What is a top 10 pick worth to your team
The only players Columbus should be moving for a top-10 pick are those who are 28 years old or older...and of those, only Boone Jenner would even be close to consideration for that kind of return (Columbus would add). But there's 0 chance we move him, and <0 chance we move him to Pittsburgh.
Or we'd give you Alexander Nylander, who's on pace for 46 goals per season with us. :cool

Sillinger isn't going anywhere - not after he's bounced back - and there's no interest in moving Texier. Trying to ask for both of them is not going to win friends and influence people.

would Columbus do this
I'm really not trying to be rude, but Habs fans are testing my patience.
There's dozens of KJ to MTL ACGMs on here, and multiple per day. They all have some variation of "young roster player plus late 1st" for KJ, and the comments are always the same: if you're not giving us quality back, we're not moving our top forward prospect. Please reference any number of those first. Besides, he's coming off major shoulder surgery and is at least 5 months out from being able to play hockey again, teams don't trade players in that situation. He's not available.
If you insist on having a serious discussion, there's exactly 4 pieces we'd be interested from in Montreal, and I'm positive none of them are available:
Suzuki
Slafkovsky
Reinbacher
2024 MTL unprotected 1st
Don't waste your time or ours otherwise. We're looking for similar things (high-end, young forwards with elite potential), both teams are in a similar spot (promising young players, but few if any with star potential), and we have similar timelines to compete (2-3 years). We're not a match for a trade unless you're looking for a 1-for-1 quality, hockey trade swap. We're not moving a high end piece for lesser pieces.
Slafkovsky is your closest comparable to KJ, would you trade him for a similar return? No, no you wouldn't.
Please let this idea die. Please.

Is this what "rent free" is? Is that what the kids are saying nowadays?
For anyone just now joining the daily discussion:
1. Jenner the player is probably worth a 1st + mid round pick. (i.e. Foligno trade from 2021 which yielded a 1st and 4th. That was an overpay, but Foligno was a UFA, winger, and had worse production at the time, so Jenner's value is obviously a little higher).
2. Columbus has no intention or desire to move him. If you want him, that bumps the price up. Every CBJ fan will preface a Jenner proposal on here with "he's not available".
3. He's on a great contract, so most teams can afford him, even cap-constrained contenders. Increases his trade value.
4. His contract has term (and he's only 30, so still in his prime for the duration). Increases his trade value.
5. He plays a defensive style game as a center, scores a lot of goals, and wins ~55% of his faceoffs. Increases his trade value.
6. He brings intangibles (grittiness, work ethic, leadership). Ever so slightly increases his trade value.
7. The center market is insane right now. Increases his trade value.
I consistently put his ask at a 1st, 2nd, and A-prospect. What's it worth to your team to have a 2C making under $4M for 3 playoff runs? What's it worth to your team to make sure Colorado or Boston doesn't have that 2C making under $4M for 3 playoff runs?

Idk about most overrated. I think there’s a huge gap between his perceived value vs what he's actually capable of as a player, but honestly I still think he's a player any team trying to win the Cup would LOVE to have on the 3rd line. He's a versatile player who can slot on a 2nd or 3rd line and be effective. Scores goals, has that big playoff frame that you want in your supporting cast, and I know people roll their eyes when anyone brings up "leadership", but there is something to that (as long as the dude can actually PLAY). Is he overrated? Probably. Most overrated player in the League? Not a chance (Trevor Zegras exists lol)

Personally I'd be happy with that. I don't think Laine was ever a fit here and I think cutting ties on that big deal and moving on, with 2 mil retained and adding Beck would be a smart move.
Goes without saying though that a Laine trade isn't happening anytime soon with him entering the player assistance program. Would be pretty surprised at it happening over the summer either considering that. On the hockey side of things though, I'd take that as a CBJ fan.

The asking price for Christopher Tanev is a decent prospect and a 2nd, but since Toronto has no 2nd it will cost them their 1st round pick.
And that offer isn't getting you jenner and Peeke, Brodie and Kampf are worthless to Columbus.

...That package doesn't even get Jiricek.
Same old same old: need quality over quantity, these guys are untouchable, etc. etc.
Boone = 1st, 2nd, Cowan/Minten
Jiricek = 1st, Knies, Cowan/Minten, Niemela...and likely more, considering we don't have a 1RD replacement in the pipeline and none of those pieces are that, either. He's a top-6 pick in a strong draft who's actually performing like a top-6 pick in a strong draft, and still raw with tons of upside.
If you want a 2C and 1RD for the next 3 years at a combined $4.7M, it's going to really really really hurt.

This site has been exhausting this year. First the 3rd OA ****ty proposals, then Sillinger, then KJ, then Boone, then Voronkov, then Boone, then Chinakhov, then Provorov, then Boone, then Laine, then Boone, then Jiricek, and then more Boone. I wish Jarmo would just get fired already so someone with a clear idea of how to move forward can take over the team from this floundering front office.

CBJ retain half and probably get a 2nd back this season, a 4th is low. $1M retention elsewhere for a 4th is also high, historically (recently) it's been ~$2.5M for a 5th, so that likely only costs you a 6th or 7th.
All in all, it's probably Roslovic for a 2nd + 6th for the extra $1M elsewhere, or two 3rds + 6th if you don't have a 2nd.

2.5 on Kane cost a 3rd last year.

You do realize that Prime Jimbo is a Canucks fan, not a Jackets fan right?
Jacket fans are somewhat evenly split between sell Elvis while you can and keep him until we have a better option, but even the ones who think we should sell think it will cost a lot more than this offer.

Edmonton was playing pretty poorly and CBJ continues play poorly, yet Elvis #s are pretty solid. Reminds me of Blackwood putting up .899 save % in SJ. I think Elvis only gets better in the right situation. It's tough because there aren't goalies on the market and it would put CBJ in a tough spot moving off Elvis.

Quoting: Affectionate_Side_64

If you don't think you're as far off as I do let's just agree to disagree. What a shame it would be to miss out on both the playoffs as well as the game changers at the top of the draft this year.

This team has lost 5 OT/SO games, 10 of 19 losses are by one goal, only 3 of the 19 total losses are by 3+ goals, and we've blown leads in nearly every single one of those (it seems) including a 3-goal 3rd-period collapse last night. If this team had any killer instinct, consistency outside of goaltending, or ability to finish games at all we'd likely be in a playoff spot.
Regardless, we're too far out of the hunt this year to make the playoffs now, and CBJ would be dumb not to take this package. I love Elvis, but his value is probably never going to be higher and I'm not sure he's the long-term goalie anyway.

The Calder is Bedard's to lose. He's pretty much a lock for it at this point unless he gets a long term injury. But if there are any outside chances it will be one of Cooley, Zary, Hughes, Faber, Mintyukov, and Woll (who should be here over all 3 other goalies).
