Yeah but all teams carry the fully roster compliment of 21 skaters and 2 goalies. I can't think of a time a team ran with less players unforced off the top of my head. It doesn't bode well for competition for team spots when there's only one guy pushing for a spot on the ice. It also means you're boned if you pick up a couple of small injuries that keep a guy or two out for a game or two becuase they can't be put on LITR and you don't have space to call anyone up.

Opps, Lindblom should be on the 3rd line - forgot to move him.
It's just hard for me to trade Ghost for a 3rd line player, even with the first. He's a really good player who had a down year on a really good contract. I think he'll bounce back big to being a 45-55 point D on a better alround team. That would make his production to cap hit a huge competative advantage. I just don't think you win a trade like that.

You say that (and to an extent I agree, but what's the point of being on here if we don't go mad with the trades!) but you're also a player short and over the cap (which could still be lower than your number). Plus there's no way we get Provorov that cheap for that long, same with Konecny and Sanheim though they might not be far off but it's still cap space you don't have. Retained salary on Reimer would help but not enough.

The EDM trade seems fairly reasonable. I doubt Puljujärvi gets close to $2m but that just free's you up more cap space.

Flyers still have zero interest in Juulsen. We have a carbon copy in Myers who is now our 3rd pair RHD. There's no space for Juulsen. If we move Ghost it's going to be for a serious upgrade and/or a 1st round pick. We have no need to move him to fill the 3rd line RW if we're only getting a middle 6 player back. We can just put a prospect there, and safely presume Ghost bounces back after last season.

Rumor Voracek is being shopped what would you offer
I think you target one of the teams either in win now mode with cap space who could do with deeper offence or one of the up and coming teams who are trying to strengthen to take the next step. Dallas, Nashville, and the Islanders are in that first group. Buffalo, Colorado, Arizona and maybe Ottawa if they think they're trying to start winning yet are in the second.
Ideally you open up cap space to sign Provorov, Sanheim, Konecny long term so the real prize would be an additional 1st round pick. Then maybe a bottom 6 winger or backup goalie depending on how much value is left.

Big RFAs Deals and Making Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>Ehlers is only scratching the surface in terms of his potential. not to mention that he is our fastest player.
Therefore, I humbly disagree</div></div>
I take all the points you're making, I guess the Jets would rather move a guy like Perreault but obviously there won't be much return for him. WPG has built well from drafting and acquiring young talent, that feels more in their wheelhouse.
That said:
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>A trade I saw was Larsson and their 2019 1st (7 OA) for ehlers and comrie. another one I saw was ehlers for Larsson, JP, 38 OA. A MTL one was Juulsen/Brook, 1st, 2nd.</div></div>
I don't think either of these trades are much better. Obviously the 7thOA pick is a big haul but Larsson is meh though I guess it serves a need. I don't think JP has much value here although I do think he could potentially still shine elsewhere. His trade value is minimal - EDM basically had the choice to get anything at all for him or he's going to the KHL and they get nothing. Juulsen is massively overhyped by the MTL fans who say he's the second coming but also include him in every deal (not saying he's trash, just not as high as implied)... I don't think Frost has less value that him.
I can see that perhaps my deal is short though. What if the 2020 1st was added?

Probably, but it's been well documented that the Pens would probably like to add more picks by moving down as the farm is getting thin. If it wasn't Flyers - Pens I think it's fairly realistic.

How come? I don't think that's a bad deal at all. They get another 1st round pick and Frost - a very good prospect and a natural centre which they need, not to mention plenty of cap refief to fit in Myers, Connor, and Laine (plus others).

Is Konecny the on you'd target for the long term extension over Sanheim and Provorov?
I don't see the backup getting that much. At this point, especially as I think you could get Reimer cheaply at $1.7m, you might as well just see what the UFA market looks like. How many teams need more goalies? If you can get any of Talbot, Elliott, McElhinney, or Reimer sub-$2m I'd just take the cheapest. Really you're aiming at them playing 30 games tops plus the goaltening in the AHL should be stronger if someone has to step in for a few games.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GirouxCrew</b></div><div>No disrespect but these are bad trades. You’d be giving up the best player in the trade in Voracek and I think Ratcliffe has more value right now than JP. Sure we’d get the first but it doesn’t justify taking back both manning and gagner.
And no way WPG trades Ehlers for spare parts and the opportunity to move up 9 spots in the draft. Just doesn’t make sense</div></div>
EDM are giving up the 8th pick. That's very valuable. WPG has the players it needs but needs cap space - they get cheap players to fill the bottom of the roster and the chance to get a player of Ehlers stature in the draft (maybe finally draft the 2nd line centre they need).
We don't know what Ratcliffe will become but I think we Flyers fans are a bit to high on him. He's a good prospect but not a top level. He's also got Frost and Farabee ahead of him. Puljujärvi gets you a RW who could turn out to be excellent but even if not with the 8th overall pick you get someone vastly superior to Ratcliffe who is (benificailly) a few years away.

Whatever happens you're not getting a steal on Provorov. A deal long now will be in the region of $6-7m. After a bridge deal that maybe goes up to $8.5m if he does really well? If you can get Sanheim signed for 7 or 8 years at around $5.5m or less you're likely very quickly saving a hefty amount of cap as he gets better. That said we should be looking to go long with both Provy and Sanheim and bridging Konecny IMO.

Oh no, now we'd only have six 20 goal scorers (3rd most in the league). Plus we have tons more depth at centre with a very good 2-way centre. It's been pointed out that Hayes 5v5 point scoring over the past few seasons is almost the same as Duchene's who's the number one UFA centre. Fact is you always give something to acquire a player. In a trade it's picks and player assets, for a UFA it's extra cap space. Flyers had plenty of cap and used it. Karlsson got 11.5, Skinner got 9, Nelson got 6(!). Good players are getting more expensive.

Chucky Two Trades
I think yor assessment is pretty much spot on. People expect UFA's to sign cheap . A lot of people seemed to think Hayes would be getting the same money as his previous contract. Hayes is a very good 2-way centre who provides a 200 foot game, defensive and PK accumen, drives play, and can also play wing. He was also the second best UFA centre going. The deal isn't a steal but it's huge that we have that galring hole filled with a quality player.
I'm not sure I'd go with Smith but other than that I suspect (or at least hope) this is about right.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jmac490</b></div><div>What did you think of the Braun deal to Philly? I feel like you won that trade quite well</div></div>
Most 'urgh'. Don't hate Braun, don't see what he really brings - he's at best likely a 4 or 5 right now but it feels like Fletcher is think solid top 4. Feels like it was a lot to give up too. It increases the chances Ghost is moved which - with how Fletcher has been dealing - feels like he'd sell him cheap.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jmac490</b></div><div>I think Perreault has fallen out of favour in Winnipeg. He spent a lot of the season on the 4th line, with PK time. Could be the case that others in the lineup purely outplayed him.
I could change the deal to be Perreault + 3rd for Zaitsev + 4th?
Zaitsev can be a decent defender. His first year was pretty good. He also played quite well with Muzzin. I think he gets a lot of heat due to playing with Gardiner and not having the offensive upside that Gardiner has</div></div>
Maybe - Zaitzev's deal is the kicker though - like Braun he's probably a guy you want as your 5 and 4 when necessary. 5 years at $4.5m is too much cap for that. I don't think he's a bad player, just not good for that money.

I think that's a huge overpay for Ehlers. Both him and Ghost are good cost controlled players who had bad years. They both address team needs. I don't think you need the 11th pick to balance the deal, that's a huge price - that pick, in this draft, should get you a player at least on Ehlers level in a few years.

Way more expensive though. I really wanted a 1 year UFA guy who can just slot in and if Frost / Farabee / Ratcliffe look awesome it's no big deal to slot them in if Pirri doesn't pan out or injuries happen.

Braun is bad - why do we need him? I'd actually rather have Schlemko in his spot, at least he's left handed. I'm not even joking, Schlemko grades out as at last as good as Braun and arguably a better fit for Vigneault's style (Schlemko can make zone exits / transition plays far better).

The Perreault for Zaitsev deal has legs but you've got it the wrong way round adding more to what Toronto receives. Perreault is a good middle 6 winger maybe slightly overpaid but not by much, plus he's only got 2 years left. Zaitsev is reasonable depending on your take but certainly not a 1, 2, or 3. He's overpaid by $500k-$1m and have 5 years of that.

I mean there's no way the Flyers wouldn't match that Sanheim offer sheet, it's probably less than we'll offer him as a longer term deal anyway. I'd better perfectly happy with a $5.5m cap hit for a 7 or 8 year deal.
As for the Ghost trade: I don't hate it but we'd need a replacement for him as he's one of 4 and that just creates us another headache. At the moment I just can't see it unless we bring in someone like Spurgeon (who I don't think is actually avaliable) or Miller who is Ghost-lite IMO.

Flyers say no. We'd like a 3rd line RW but moving Ghost means we need a new top 4 veteran D and Juulsen just isn't that. We have Myers who's basically the same and we moved Gudas out so he could have the 3rd line RHD role.
We also have zero interest in picks right now.
