Flyers rebuild - a full tear down
I must be missing something with Detroit. While they haven't been a team rumored for Provorov, i thought it might be a good fit. (I've read LA, St Louis and Winnipeg as possible teams over the last 6-12 months)
Here was my logic:
1. Provorov slots in perfectly behind Seider as the #2 guy in Detroit. That could be a hell of a top pair for a long time.
2. Detroit only has 5 defensemen under contract for next season at the moment.
3. Detroit can make this deal without giving up any of their own draft picks.
4. The Flyers were recently rumored to be interested in some young players that might be "reclamation" project. Zadina seems like he fits that description.
What am I missing about the Redwings that there isn't room for Provorov?

You arent getting him for a rental. plain and simple</div></div>
Fair enough. I do think the Flyers will get a similar package though. A good young player, a late first and a conditional pick that's no worse than a 3rd or something along those lines. Maybe the Avs/Newhook aren't the best match if they consider him untouchable.

Time will tell. What I can tell you is that you're not getting a rental as good as Giroux without giving up a significant return. But his value will depend on if he's willing to waive his NMC and if so, how many teams will be on his list? Because if he's available i'd imagine every contender that can fit in half of his cap hit will be making the phone call to the Flyers.
At least years deadline guys like Nick Foligno and David Savard got first round picks. Giroux's return as a rental will be significant if multiple teams can bid.

Chuck hits some home runs
It is but from the Flyers perspective, even if it doesn’t work out, you save 750K plus 1 year on a contract. I’m certainly not a “Jake must go” guy, but it sounds like both sides want to work toward that. Most Flyers fans would like to see Jake just dropped for nothing, but that’s a careful what you wish for scenario. Voracek isn’t the perfect player, but his point production is valuable and won’t replace itself.

Hoffman
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DH28Hockey</b></div><div>1) Florida is looking to be as competitive as possible this year, they’re not looking to trade away one of their top forwards
2) Thats a hefty underpayment
3) if he were on the team, he would be 1st/2nd line, dude is an absolute sniper</div></div>
The Panthers have roughly $20m in cap space and if they land both Panarin and Bob that's going to cost them about $17m of that $20m in space and they'd still need to get 4 more forwards and 2 more D under contract. Hoffman only has 1 year remaining and if they feel they can't get him signed then he's a likely choice to move. I also realize value for value, he's better than Rubstov and Hagg, but values change when a team is desperate to create cap space. So if FL does trade him for that reason their fans shouldn't expect to be overly thrilled with the return.
As far as placing in the lineup, Any of those top 3 RW would be interchangable IMO.

I would have no problem trading Ghost for Ehlers. I'm not including a 1st with Ghost though. You'd also need to replace Ghost on D then too which would get tricky with the cap.

How the Sharks Keep Pavelski Meier and Labanc
So they're going to do this by forfeiting every game because they're over the salary cap?
And $3.8m for Meier is laughable. He might get double that in an offer sheet if he's not signed by July 1.

Miller and Kapanen trades looking for feedback
You're not getting Kapanen for that. His value is at least a 2nd round pick. You can take your chances and offer sheet him and hope the Leafs can't match or maybe offer the Leafs a 2nd plus something else to skip the OS process all together.

Not really comparable. Karlsson would have been UFA and is one of the best players in hockey when healthy. Trouba is an RFA and doesn't have that same pedigree. If he wants $8m + I think he's going to have to sign a 1 year deal, have a great year, then test the UFA market next July. He very well may do that, but if that's the plan I wouldn't make the trade for him.

Yeah I'm not sure what the Sharks plans are, but with keeping Karlsson they put themselves int he same cap hell that Tampa and Toronto are in. I never really thought Pavelski would leave, but now i'm not sure. I don't know how they pay Meier and then bring back Pavelski around $7m.

They could. But the Flyers would have to want that. If the Flyers are thinking about trying to sign Marner or Kapanen to an offer sheet then I doubt they'd be willing to help out the Leafs cap situation. Every team knows the Leafs cap situation is ugly and I can't see any team doing them any favors. The Leafs will have to pay big time to get the cap relief they need to keep their best players.

I agree. Under normal circumstances there's no chance the Leafs would do Kadri for Laughton and a 3rd, but the Leafs aren't in normal circumstances right now. If they can't move Marleau and Zaitsev over draft weekend then they're going to get desperate before July 1 and make a move Leafs fans will hate so they can get Marner locked up before he can sign an offer sheet.

Well i know one thing, if at 12pm est on July 1 the Leafs still haven't been able to trade Marleau or Zaitsev or sign Marner or Kapapen, I'd be on the phone with both of their agents seeing if either was ready to sign an offer sheet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sk540</b></div><div>And thats very true, I actually find it hard to believe they will be able to move them, but u know there will be one team out there below the floor and if the Leafs offer a good draft pick or prospect to entice them, they just may.
However, offer sheets don't happen, and until they start happening with regularity, I can't depend on them. Sure I would, you would, a bunch of people would, but all that matters is if Fletcher would. And GM's don't do it. So if they get his rights, boom, we sign him.
Another point, don't you think other teams out there, if all the sudden offer sheet start being thrown around, someone may offer more than 4? Im just saying, if you identify a guy you want, go get him.
It may be an overpay, but not a massive one. Maybe switch sandstrom for another propsect? Just make it hagg and a first? Hagg and a third? what would you think would be fair?</div></div>
I do think we see at least one off sheet this summer. Is the the Flyers for Kapanen? Or that Flyers at all? Who knows, but with so many really good RFA's and so many teams with a lot of cap space, I think it happens. Maybe someone would step up and offer Kapanen $5m, but I also think if the Flyers really wanted him and offered him $4m on July 1 he'd sign it. He grew up in the area.

As the Flyers roster stands right now, no, trading Ghost for a late first round pick wouldn't make sense. In the scenario above where they somehow load up and need the cap relief, yes i'd take a late 1st.
Right now he's their best asset to trade as far as a roster player goes, so if he's traded it needs to be for current roster help to fill a current need.

And if we go that route, its not 100% Toronto doesn't match, they are looking to get rid of players like Marleau, Kadri, Zaitsev, and are letting other UFA's walk. If they pull off those moves, they could have room for those 2. If you want to guarantee yourself a talent like Kapanen, then you have to give up something. Trading Hagg also frees up 1.5 mil on cap space and lets be honest, if our dmen take that next step, we may lose him for nothing either. We don't need Sandstrom with Hart and Ustimenko and Tomek in the system, and yeah maybe a first is too much. But that first guarantees you Kapanen.</div></div>
I get that, but even if you're trading for him instead of gambling on an offersheet, I think that's way too much. The Leafs have huge cap problems. I know they want to trade Marleau and Zaitsev which will help them, but that doesn't mean they'll be able to trade those guys. They very well could be stuck with them. I don't see many teams bending over backwards to help the Leafs unless they're getting the better end of the deal themselves.

That's a massive over payment for Kapanen. Why give up that much when you could sign him to a $4m offer sheet and the compensation is just one 2nd round pick? The Leafs would struggle to match at $4m.

I completely agree, but my thinking there was Winnipeg may want a prospect that's much closer to being NHL ready. I don't want to trade Frost either. Unfortunately though if the Flyers make big moves this summer they're going to trade a piece or 2 that no one wants to trade.
