Oops - Sorry. I put him in Center and I should have changed that. Will see if I can edit.

Rumors of Gaudreau andor Monahan Trade
Just reposting what I put at the top for consideration: There are starting to be rumors that Calgary might trade Johnny Gaudreau or Sean Monahan. I just wanted to post what I would think it would take for either - Tuch, a 1st and two 2nds. It could be two 1st picks in my mind instead of two 2nds. Plus, depending on where they are in the daily cap hit, they may need to move another player, and I think they will move on from Eakin for a 4th or 5th. He's a UFA after this year. I picked Pittsburgh because they always seem to be in the need for another 3rd-4th line defensive center.

Alternate reality - no 2018 SCF no crazy regular season run
Also, if that amazing first year run doesn't happen, I'm not sure Fleury is still on the team. They may have flipped him to a playoff team that year for a high first round pick. I bet we wouldn't have had the rivalry with San Jose so maybe he even goes there.

Fair Buffalo trade
I get that Risto has been a better defenseman than his team's results over the last few years. He would likely help. But I only like this deal at the deadline - not now. And I'm not sure you want to hurt the 3rd line offense that much but taking Tuch off that line.

Deadline Deal

If they didn’t move Eakin to have the money for Gusev, then they are rolling with him for the year. Especially if they are leading the West at the TDL</div></div>
I think they would do it if Glass is having a good season and for a major upgrade in a winger like Zucker. They might also do it for an upgrade on Defense, but haven't worked out who that would be yet.

Roll with 22 and Call Glass up
I feel like they absolutely have to do this because Cody Eakin is on the last year of his contract. He's too good to keep on the 4th line forever, and they will likely trade him at the deadline. So see if Glass is going to work there on the 3rd line or not before the deadline.

Zucker to LV
If Fenton had not been fired, I would have thought this was possible. If VGK had been smart and kept Gusev around for another week, I think they could have made this trade including him with much lower picks to give up.

Not Shattenkirk
I can see the desire to have a veteran, but he's gotten bad and it would really put downward pressure on our defensive prospects. VGK won't make this move unless someone gets hurt in camp.

Mantha AA Bertuzzi Extensions
If they both repeat their scoring this season, I think Mantha & Athanasiou would require at least $1M more per season to get the deal done. I also think that I DRW has $16-$18M in cap space at that point, they will try to make a trade / sign someone to get better down the middle. One of those guys could be a piece in that move.

VGK with Gusev
It looks like Fix-Wolansky is a pretty good prospect so I think the picks VGK gets back might be a little less, or perhaps we give a little better. But otherwise, I think this is a deal that could be made.

Going after Connor
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>feds91stammer</b></div><div>You gave up two lottery picks in the process. One of which could become Lafreniere. I get that adding Connor is an exciting idea but that team is still not a playoff team.</div></div>
A good point - I realize it is a risk. But at the same time, you only get an 18.5% chance of getting the top pick at best, even if you are the worst team in the league. In return for two of those 18.5% chances, you get a proven 30+ goal scorer and 60-70 point player who is 22 years old.
With Connor on the Red Wings, I think the chances of them getting the 1st pick would be miniscule - this team would probably just miss the playoffs at worst. In fact, if Mantha, Athanasiou, and Bertuzzi can stay health and have good years, I think we are going to still be about a 10th place finisher in the conference. Unfortunately, I don't think we can make the playoffs without overhauling the defense and goaltending, and that will take some of these contracts to expire at the end of the season / be traded at the deadline.

I don't know. Kyle Connor is a really great player, and I got this idea after the Athletic published a story about an all-Michigan team based on current players. Their hypothetical top line was Connor-Larkin-DeBrincat. The last part of that line is impossible - no way Chicago ever lets him go. But Connor-Larkin is possible right now. Although this is the max I would give up. I wouldn't go 4-1st.

Actually, I think that is Federov's actual salary, not what his cap hit would have been. But there was no cap, so.....
He signed a 6-year, $38M deal in 1998 with $21M up front - kinda like Aho.

I'm not sure VGK will do it, but I somewhat like the deal. Gives VGK a good NHL 3-rd line winger that they can use. They still need to make at least one move on top of this to make some cap space.

I think Vegas would do this, but probably will try to get one of your extra 4ths. Otherwise that would be good for getting the cap room to sign Gusev.

Bellows may be worth the trade for Gusev, but I doubt he then comes up to center the 4th line. Looks like both he and Glass would have too much skill to put on 4th line minutes. But he would be good depth in the AHL ready for a call up or for the next season after 19-20.

However TBay's not moving Point to do it so a cap issue becomes the stumbling block. But if there was a trade to be had, I wonder if Gusev and Cal Foote couldn't be the two primary's (figure out the balance with picks etc). (no need to involve a third party like Detroit)
Side note...nobody wishes for an injury to anyone, but was Callahan's misfortune not the luckiest thing in the world for Tampa?</div></div>
Yeah if Callahan didn’t get hurt it would be more likely a deal like this gets done because the cap pressure would almost be the same as Vegas’ right now.
Cal Foote looks like a good defenseman prospect, but I I think VGK has a good chunk in the pipeline. And not sure how you could sign Gusev & Point. But a good forward prospect might make it work, but then VGK would want a pick on top of it.

You are giving up a good young player with a coveted skill set that only few players in the league any more like Tom Wilson. Then you are trading away 4 draft picks for 1 player yes he is a very good player but one player isn't going to get you a cup. If that was possible Edmonton would have a couple more cups and McDavid would have a fist full of rings.</div></div>
No the Defense needs to be overhauled, and that's not happening without Green, Ericsson, and Daley all leaving after their contracts are up or if anything can be gotten for them at the deadline.

I'm a fan of Vegas too, and I think they might. Tampa had Gusev but didn't know when they could bring him over and it was the price they paid for VGK to take Garrison. And it's a new GM in TBL. Who knows.

Possibly. But if they keep Clarkson on LTIR, then Glass' rookie performance bonuses have to hit this year if he's brought up. He would be a $1.7M player against the cap, not $850K. So they probably still have to move some money or the Clarkson contract anyways.

Trade for Gusev amp Eakin for Zucker
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>I don't get it either but with the addition of Zuccarello maybe they'll keep him now.</div></div>
Maybe. But they seem a little wing-heavy and adding in Eakin gives them some more center depth.
Jesse Granger of the Athletic had a story that most of the prime KHL players who come over translate their KHL scoring at an 80% rate in the NHL. Everyone agrees that Gusev is the best <strong>non-amateur, non-NHL player</strong> in the world right now. He was basically the top player / tied for the top player at the Olympics and World Championships. Tournaments with bigger ice but a lot of NHL talent playing in them. He is likely to be Zucker's equal at least, and an elite level player at best.
Eakin is a proven 20 goal scorer - 40 pts - good 3rd line center. Can fill in at 2nd line center in a pinch. Lotta value and maybe you can resign him.
I really think adding that up plus taking Reaves is equal to getting Zucker back for VGK. But, I wouldn't be opposed to VGK adding a 2nd to balance it out, with taking back a 4th or 5th.

I have no idea why Minnesota has tried to trade a 27-year old player who has scored 76 goals over 3 seasons. But they've tried to do it twice now.
