Each teams mvp next year
Wow. I could think of a good half dozen guys or more that would have a fair shot at being the Blues MVP, but Krug wouldn't be on that list. I mean, I guess it's conceivable, but this is a deep cut pick. Kudos for originality.

Both teams decline, both players are more of use to their respective teams than the other would be.

Horvat to Washington 3 way trade
Why are we trading Bo? There is no benefit in trading our captain who wants to win with this team; the only way it makes sense is if we get an overpayment in a trade for him

Vancouver Canucks signed J.T. Miller (7 Years / $8,000,000 AAV)
Miller was far and away the best player on the team last year, and while he can get visibly frustrated at times, he plays with massive amount of heart. It's always risky signing an older player to a long deal like this, but I think he can deliver, I voted yes

He doesn't really need to tho. As long as he's near at a PPG the contract is perfectly fine

Standing predictions
Central going to be a dog fight, I would say colorado first and chicago/Arizona last and second last, the rest no certainty’s. Pacific Edmonton 1st and sj last, la cgy van going to be a jumbled mess with Anaheim trailing them. 4 prominent east teams could be falling off a cliff with the wrong injury or age showing year, would be my bold prediction Fla, tb, pit, wash. Probably not all 4, but a little bold. Buffalo or ottawa sneaks into a playoff spot and Toronto finishes first. Carolina isles rangers, and one in one out for colombus and devils. Little shake up come playoff time.

MacKinnon as highest paid player in the league
I always figured he would just match the 12.5m. 8 years that a cool 100m contract. Nate seems like a simple guy like that.
Dont you think EJ would come back every year for 1m until he wnats to stop playing? Feels like he will sign for min to keep playing wtih this group
I hate the Toews trade for a 2C,...if you are trading Toews and only getting a 2C who is worth 5m aav, avs massively lost the trade

Or… VAN would probably take those two 1st’s and send Miller right now at 50% retained. He’d fill a position of need and they’d have him for the entire year.

Kane at deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CEO</b></div><div>Wait how did you calculate that?</div></div>
If theres 186 days in the season (146 before TDL, 40 after TDL - these values were found from the trade machine tab in capfriendly - I'm not sure if they are completely accurate with the 22-23 schedule but if not then it's a good ballpark estimate), then you can average the daily cap hits over each day and set it equal to the 82.5M cap
If you have 3M in cap space that means you have a 79.5M cap hit for 146 days
146/186*79.5M+40/186*(After TDL cap hit)=82.5M
Then rearrange to get:
After TDL cap hit = 93.45M
Which is 13.95M higher than the pre-TDL cap hit of 79.5M
This is all assuming no LTIR is used and they have the same cap hit every day before the TDL and the same cap hit every day after the TDL

Thread:
Kane at deadline
if the Avs had 3M in cap space accrued from the start of the season to the deadline they could add almost 14M in AAV at the deadline
I dont think Kane is a good fit though. Rantanen already has the top line RW and the top PP right half wall position. Kane would be playing in a lesser role than normal (would get less points) and would be a big downgrade defensively. If they move out a big package of assets like that they should be going after a high end 2 way center

Chicago Blackhawks signed Kevin Korchinski (3 Years / $1,918,333 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CEO</b></div><div>I mean there's a chance he genuinely doesn't know. Not knowing basic hockey things is common among users of this site. Wonder if its Wierd considering its a hockey site</div></div>
Good point. It’s good to remember that not everybody knows everything you do. Some of us watch our home team and don’t really know the players on other teams beyond what their stats show. Some of us live in non-traditional hockey markets where we don’t get much analysis from the local media, so we come to places like this site for that. I’ve been crazy about hockey, especially at the NHL level, for a long time, but I hate it when people post analytics without explaining the point they’re trying to make with them. I wouldn’t over-explain everything, but I don’t think it hurts to include some additional information even if most of the people on this site already know it.
The question Senators fans should be asking about DeBrincat is not whether he’s good but whether he’ll stick around. He has one year left on his current contract. Then Ottawa will need to offer him a one-year, $9M contract to retain his rights if they don’t sign him to an extension first. If he accepts that offer, then I believe he can become an unrestricted free agent the following summer, or he could turn it down and go to arbitration with a similar result, so Ottawa is only guaranteed two years of his services, and if he wants to go somewhere else after that, there’s nothing they can do to stop him. Chicago would have been in the same situation if they had kept him. Their rebuild horizon is more than two years, which is why they were willing to give up a young 2-time 40 goal scorer who seems like an ideal player to build around. The trade was not as lopsided as it appears.
