For more context, CBJ fan pov has generally been hoping for a 2nd with retention, or a 3rd + late pick without

PHI isnt giving you both defenders for a 1st THREE drafts away and Thompson.

Thompson is a former 3rd round pick with 50 or so pts in 110+ AHL games, so I'm not sure I'd call him a high prospect.

Thompson and a 1st THREE drafts away probably is enough for Walker.

he is at the very least a top 15 RD prospect in the league, if you dont believe me the guy that does the most prospect analysis posts on this website has him at 10th:

https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4807521

also with prospects the recent play is way more important in determining value than it would be for a regular NHLer because some of these prospects are brought into leagues like the Liiga, SHL, KHL, or in this case the AHL where they have to start on the 4th line/ 3rd pair and work their way up. The AHL wrote an article about him a week or so ago but here is a snippet:

Thompson’s 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) through 43 games are just four points off the league lead among defensemen. Those 25 assists also rank him fourth in the league at the position. He also has uncorked 108 shots this season, seventh-most for league blueliners. He only has gone without a shot in three games this season.

Just dont think the inclusion of Thompson offsets the 1st being THREE drafts away or that Thompson has the draw to PHI, especially for both PHI defenders

they are asking a 1st for walker and seeler will probably get the 3rd and a 5th that philly fans on here are asking for so taking that into consideration thompson himself would probably be enough but I wouldnt sell him and I wouldnt want to sell the 2026 1st either I dont think that makes sense for either organization. I would probably offer Howard and the 2024 3rd.

Dont get me wrong, Im against TDL acquisitions and dont know if hes worth it, but the rumour/ask for Walker is a 1st, and Seeler probably a 3rd and 5th, but you'd have to think that picks that are 2,3, or 4 drafts away has lessened the value of those picks.

Maybe Thompson and a 1st THREE drafts away works for Walker, but not for Seeler as well. A 2024 1st walker is probably the rumoured/intended ask. Its also contingent on what PHI thinks of Thompson, based on a prospect system that has Andrae, Bonk, Helge, Samson, etc.... already and might devalue the RD puck rusher.

I dont know but I'd think changing a 2024 1st want to a 2026 1st offer is a gap, and while thompson or maybe a 2nd (Im guessing) bridges that gap between the three drafts, theres nothing for seeler.

I was saying that Thompson alone would be enough for walker and seeler but tampa isnt trading thompson so that doesnt matter, and yes the 1st being 3 drafts away makes it so that neither team should want to trade it/ trade for it, tampa might be bad at that point so it might be a high round pick and philly wont be in a rebuild anymore so that prospect wont match their timeline.

Walker is much better than Thompson, and acquiring him lessens the need for Thompson down the line. There is no chance that Thompson by himself is worth both Walker and Seeler. If Thompson reaches his max potential ceiling, he may be better than Walker, but that's several years away. The 1st is also devalued because it's in '26 vs teams that may offer a 1st in '24 or '25. A '26 1st+Thompson is close.for both, but Tampa might have to add a 3rd or B prospect.

how can you say that walker is better than thompson when thompson only played in one game vs boston for 11 minutes... you cant. Thompson is at the very least a top 15 RD prospect in the league, we shouldnt be trading him under a circumstance. Obviously yes the 1st is worth less because its in 2026 which is why we shouldnt trade it. Move other pieces like howard whos value is at an all time high from his WJC performance and keep the 2026 1st in case we suck at that point or at the very least can use it at a later deadline for full value.

I can because Walker and Seeler are getting it done on a.nightly basis in the NHL. If Thompson was as great as you say, he'd already be playing nightly for Tampa instead of in Syracuse. He has considerable potential,.but he's still just a prospect. Tampa is still looking to win Cups now, and at least Walker(maybe Seeler for this year due to Serg injury, not as clear as to his spot/role.moving ahead) give them a far better chance than Thompson, who at best is rotating as the 3RD next year more than likely. Philly may not even want Thompson because of the depth they have coming on the right side, but Thompson is not worth close to Walker and Seeler by himself.

The '26 1st should absolutely be moved over someone ljke Howard. Howard.has a real chance to contribute with the team in a significant way as early as next year. This isn't a Nolan Foote situation (unless it's for a very big upgrade somewhere). Tampa isn't likely to be drafting a lotto.pick in '26, so.a mid to late 1st might be of help to Tampa, being generous, in '28.

the lightning like to prolong players development as long as possible to ensure they dont mess up the players trajectory. They play guys like chaffee, koepke and merela who if they went on waivers right now no one would claim them because they are 26, 25, and 25 and its now or never for them. Also I wouldnt say that he will be 3rd pair next year, they paired perbix with hedman when he entered the league and I could see them doing the same with thompson.

Howard's lack of tenacity and almost 0 defense makes him not a great fit for the lightning. Sure he might fit nicely on the PP but I have serious concerns about him. He also needs a playmaker on his line or he will seriously struggle. His value tanked last year from his drop of production at Minnesota Duluth and now it is about where it was when we drafted him if not maybe slightly higher from his WJC, I would sell on him now before his value drops again potentially. Im not a fan of trading the 2026 1st at reduced value

If Thompson is in the top.4 next year, tbe RD is in shambles. Walker simply gives them a better chance for the next few years(amd he cam play either side if needed). Thompson is almost assuredly on the table if tbe deal is right. Howard may be more of a scorer, but who cares if his 200 foot game isn't amazing. Tampa could use some more goal scorers in tbe top/middle 6, as they have plenty of defensive specialists. UMD was a horrible fit for Howatd, and it's been night and day for him this year at MSU. The '26 1st is still their most valuable pick asset, so while less than a 1st this year and probabaly next(although some teams may prefer the later 1st if they think Tampa may slip), Tampa should definitely move it for the right piece(s). Standing pat or making weak lesser trades won't help them enough if the goal is a Cup this year, which it still should be.

im not convinced you have actually watched thompson outside of the 11 minutes he played vs boston. Howard being only a point per game in his D+1 year in the NCAA as a scoring winger is not great even if its better than he was in UMD. Everytime I watch him I am more impressed by dorwart and savage than I am him, he just doesnt look like he cares until the puck gets near him. Howard's only really found success with Brindley and Nazar and that would mean he has to play with hagel and cirelli. Thats not necessarily a bad thing but when that line goes up against the other teams top lines and he doesnt make even an attempt to backcheck there will be problems.

Thompson has had one good year in Syracuse, so yeah, I don't value him worth 2 solid 2nd/3rd pair defenders. Given Tampa's RD situation, if he really was a top 4 dman or soon to be, he'd have had more than 1 game with them. He's not top 4 material next year. They knew Howard's game when they drafted him, and he's been great this year. Hos WJC performance was excellent, and he's definitely looked Luke tbe player they thought he was this year. He doesn't ha e to play with any two specific players to be successful in Tampa either, so that's a false narrative. More than likely he's full time year after next, but he has a real chance out of camp next year. He could also be traded if Tampa goes big game hunting.

Thompson has only been in syracuse for 2 years and was getting 3rd pair minutes the first year and was great for his TOI. In an article that was written a week ago about him after he was sent to the AHL allstar game they mentioned that he has 30 points (five goals, 25 assists) through 43 games are just four points off the league lead among defensemen. Those 25 assists also rank him fourth in the league at the position. He also has uncorked 108 shots this season, seventh-most for league blueliners. He only has gone without a shot in three games this season. The guy that posts the most prospect analysis on the website has him as the 10th best RD prospect in the league: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4807521 . There is nothing left I can tell you besides to watch his games. In terms of howard, yes he does have to play with specific players. You won't see him in the bottom 6 because it just wouldnt work, he needs high intensity and skilled guys on his line to get the puck, play defense and make plays for him. He is a finisher that can evade defenseman around the crease and has a nice shot. He could possibly work on the 1st line now that kuch is putting more effort into backchecks lately but would be better suited on the 2nd line with hagel and cirelli.

That's one list. Other lists I've seen don't even have e him as a top 100 prospect. Again, he has potential and I would hope Tampa keeps him, but if he's needed for a true defensive upgrade that will be with the team this year and beyond, he's far from untouchable. His value is probabaly a high 2nd at most.

I dont necessarily disagree that his value now would be a high 2nd but I wouldnt trade him for walker and seeler because of his potential. By the end of the season it will be a late 1st because he will have a longer resume and when he makes his NHL debut it will keep going up. Its not like he was a 1st rounder that has always been given top minutes so his value has constantly changed with his minutes. Thompson is a player whos game will translate well to the NHL level which cant be said for all prospects. I would suggest watching even one game of both thompson and howard so you know what I am talking about

I dont necessarily disagree that his value now would be a high 2nd but I wouldnt trade him for walker and seeler because of his potential. I've seen them play, and you hope Thompson has that value and more moving ahead, as I'm sure.most Yampa fans do. However, that's still not a certainty, so if Brisebois can use either of them to improve the team now, we'll, we've seen how he views futures sometimes if it means improving the team now for a Cup run.
