What about shipping Rossi and Addison to Detroit for NYI '23 1st (17th OA) and a '24 2nd? Or if the ask really is for a '23 pick then it would need to be DET 3rd. I do feel Rossi's value is more in the 20-25 range and Addison in the 45-65 range so maybe a 17th overall and a 73rd overall could get it done.

CHI adds in Frank Nazar into that and MAYBE a convo could get started, but a top 4 pick for (2) 1st in the 20+ range + 35 this year while offloading the cap hit of Vlasic who SJ can easily eat or buy-out.
It more looks like this:
- Nazar, '23 1st (TBL), '23 2nd, '24 1st (CHI)
- Vlasic, '23 4th overall, '24 3rd
It has to be enticing enough for both teams.

Unless Korchinski is in the deal there is no deal -- I just don't see it any other way esp when the TBL is ~20th. If that pick was top 10 then yes, maybe, but the other first would need to be '24 not '25 and it would be a CHI pick not a TBL or TOR pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>Absolutely disagree on #4
As for #5... who are you getting to replace Petry? It's a common trope on this board to say "they can just go find X." If it were that easy every team would have what they need. Cap savings give them the room to replace, but the players need to be available. Who do you think is so easily available to replace them?</div></div>
Take a quick look at this UFA class and all these players will make less than Petry at $6.25 at 35/36 years old. Dumba, Severson, Klingberg (enticing for a PP specialist and 3rd pair on the cheap), Ghost. Even if finding another good D that eats top 4 minutes and will be paid way less than $6 - Soucy, Gavrikov, Clifton, Holl. Think this way, bring one of these guys on and you ride yourself of Petry/Rutta then you basically have the money to re-sign Zucker or another top 6 scoring winger while having enough cap left to get a starting goalie and round out some FWD depth. This is all while giving up no assets.
If willing to give up assets there are younger players looking for a change of scenery -- Addison (will run that PP), Lassi Thomson, Durzi/Roy/Walker (one of them has to go) from LA, could get Barrie for peanuts, Whitecloud or Hague from Vegas, Demelo or Pionk from WPG as they plan on moving someone.... the list can go on.

Moving the 1st
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>We disagree on a many things here...
1) I don't believe Ty Smith is an NHL player.
2) I didn't say the Petry contract itself is good, but I still believe he's a good player.
3) Moving Petry creates a hole because now we have no other dman capable of manning the PP or real offensive production if Petry is gone.
Rutta doesn't have negative value. I'm not saying he's got crazy value, but a third is perfectly fair for two years of Rutta.</div></div>
I hear your viewpoint and yes we disagree.
1) Rutta can be a minute munching 3rd pair D, but that can also be done for $1M veteran on a minimum year deal
2) Ty Smith is young enough to bounce-back and is capable of running the PP as you know he is very offensive. I also think he should be moved for another D as he doesn't fit the Pens style well.
3) Letang and the 1st unit basically play the whole 2 mins anyway
4) No NHL should or probably would pay a 3rd for Ruuta straight up... maybe a failed prospect or change of scenery vet that has cap in/out
5) Cap savings from Petry or Rutta can find you a younger D that can run the PP and most likely makes more money with longer term upside. It is only smart to move them as these 2 are not getting you the cup or moving you that much closer to it vs plugging bigger holes on your roster (consistent OFF depth / goalie).

Second, the #17, while only a few spots back doesn't have the same value and then we have a new hole to fill on D.</div></div>
How does it create a hole on D when you have 5 RHD signed thru next year with 1 of them playing the off side D and Ty Smith ready to jump in on the left side? If anything, RHD is the position you can give someone up, save much needed cap for other moves and speed on without worrying about it. The decision will just have to be Ruuta (negative player - negative value) or Petry (good player, but not worth his contract) - negative value). Moving down those three spots is the Wings picking up that negative value just like <a href="/users/buffbry" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@buffbry</a> is saying.
Look I hear your argument on Petry, I actually like him, but similar to Chairot the contract is not good.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Personally I would like to sign Schenn to partner with Edvinsson.
Copp wasn't a bad signing, he had core muscle surgery and that's always tough to come back from. Also he missed all of training camp and preseason so he was just thrown right into it. But he is not a 2C in this league, 3C or 2LW would be best bet.</div></div>
Yes, that was kind of what I was implying, Copp has to be LW2 or 3C and if 3C it is a bad use of cap thus bad signing as he has never shown in his career that he can be a 2C. Now IF he moves to LW2 and puts up 50-65 points I will very happy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I wouldn't mind the Pittsburgh trade, just seems like alot. The only way I see Carter waiving is if they threaten to buy him out in which case they don't save cap space but open up a roster spot and actually face $1M in salary. For Carter, instead of getting $3M this year he will get $1M this year and $1M next year. So he might have incentive to waive host for the financial aspect of the situation, if they decide to go that route. It would be kind of a sleezy move but never know with the new management. I'm on the side of being okay adding Granlund at a discounted rate. Play him for the season and hope he plays better than he did with Pittsburgh, retain a bit more and likely get a second at the deadline. Rutta I'm really meh on, would rather someone better than him. I would like that pick that's for sure.
For the Nashville trade, take out the picks. Trust me I'm an expert on that trade. I know you want to send a bit of extra value but it's not worth it.
I would do the Toronto trade in a heart beati line Murray but can't be healthy. Would likely need to find a goalie that can clear waivers.
Honestly not that much of a fan of Addison and if you are adding Thomson he doesn't seem like he's needed as much. Foligno for a third is fine, be he would be a great add.
Honestly I wouldn't do this Debrincat trade. You just acquired a bunch of junk to move to the draft, make that pick. That player is likely a high end pick. If Debrincat really wants to be here than he will sign as a free agent or maybe trade the Boston first next year. Might have to add a bit more value though.
I wouldn't have Granlund as a centre, I would move Copp there and have one of those guys move up a line.
I agree with starting the kids in the AHL but getting them done time after the deadline or with injuries.</div></div>
I'd be fine with moving Bergy up to line 2 and Copp be 3C with Granlund as LW3. Copp was just a bad signing, he didn't show he was capable of handling 2C really ever in his career.
Thomson is more insurance in the RHD pipeline as Ruuta is on 2 years and could be rotated out. Myers only has 1 year left on his deal and I would take him as well, but his cap wouldn't work in this AGM cuz it's $6M.

Losing Debrincat is better than rolling with the terrible goalies you have in your ACGMs, but to each his own. Your top 6 still can be solid with losing the Cat.

Red Wings fans need to get over the Kenny Holland archaic way of burying kids in the AHL. Rosters shouldn't be built based on birth certificates.</div></div>
Sorry, but in the cap world, cap hits matter and aligning large cap hits with ELC is important. I'm not saying to be Kenny and hold him in the AHL until he is 23/24/25, we're talking about holding him 1 year until he's 21/22.
Regardless, I get your point that if they are an NHL caliber player we should see them. Makes sense.

Look again, it will cost $1,833,333 for 3 more years after the smaller hit in 23-24 of $833,333. It makes more sense to retain $1.5M for 2 years. Buyouts are always double the length of remaining contract length.

I like your creativity but there has to be a balance between stacking assets and competing for a playoff spot. Plus we need cap space down the road to at least give bridge deals to Seider and Raymond.</div></div>
We are def not making the playoffs next year unless our team is as good as this team. There is over $30M in free space next year with this team, I think we will be okay. Kasper is no better than Granlund next year and doesn't deserve to start in the NHL, let him be in GR for a full year with his ELC aligning with extensions of Mo and Ray. Yes, Granlund has a terrible end with Pitt, but he is still a 40-50 pt guy under contract for 2 more years at $3.5M.... not sure we could find someone similar that can play C in many situations -- Pitt was a terrible fit.
I do think 24-25 is the last rebuild year as that should be a good mix of vets, developed players and lots of ELCs.

I hear you, but Carter and Granlund can be flipped at the deadline for playoff hungry teams. They both can play C and provide depth offense. I could live with it next year as it gives us assets to do other things instead of give up our current assets for those things and having nothing left. That extra 2nd and 4th basically get us Addison and Foligno so in theory it is totally worth it for a year to plug a huge hole at 3C, depth on the 4th line and much needed RD while we can take on cap.

I really like all the move here except signing Killorn (3 years) when we have Copp (4 years) that would be best to slide to 2LW and let Bergy be 3LW and have Perron move to 2RW and Zadina/Foligno to 3RW. Hoping that we can develop Sods, Kasper, Mazur and whomever we draft in 1st this year on the front end will be key in the next 2/3 years. Now would I rather have Killorn than Copp, yes, but that is not an option.
Need to remember that Raz, Ray and Mo next deals will have probably close to $14-16M in additional cap in 24-25.

I think the Wings would be smart to take that Soup deal as long as they could plug some cap into it. Cossa will not be NHL ready for 3/4 years and is signed for 2 more years. Similar to cap dumps of Bailey, Myers or Reilly. Not doing the Zaitsev deal when we needed a RHD is kind of dumb -- we'd have 4 straight picks (41-44) in this years 2nd round.
Detroit wouldn't sign Severson for 6x6 as he will be 34 at the end, not sure he fits their timeline as well as trading for a younger Dman or waiting 2/3 years and signing a better Dman in UFA.
