I like the idea of Johansen as a Flame, but not for that price and not with an $8 million AAV.

Yeah, I gotta agree Flames would be all over that without question.

Yeah, I get the difference, it's just funny that none of your LWs could play RW apparently until now.
Also, we'll keep Mang. He's got something like 17 points in 17 games since moving into the top 6.

Haha, all we hear whenever Gaudreau to Buffalo comes up is how the Sabres are loaded on LW already, then all of a sudden here is a proposal for a different Flames LW and lo and behold suddenly Olofsson can play his off wing. I know I've suggested that more than once.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DifferentTages</b></div><div>Hmm..
Isn’t that Ottawa Duchene price considered one of the worst overpays of the past decade?
This is also the same Matt Duchene that was traded 15 months later for a pick in the 2nd half of the first round and two C-level prospects?
And the same Sean Monahan that put up 48 points and a -16 this year?
If you are going pick best case for Sean and worst for Casey, you’ve got to expect others to do the same for your guy.</div></div>
I didn't pick "best case" or "worst case" for either player.
I picked the closest comparable there was available and there really aren't any other ones that are even close....and even you scale back the Duchene return because of your hind sight view point, the return would still be miles better than the OPs, and then you take into account Monahan's better production, younger age and better term left on his contract. It is what it is.
Sean Monahan will cost a ton to acquire or teams can just F off because the Flames don't have to trade him....same as Duchene and the Avs., and there is certainly no way Treliving would trade him for the above weak proposal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabresparaavida</b></div><div>My thought process is this: Montour and a 2nd= a mid first roughly. Mittelstadt likely has a value similar to Nylander of last year, they both were high picks with similar post draft success at 21, and he netted Jokiharju who has a high value. I would probably change the 2nd to pick 38 this year if it made a difference.
If Monahan truly does have that much value, I would think there still would be a way to do it without those, though I might still not like it. Calgary may take Reinhart instead and picks/prospects to make it work.</div></div>
I don't see why he wouldn't have that much value. He's younger than Duchene when Duchene was traded, he has better point production and goal production in his career than Duchene did at the time of the trade, and he's got 3 full seasons left on his contract where as Duchene had less than two seasons left on his. (Note: when it all shook out after Turris was flipped, the Duchene return was roughly equivalent to two 1st round pick, three 2nd round picks and a 3rd round pick)
And no, it can't be done without at least one of Cozens or the 8th overall coming back as PART of the return. If the Flames blow it up and trade their 25 year old #1C they will need something back that might replace him over the next few years. The best chance at that is those two assets, not Mittlestadt who is teetering on bust territory.

No.
If you want a comparable for a Monahan trade look at when Colorado traded Duchene to Ottawa.
Hint: Monahan is younger and has better career production than Duchene did when he was traded back then.
You're not getting him AND keeping both Cozens and the 8th overall.

lol it's a Vegas 3rd so probably like 85-90th overall and it's two drafts away.
That's sweet **** all for a 27 year old league average to slightly above average goalie who's gone 59-32-17 the last three years.
The odds you even get an NHL player at that part of the draft are slim to none, and in this case they'd be getting a proven platoon goalie with potential to still blossom into a full time starter.

No way the Flames can trade Monahan unless they find a better #1C somehow or decide to blow it up/retool.
In any case, at least one of the 8th overall or Cozens goes back to Calgary.
Pretty typical to see on here someone propose trading for one of your better players but somehow manage to keep all their prime assets in place.
1. Get Monahan
2. Keep your C of the future in Cozens
3. Also keep 8th overall
No way.

Florida Blockbuster
Barkov, Point, Eichel, Barzal...they are all likely pipe dream additions for the Flames, but if Treliving can manage to get one of them this off season to add to the core it'd be a game changer.
Barkov - FLA is weird and cheap and Barkov only has two years left before he's a UFA and maybe he wants out and/or maybe they won't want to pay him..
Point - TBL have major cap issues this off season, and although there will be other options to clear space, never say never...
Eichel - Already had 33% of his career burnt off watching his team, pick in the top 8 and miss the playoffs...
Barzal - Another team with cap issues and Barzal is eligible to receive offer sheets...

Doesn't seem all that fair to me.</div></div>
The 2020 1st is middle of the pack, not late, and I'd be fine swapping Monahan for Tkachuk if the Sabres wanted a C as part of the return. I just used Tkachuk because he's younger and an RFA instead of a UFA at the expiration of his current contract.
Either way, I don't see anyone giving up more than that. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately for you guys you don't have prospects to make a trade work. So 2 years of gaudreau and a downgrade in a 1c. Is what you pay idk what yo say what would you think an eichel trade looks like??</div></div>
It feels like groundhog day around here sometimes....
Tkachuk - young 1st line player with lots of control left
Pelletier - Flames top forward prospect
2020 1st
2021 1st
That's a fair Eichel trade.
He's a top 5-10 C in the league right now, with potential to get up into the top 5. He is not Connor McDavid or Sydney Crosby from 10 years ago.

That trade doesn't make any sense for the Flames. We're taking on an extra million in cap roughly for an injury prone player with worse production and to top it off Ryan is our best face off guy.
Bjugstadt is younger and bigger which is nice, but it doesn't offset those other concerns.

Tampa can move Stamkos back to C and moving Johnson allows them to sign Cirelli.
Gaudreau - Stamkos - Kucherov
Killorn - Cirelli - Coleman
Tampa is going to have some tough decisions to make this off season, that's for sure.

Yeah, I though about adding a 2nd or even a 1st.
To me Point is worth a little more than Gaudreau, and Johnson is worth about a 2nd. Pelletier is worth more than a 2nd so I figured the value was fairly close. I'd definitely add though if I was the Flames.

Barkov is obviously better than Monahan but he's not "Hanifin plus plus" better than him, going to disagree with that thought.
I don't think they'll trade Barkov, but if they did the package I put up there is huge. Two top 15~ picks in a deep draft and arguably the Flames best two forward prospects who haven't played in the NHL yet. Sure, maybe they want something more NHL ready, but the value is pretty huge.

That's a very good haul, especially with Barkov only having two years left on his deal.

He's not in the line up because he hasn't played a real game in 15 months and it made no sense to throw him into that type of situation when the Flames are already 8 or 9 deep with NHL Dmen because they added two of them at the dead line.
