Ottawa would win, but any rational GM in Detroit's situation would not do this.

Yeah if you turn around and try to sell Debrincat now you aren't going to get what you paid back for him.

Detroit, they are getting a 40 goal scorer in his prime, OTT is getting a bunch of maybes. when OTT trades Cat i wont expect them to get a 20-30 goals scorer back, they will have to use what they get for Cat to go after a cheaper 2nd line Winger

Even if Ottawa got this return its still a lateral move. If we're trading DeBrincat we'll want players and near NHL ready prospects, not more draft picks.

What do you mean Ottawa can't get a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd for a player with an expiring contract that's set to increase by like 3 million?

"Buncha maybes" man if I was Ottawa and I somehow managed to get this for a player that is likely entering FA I'd be thrilled.

Obviously the trading of a top 10 pick would come with Cat wanting to stay and sign in DET

Don't think the Wings are at all interested in what the Sens paid to acquire DeBrincat and don't want to make that comparison.
DeBrincat probably wants UFA money, so there is no reason why the Wings can't use that money to sign a UFA, and keep the picks.

Substitute our first rounder with the Islanders first rounder that we own and it's a deal.

No it ain't. 9 million AAV (which is what he probably will want), a mid first, an early 2nd, and an early 3rd ain't worth a player who has been mediocre (or even subpar) at 5v5.

Yeah ok but we lose a good 1st round pick and 2nd round pick for a player that will probably enter free agency.

Detroit wins if DeBrincat signs long term for less than Larkin. Ottawa wins if the first round pick can be flipped to acquire Carter Hart from Phil.

Debrincat would fill a big need for Detroit- Right handed sniper. But personally I wouldn't trade 1sts or good prospects away this early.

Can you guys even give Debrincat more than a one year contract? Sanderson needs a new contract, number 1 goalie?

A 40 goals scorer when he plays with Partick Kane unsure What do you think if we added Kubalik in the trade? Cheap Cap hit and he could play on that 2nd line. Including Kukalik in the trade would obviously lessen the value that Ottawa is getting back.

As said by most -- No way the Cat brings back what was given up to get him and it surely wouldn't be a top 10 pick. OTT has no bottom 6 guys roster players signed next year except Mathieu Joseph and they wouldn't be able to sign the Cat at his new AAV as Norris comes off IR without sacrificing monies to plug holes on their back end. You have to believe the leverage is the team acquiring not OTT.

Flip side, acquiring teams cannot give up top prospects that are ready to step in and play in the NHL right away to help offset when trading and extending these big 8yr x $8-9M players in trades -- see Horvat or Meier deals. Realistically, I could see something similar to what was done in the Fiala trade last summer when MIN was in a similar situation (cost was 19th OA pick and solid prospect of Faber).

DET gives up '23 1st (NYI) ~18th OA now, Zadina or Kubalik and a LHD prospect (Johansson, McIssac, Sebrando)

Honestly ...

I'd rather just extend DeBrincat at 9 million x 8.

Once we find a head coach that DeBrincat can play for, he'll go back to scoring 40 goals anyway.

Best for both parties. Red Wings get an up and coming prospect, and Sens take a small risk and bet he bounces back into form.
