The team would be better if they moved some of that LD money to the RD and then signed some middle 2-3 middle 6 forwards. The spend they have on LD is a recipe for mediocrity because you want to play Josi 25 minutes per game so you are severely overpaying for 2 other LD to play 17.5 minutes per game. The team is unbalanced. Each of McD or Ek can handle 22 min per game so it's a waste to have the other guy for what... 13 min?
And who is gonna take that 6.25m on? There are almost no teams with money to spend.</div></div>
Having too much high quality dman isn't a problem, Nashville is doing just fine especially concidering they still have almost 10 millions under the cap.

The receiptionist doesn't even pass that message to Kevyn Adams. You want a 24 years old 6'7 first line center with a 40 goals upside from a team that doesn't want to move him at all and is very far from being cap crunched, you'll have to pay. Just look at what Chicago got for Hagel due to his low salary, Thompson has double the number of goals, play center and his 8 inchs taller and his less expensive. If you really want him, you'll have to pay a prenium price to convince the Sabres to even consider the possibility of trading him. You are far from a position of strengh in this negociation

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>But conversely ... Ekholm, who had the same number of goals and 8 more assists than Petry is worth a lot more?
Petry has 322 pts in 807 games or 0.399 pts pr game historically
Ekholm has 250 pts in 662 games or 0.377 pts per game historically
Still you are condemning him because he had a bad run for 2.5 months while the Habs had a historically bad coach and a historically bad run of injuries? How is any of that logical?</div></div>
Ekholm strengh is his defensive game you can't compare their offensive stats to say whose better. He wasn't just bad last season, at times he wasn't even looking like an NHL dman. He might bounce back and I hope so, I like him. But with his past season, his attitude, his age and his contract, it'S a huge gamble to take and I don't see any team willing to give up good assets for that gamble.

His contract is very similar to McDonagh who just was traded for a bag of pucks even if he was a very important piece for three consecutive stanley cup final. Petry is older and was awful the last season. Montreal might get something in return but it's not gonna be much.

That's not ideal but it's better than Downgrading and taking a cap dump for a usefull player.

Buffalo have their d core for the next 5-6 years in place, no need for Petry. Plus, Anderson is a valuable piece for us with Luukkonen and Comrie having just little experience in the NHL.

Vegas had to pay a second to get rid of Dadonov, you won't receive any assets for him and Ekholm is far supperior to Petry.

If you want a giant 24 years old 38 goals scorer center at a 1.4 million cap hit from a rebuilding team that has identified him as its 1C, you will have to give something that you don't want to give away. TBH it wouldn't be unreasonnable to ask for Laf

As good as Okposo except the fact Okposo just had 45 points. The last time Byron had similar numbers is 6 years ago. Also, Okposo had more goals this year than Byron in his last three combined. Okposo is taller and bigger. Oh and he his also the ''captain'' in the locker room. You can keep Byron, you need him more than we do.

Trading Pick 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hullsy09</b></div><div>The problem with what you said is “ The addition of Marino doesn't put them in a playoff position so why waste the chance to draft a franchise altering player for a good top 4 dman who will be 28-29 YO when the team is ready to contend.”, when it sounds like they are going to be aggressive in FA.
Here is an excerpt from Pierre Lebruns recent article:
“ “They’re going to spend big if they can,’’ a source reiterated Wednesday.
I wonder if they’ll make an offer to Johnny Gaudreau if he hits the market, for example. Wouldn’t surprise me if they did.”
If they want to be aggressive and turn their team into a playoff team, then Marino would be a team they could be very interested in</div></div>
But in this AGM they didn't sign anyone

Trading Pick 4
It would be way more logical for Seattle to take Jiricek or Nemec who have a higher ceiling than Marino. The addition of Marino doesn't put them in a playoff position so why waste the chance to draft a franchise altering player for a good top 4 dman who will be 28-29 YO when the team is ready to contend. If you really like Kapanen, you can always use one of the 7 second round pick to get him.

So Culumbus gives you a potential top D pair for the next 10 years in Jiricek and Boqvist for a rental who haven't played a full season in 3 years, a glorified 3rd line center, the rights of two B prospect who aren't projected to be anything special and a more than likely late first pick next year... Buying out JVR and get stuck with 4.3 M cap hit for two years doesn't make sens when we could retain 50% of his salary and trade him for whatever we can and only get 3.5 M cap hit for one year
