I am not sure you guys are looking at this objectively. MA Fleury is a UFA in 4 months or 2 months from the TDL. Dylan Strome is a RFA who will cost to retain and he hasn't been consistent enough to date to justify his current deal. For these 2 assets and taking on Kassian you think this is worth more than 2 first round pick with one already tracking very well as late rounder? That is not happening we can fill those 2 spots cheaper and keep Kassian.
Counter with Koskinen , Lavoie and a 3rd-2023 for MA Fleury at 50%

These deals are slam dunk for the Oilers IMO. For 2 slight pick downgrades we upgrade or change backup goalie and number 3 LD for this years playoffs. I like this a lot but there is more to do. you left us with 4.5m in cap room and holes to fill. What is the rest of "The plan"?

Post trade deadline roster for the start of playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UBS_ARENA</b></div><div>Kane is way past his last chance. Hes destroyed the locker rooms in atlanta, buffalo, winnipeg and now san jose. Then you get the problem that hes signed to a 7m aav long term. Nobodys touching him for anything over league minimum imo.
As for the islander trades, the 1st is probably too much but since theyd have him for 2 playoff runs its probably something like 2 2nds and koskinen for varly.
The mayfield trade is a comolete disaster. The isles have cap space so theres no need to move clutter. Especially as i highly doubt lou considers cal a cap dump. Either way a 50% retained clutterbuck will bring back positive value for sure.
Now mayfield (like i said before) is in the savard/chiarot area. Trading him for barrie who is not a good player and who has a big contract is a bad idea.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Tyson Barrie, reportedly signed 3x$4.5M by EDM, is a one-way offensive defenceman whose strong passing ability and powerplay skills are counteracted by being arguably the worst defensive blueliner in the league. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/LetsGoOilers?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">#LetsGoOilers</a> <a href="https://t.co/GhQLiaaApZ" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">pic.twitter.com/GhQLiaaApZ</a></p>— JFresh (@JFreshHockey) <a href="https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1420381037406916619?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">July 28, 2021</a></blockquote>
</div></div>
The Clutterbuck portion was just to even out money on the deal. He is not a need right now. The thing i was looking at is that Barrie is a very good offensive defenseman and is an elite PP defenseman that could really fill a need. There is a lot of good defensive guys in your core already so Barrie would bring good offence at the cost a 5/6 d-man.

The Oilers wouldn't be retaining on Barrie. I am going to use this as a base for another oiler TDL option though as moving Barrie would fill the cap space needed for Ullmark.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UBS_ARENA</b></div><div>Idk what youre smoking.
1- mayfields contract is great and does give him value but at best he gets a late 1st (like savard and potentially chiarot). But practically untouchable???? C'mon man.
2- you arent getting the islanders out of anything, what you are saying is that varlamov is a cap dump which is kind of delusional. Has he had the greatest start to the season? No. But is he a cap dump? Absolutely not.
3- i agree with everything you said on kane except if im not mistaken he was moved from 3 teams bc of his antics not including the sharks where hes alienated the locker room.</div></div>
My original idea was to have the NYI trade as one big trade, but split it into two. I feel the first is to much for Varlamov, but Mayfield and cap dump for Barrie needed more.
In regards to Kane, I think he is in last chance territory now and will be on his best behavior now or his bookies will likely kneecap him.

I think you guys need to look at the big picture. Everyone of those players is a free agent at the end of the year. So when its all said and done the oilers have the right's to Strome and the Blackhawks have a 1st and 2nd round pick. That seems like a big win for you guys here. Sure we get a playoff run with Fleury, but he will not be affordable long term so this is a one and done thing.

I would reserve judgment on the Defense just yet. Ceci has been on an upward trajectory, and the wild card here is Bouchard as he might turn into a top 4 defenceman this coming year.

You might be able to sign him for $5,000,000 x 6 years.
That's about as low as it's gonna get.
Then add $500,000 to each of Hyman, Danault and Yammo.
Then give Hyman an 8th year and send a 2nd rounder to Toronto.
Outside of that though ... I gotta say ... this team likely misses the playoffs.</div></div>
It has been reported that Barrie would entertain something in this range. 4-4.5 m. I started low.
Yamamoto had an off year and would be lucky to get 1.75 given that Puljujarvi is making 1.175M.
In regards to Hyman and Danault I would gladly let them go if 5x7 was not good enough.
This team is a huge improvement on our team that just did make the playoffs. If all goes according to plan Klefbom will pull a Kucherov and its off teh races.

my protected list for Edmonton is:
Draisatl, Mcdavid, RNH, Puljujarvi, Yamamoto, Benson and Archibald
Keith, Bear and Nurse.
This leaves the choices as Kassian, Laggesson, Khaira or Marody.
Of those Kassian is the BEST NHLer, so I had them picking them.

its a first with the wings giving a late 3rd in return basically a 65spot upgrade for Neal.

Yes plenty of rumours flying around though will be interested to see what really comes of it. Ive seen local EDM outlets say Jones + Turris for Keith. I would not be best pleased with that outcome even if it saved us cap space. It would also signal a push for S.Jones who I don't think we should be giving up assets for. CBJ already fleeced us once in recent time!</div></div>
I would not do a Turris and Jones for Keith Deal. I would rather bury Turris and sign a UFA.

The oilers trade down to get a second and lose $4.0 in cap hit, so they can afford to retain AA. This is like trading a 1st for a lower 1st and 3-2nds really, but I guess I don't know what I am doing.....

I live in Winnipeg and saw him live a ton when he was here as well as with you guys this year at least 5-7 times. I am not saying he is a 7 that is why I mentioned a trade. What I do know is he is no where near as good as Nurse, so he is second pairing for sure, but what will you do with Edmonson? You guys have no first pairing LD but maybe that is fine with Weber and Petry on the right side.
