Pretty sure BOS would be adding the picks there not DET. Hall doesn't have that much value to offset the dump Reilly is going to cost and Zadina does have some change of scenery / bounce-back value esp with low cap hit.

I do believe that a Chiarot/Petry would actually work esp in the playoffs. Their styles match well together and they wouldn't try to skate too much thus getting them out of position as they would play more zone based coverage. We need a good RHD for 1/2 years to get us through the last 2/3 years of the rebuild that can bring solid vet presence and some more leadership for the plethora of prospects we are trying to develop, especially on the D side. Maata would need to be shipped out instead as the left side is now a wasted log jam with multiple years tied up and Simon needs to be playing.

Yzerman is drafting guys who can skate for a reason.</div></div>
Completely agree and that is why I think Chiarot was put in such bad light. He was a terrible match for Seider. Seider needs to play at pace not that slow and rugged old style that Chiarot excels at. I feel like Chiarot is due for a bounce-back year, but the roster just doesn't make sense with him and Maata.

It seems like the Preds want to move RyJo to let the younger Cs in their system develop and Fabbri can provide some scoring punch on the wing with veteran presence for a decent cap him (half of RyJo). And if Fabbri can't get on the ice at least they have $8M free now.

RyJo is a much needed 2C that is solid on draws, plays big, allows Copp to be offensive and his $8M cap doesn't hurt us while
Overall I agree about Granlund, but lots of PITT fan despise the Granlund move. I just don't think he fits their system, but under a coaching change it might be better for them. I feel them getting ride of the $11.25M in cap while only taking on Chairot who is more than serviceable and gets a bad rep would be a better Dman in the PITT system that plays more similar to MTL or WPG where he had success.

Another Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I think of we bring in Johansen we need to move a bit of cap out. Although it doesn't seem like it now but we could have issues next year with Raymond, Seider, Berggren and Rasmussen extensions. Also it would make it tough to pursue a higher end free agent like Debrincat. I also totally expect some players to be brought in this free agency as well which will likely be more than one year deals.</div></div>
I think signing free agents this summer to multiple years would be a mistake. Trading for assets that are within the window make more sense even with higher priced assets. Lets say we sign a RHD or Killorn to 2-5 year deals, those players are not getting to the playoffs, but a RyJo, Debrincat, Guentzel, Rakell, Boeser, etc will help us get there with some player development. We have big holes at RW or RH LW, 2C/RH C, RHD, a true #1 goalie or 1B and players with grit/size. We are not 1 year away yet thus we should be taking on cap to get assets while acquiring talent with those assets. Why not take on Myers or why didn't we take on Zaitsev and we'd have picks 41-44 in this draft? Imagine another 2nd round pick when we could use a serviceable RHD for only 1 year while this years cap will not be an issue at all.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I first went with 3.5M but wasn't sure so just went to 4.5M.
RyJo is a legit 2C. Plays a two way game. Wins alot of faceoffs. Has the skills but just doesn't put up the points. He would just be a stop gap. I feel that the asking price wouldn't be ridiculous if they were alright with moving him given his cap hit. Nashville I doubt would want to retain on two years at something like 2M and I wouldn't want to pay for it. The pieces moved I feel are expendable, I know some people like Veleno but I can live without him. Also I think trying to acquire a 2C via trade would be very costly and I'm so for waiting for Kasper, or in this instance, Yager to be ready to take it. I would be very happy with Moore as well in the draft. If we aren't in the playoffs when his contract expires, I feel like we could get a decent return with retention on him, might not be as much as well paid but still recoup something.</div></div>
I feel RyJo would be a nice fit and need with DET. Also, if Copp can be put on LW line 2 to expand his offensive side which would be a big help. Rolling Copp at 2C would be another mistake next year as he cannot produce at that spot. We need a 2C to score 50-60 pts with 20ish goals and I don't see Copp ever doing that unless he is moved to the Wing.

Signing Sam Steel for $1.5M would be a mistake.
Hartman stays 1C with Ek at 2C and Rossi at 3C with Freddy G backup C on line 3 to help his transition.
Foligno's $3.1M needs to be flipped for some better asset mgmt (skill for line 3, defensive add or plug and play prospect).

Team above probably doesn't even make playoffs.
Raz should have that LW1 locked down with an extension like that and his size is needed on that line. I feel there is missing a 2C as Copp would be better off on the Wing and hoping for a prospect at RW3 (Masur/other) as Perron should be moved on by then. Basically a UFA prize or trading assets to get someone that really is a top 6. A third line of Soderbloom - Veleno - Berggren would be ideal as long as Sods and Veleno keep developing. 4th line is some prospects and trusted vets. Fabbri needs to be gone.
This type of team with another Dman add and significantly better goaltending will be a playoff team.

Totally agree and I love Foligno, but his cap hit and how much he's injured will not help this team going into next year where the cap is uber important. Duhaime takes Foligno's spot in the lineup on a 3rd line at ~$2M less.
Also, Sunny is not signing for more than Johansson while playing on the 4th line. I feel both will be resigned though as Johansson is a must at this point since it seems he wants to be here and would take little less.

Offseason Pt 2
I think RyJo as 2C and moving Copp to the wing is a solid move with a skilled winger rounding out and legitimizing the 2nd line. Yes, DET could eat all of his $8M in cap for 2 more seasons, but Mo and Ray's extensions will kick in '25 so getting at least $1M retained while hoping the cap raises $2-3M by then would be huge for another winger or RHD to plug into top 6/9. RyJo being RH is also a plugging a missing piece in DET for nearly 2 decades.
I like it as follows:
To DET - RyJo ($1M retained), Fabbro
To NSH - '23 2nd (worst one of the VAN, STL, DET) + COND '24 3rd (if DET makes playoffs and RyJO plays in 50% games it upgrades to a '24 2nd)

Which team wins the trade
As said by most -- No way the Cat brings back what was given up to get him and it surely wouldn't be a top 10 pick. OTT has no bottom 6 guys roster players signed next year except Mathieu Joseph and they wouldn't be able to sign the Cat at his new AAV as Norris comes off IR without sacrificing monies to plug holes on their back end. You have to believe the leverage is the team acquiring not OTT.
Flip side, acquiring teams cannot give up top prospects that are ready to step in and play in the NHL right away to help offset when trading and extending these big 8yr x $8-9M players in trades -- see Horvat or Meier deals. Realistically, I could see something similar to what was done in the Fiala trade last summer when MIN was in a similar situation (cost was 19th OA pick and solid prospect of Faber).
DET gives up '23 1st (NYI) ~18th OA now, Zadina or Kubalik and a LHD prospect (Johansson, McIssac, Sebrando)

Sold On S and J Not K
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gopherit</b></div><div>I agree that Johansson and Sundqvist have looked great.
I'd do the Johansson deal.
However, no way am I spending that much money & term on Sundqvist. If he doesn't resign for cheap, I'd let him walk. I'd rather give more playing time to Walker, Beckman, and other young players.
I'd also prioritize resigning FreddyG since he's looked great the past two seasons.
I don't get this site's obsession with trading Goligoski. He's killed it analytically the past two seasons and has shown little-to-no interest in playing elsewhere; rather the opposite, he'd rather retire with his hometown team.
I'd keep Hunt since he's shown more promise than ROR imo.
It's unlikely we sign Livingstone as he's a VAN native. LaCombe would be nice but I doubt he doesn't sign with the team that drafted him given they will provide him with more opportunity / playing time. Plus, the Wild are loaded with D prospects so he'd have to compete with ROR, Hunt, & Lambos for the #6 spot.</div></div>
Totally agree. Moving Merril makes more sense as he's just too slow and coughs the puck up way too much. I'm not a fan of all the hate towards him and you can see he's much better and comfortable playing top 4 or 6. I think the sites obsession is the fact he makes $2M basically being the 7th D and the cap space is needed.
Freddy G has to be resigned. His play has warrantied it, but also the injuries this year goes to show his depth has been so valuable. Freddy G signing > Sunny, Reaves, Klingberg (unless its for $2M), Foligno (can be traded).

They really should keep him and not resign Dumba, it would probably make alot more sense financially.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>trentbarney</b></div><div>It is crowded but he would be a good bottom 6 for a time with no grit. Good enough defensively so you get grit with out having a 4th line plug. if the deal was right I would take him... that deal however is not it. Yzerman can always move a winger for more draft stock and I am just sick of seeing the wings bullied.</div></div>
Addison will not return a 1st. Even if you offer sheet him at 3x3 or 4x4 it only costs a 2nd and MIN can't really afford that unless they open another hole on their roster, which would be stupid. Foligno is not getting much in return as he likely costs a 3rd - 5th and removing his $3.1M costs to go toward more scoring with Duhaime or Sunny resigning at a lower costs.
Addison would be a nice and much needed puck moving RHD in DET to pair with some of the LHD prospects coming up or pair with a DEF 1st D like Maata or Chariot. I don't see this package being anthing more than a 2nd and 4th no pick from DET, but Foligno fits a playoff team looking for grit much better.
