Sharks just do this tbh, like 70m in cap space next summer taking on some dead cap is fine by me. Heck we could even use him as a backup to see if he rebounds in a market without Edmontons current expectations.
I look at it like when Toronto dumped Marleau to Carolina, they got Seth Jarvis out of it

McDavid lacks "compete level"? He's not a playoff performer?
Sure, bud.</div></div>
I feel this debate the same as prime years of Carey Price.
Price did put amazing numbers year after year, but he was behind such a poor team that the only thing he could do was not giving much goals but losing anyways. He never played with a forward scoring 80pts in his entire career lol. And still, most people would tell he was not in the discussion for best goalie cuz he did not win cup, only two deep playoff runs, etc.
Back to McDavid/Crosby discussion. It's very very hard to rank them, and however it's done there will always be people mad about it. They both have amazing careers. McDavid has higher pure offense skills as Crosby, there is no debate about it. What makes me rank Crosby higher is his entire career team accomplishments (I don't feel champions pens had a way much better team as actual oilers roster). Also, it's been 19 streak season Crosby is a PPG, 15 playoff years on 19, 17 seasons in positive +/-. These numbers may not be impressive when you look at them year by year (less impressive than McDavid's) but it's really amazing consistency. If Connor keeps putting these numbers after 19 years, he'll be above Crosby.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>I think "best" is a subjective term here, best should be who positions you to win the most games. McDavid is not a one man machine, and from hockey pundits to vegas, no one thinks of Edmonton as an empty threat team.
If you think McDavid could retire today and still be considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years, I'd agree on skill, not just yet on compete level.
I believe compete level is proven by playoff performance, I don't think it's crazy to say if McDavid doesn't get a cup appearance for his career he is not considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years.
I'm so confused what you mean by this like what is he not doing in the playoffs he is one of the best playoff producers of all time</div></div>

McDavid being stuck with a **** GM who can't build a team around him doesn't make Crosby the better player.

Yeah I mean I don't think anyone is saying anything bad about Crosby he's for sure #2 here but McDavid is one of the best playoff performers of all time literally Gretzky and Lemieux stats in the modern era its insane not his fault he's had so many horrible GMs and teams. He has nearly x2 the regular season awards at 27 lead the league in playoff points in 2022 without playing in the final and last year had 20 points in the first 2 rounds Eichel lead the playoffs with 26 just insane to say McDavid needs to do more

Don't think the EDM trade makes sense from EDM's POV, we need our cheaper young players to fill in roles.
Would imagine we'd pass and just buy out Campbell.

It was his first playoffs last year and was his first full season last year? So I may be misunderstanding your point or you just don't fully know what you're talking about. Also, if he is a playoff performer isn't it in the best interest of the Leaf's to keep him so they are able to make it out the first round again? Thanks.

Yeah but if he was good enough to be NHL ready why wouldn't we just play him over Ceci, Kulak or Desharnais right now? Why is Broberg being called up instead of him? I think Oilers Nation is taking a pretty optimistic approach to how good he is, he's a fine bottom pairing guy but he's not top-4 material or he would be in the league already.

Ottawa Senators signed Joshua Norris (8 Years / $7,950,000 AAV)
Riding a shooting high, bit worried about this one. Norris basically has 3C stats with a crazy shot impact. If that regresses this will look bad quickly. Even with a good shot, 7m was too much for a player like that in Pacioretty for Vegas to hold onto. I wouldn't have paid more than 6 or so million for Norris. Better to qualify as RFA and see him a) regress and buy lower, or b) him sustain a high shooting percentage to prove that he's an outlier.

The Senators are pegging his developed to Suzuki's.
Personally, I'm less certain about Norris than Suzuki/Thomas/Hughes are in terms of be viable for this cap hit. But we'll see.

In their current cap situation, the Kings need NHL-qualified youngsters on minimal contracts, which Kaliyev's new deal will be. (I'd be shocked if he gets more than $1.25 million AAV.) Trading him for picks is non-progressive.

Here's the state of Edmonton trading for d-man right now,
Just ask yourself this question "Is this d-man a clear upgrade over Cody Ceci.", if he is then we will gladly hear you out! If not then we have no interest.
Savard is not a clear upgrade, Habs fans can argue he's minimally better but especially with his injury concerns Edmonton has no interest

Canucks decline. No interest in Matheson, we already have two players who fill the same role but are better and younger in Hughes and Hronek. Matheson produces well because he gets top ice time and PP time in Montreal, in Vancouver he'd be 2nd/3rd pair with zero special teams time, which would cause him to fall off massively and not produce nearly as much. There's also the history with Pettersson, so a pretty easy no to Matheson ever wearing a Canucks jersey just based off of that, let alone the fact that he isn't a fit for this team in the slightest.

That's not a late 1st. Washington barely made the playoffs and even if they do manage to beat the Rangers they have to make the conference finals for that 1st to be any later than 17th OA. Flames absolutely accept this

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>17th is a late first you are on the 2nd half of the 1st round.
On top of it, it's a weak draft.</div></div>
That is a pretty ignorant take. Being the 1st pick in the 2nd half of the 1st round is not late. It is smack dab in the middle of the round. On to of that this draft class is just as strong as most other years until around pick 25, that's when the falloff begins. If you are getting someone like Brandsegg-Nygard or Jiricek at #17 that's on par with recent 17th OA's like Kemell, Bolduc, Reichel, and Krebs.
