Worst Use of Cap Space

Tippett's good value and was in consideration. But disagree on Cirelli. Love the player but think he's overpaid for a defensive 3C who is 0.5 ppg. He makes the same as Scheifele who is a 40-goal ppg 1C. Batherson is underrated. Brings a physical component to the lineup and is good for 60+ points and was about a PPG player last season. Toffoli a nice player too but I think will be back to being a 55-point guy after his career season. Not great foot speed and not really physical either.

He was excellent for the Canucks this season despite injury problems and not getting up to full speed. Outstanding defensive instincts, excellent forechecker and has been finishing a lot more the past 2 seasons. He's just my personal preference. Wouldn't expect everyone to agree. I do think he's about $1m overpaid but every roster construction will have that. Make up for it with excellent value on Verhaeghe.

Anybody who's says that Rielly was at fault in any season doesn't know sh1t about hockey, it's obviously he's still one of, if not, the best defensemen in the league but is being overused by the Leafs these past few years bc he can and that the Leafs typically have 1/2 struggling defensemen that require Rielly to take on extra hard minutes... There's a reason why the Oilers and others waited until Rielly's extension to sign their guys at 1.5/3 mill more than Rielly, it's bc he was their target... him taking a discount shows character and heart.
But again, if you're only taking form under consideration, Lilly+Rielly>>>>>Hedman+Mike Rielly</div></div>
Hedman was hurt in the playoffs. This lineup is based on everyone healthy. Hedman is better than Rielly.

Hedman and Rielly earn essentially the same. Much prefer Hedman's penalty killing ability and physical presence, nevermind his Conn Smyth, Norris Trophy and two Stanley Cups. And he's produced offense at a higher rate than Reilly over his career. Wasn't Rielly a whipping boy for Leafs fans this year? You must be the only person who would take Rielly over Hedman, but I respect your passion and persistence for Rielly. I also like Rielly but at the same salary I'm taking Hedman every time, no brainer.

Duclair at $3m is great value. Love his speed. I did tinker with Derek Ryan as 4C and Kuzmenko as well before settling on this roster. Sacrificed a bit of skill in Kuzmenko for Barbashev's playoff pedigree and forecheck.
