them in compliance and allows them to accrue space as they are not in LTIR. Maybe no 4th, but I’m guessing you just wanted ur pick back lol.

Maybe some kind of pick goes back to Vancouver? The value is pretty close though considering the cap implications for Vancouver and Boston. They would have to think about it, although some fans would hate it.
