(TOR/VAN) - Lafferty for 2024 5th (VAN)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>This trade is looking pretty good for Vancouver now. Lafferty seems to be a good fit there.
It was nice to see Ryan Reaves get his first goal as a Leaf (and first Leafs' goal when he was on the ice) last week. Hopefully it's a sign of better things to come.</div></div>
I wasn't sure Latterty would fit with the Canucks, but I was wrong. He's on pace for about 40 points and he's been excellent defensively. This is an easy win for the Canucks and I hope they can resign him.

(VAN/MTL) - Pearson, 2025 3rd (VAN) for DeSmith
After two months, Tanner Pearson has cooled off considerably and has just 2 points in his last 19 games and his on-ice goal differential has slipped to just 0.6 over expected. That's not enough for over $3 million. That wouldn't be enough for $1 million. On the other hand, DeSmith has played well enough to earn his paycheck and more.
So far, this is a Canucks win.

(VAN/CHI) - Beauvillier for 2024 5th (CGY/CHI)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zackhendo</b></div><div>Which trade has Alvin lost?</div></div>
He's been involved in 18 trades so far (Holy crap!) and I don't think he's truly lost any of them.
There have been a couple of trades that were weak. Riley Stillman didn't work and we gave up too much, even with the increased cap space. That said, Riley Stillman was later traded for Josh Bloom, so that might still work out. He gave up a 3rd for Travis Dermott, who was almost immediately injured, but that's just bad luck, not a bad trade.
Getting Stillman was a mistake and I would argue 10 of the 18 trades were fair, either because neither team benefited enough to matter or both teams benefited equally. The Canucks won the other 7, sometimes by large margins like the Horvat and Hronek trades.

Montreal Canadiens signed Samuel Montembeault (3 Years / $3,150,000 AAV)
This is a good price for a 1B goalie ... Or it is a great deal if you are desperate for a new #1, because both of your goalies suck right now and you'd be willing to trade away your 1st round pick for a decent goalie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_Habs_fan</b></div><div>This is a fair deal though Calgary could get an L for mismanagement</div></div>
I was just talking this trade with my dad and we were saying Calgary looks dysfunctional right now and a lot of players could want out. Maybe this is a good thing for the Canucks and Zadorov will play much better here than he did in Calgary, because he will want to be here.

On the one hand, Nikita Zadorov's stats are not good and he's overpaid. (The Athletic has his market value at just $2 million.) On the other hand, the Canucks gave up very little to get him. Call it a fair deal, but I think both teams lost here.

That he will thrive when given top-six minutes and do well enough that some team will give him more money next year.
He was a cap dump from the Islanders to the Canucks and from the Canucks to the Hawks, but the Canucks got assets for him in both trades. That's a great record for the Canucks.

Normally I would agree with you, but this is Vegas's 50th contract, so they are at their limit. I would not have used their 50th contract on this person, especially since they are struggling in the WHL this season.

The Athletic just released their cards and Beauvillier's value is $2.5 million BELOW his salary, so the Canucks got a 5th round pick while saving $2.5 million in cap hit. I'd call that a win.

I just checked and Chicago might not be able to put Hall on LTIR. If everyone on Chicago's IR went on LTIR, they would slip below the salary cap MINIMUM. They only have ~$53.5 million in on-ice cap hit and just under $8 million in dead cap space, putting them about $100,000 below the salary cap floor.
On a side note, they will be able to turn that salary cap room into at least one 1st round pick

Yep. This is a classic win-win. Actually, it's win-win-win.
Chicago desperately needed a forward and gave up very little to get one.
Vancouver desperately needed cap space to get another defenceman and actually got an asset back to move out $4 million in cap space.
Beauvillier gets to go to a team where he will have a real shot at playing with Bedard and if he clicks on that line he will get a RAISE in the off season.

(VAN/CHI) - Beauvillier for 2024 5th (CGY/CHI)
Beauvillier is on pace for about 30 points this season and his on-ice goal differential is 5.4 ABOVE expected. He's a good player. Unfortunately for the Canucks, he was so far down the depth chart that he was playing 4th line minutes this season and you can't pay your 4th liner $4.15 million.
I suspect he will play a LOT more in Chicago and will score lot more points, so Chicago might have won this trade. On the other hand, you usually have to give up assets to get $4.15 million in cap space, so the Canucks might have won this trade.
Call it a fair deal.

If you grab a player on waivers, they have to make your NHL roster, otherwise, their original team gets him back. Bogosian is a good depth player / injury call-up, but the latter is not possible if you can't put him in the AHL.

High rewards with a relatively low risk. Even if he's only half of what he was last year, then this won't be a terrible contract.

He's on pace for over 100 points this season, so this is an amazing steal!
On a serious note, this is great news, because it is clear he can play at the NHL level, so at worse he's an injury call-up and any team would love a dozen players like him.

The Wild gave up an NHL player who is, at worst, a bottom pair and will likely get significant ice time with the Sharks. All they got back was an AHLer and a pick that will probably not even become an AHLer. Sharks win this one.
