3 way with EDM and Pens
With Ferraro, Vlasic, Knyzhov, Thrun, Pulli, Simek, Macdonald, the last thing the Sharks need is to add 2 more LDmen to their roster while adding both Granlund and Petry as well as retaining 3.5mil on EK65 for 4 more years.
Deal doesn't make sense for SJ.

EK65 trade already
Ok. Some of these Karlsson trade proposals are getting ridiculous.
So the Sharks are 1) retaining HALF, 2) taking on Petry, AND 3) taking on Granlund?

SJ Keep EK65 Sign Matthews Pesce Wilson in 2024 Buyout Vlasic Trade for Askarov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>It was a high asking price for one of those picks, but Askarov + 15thOA and 24thOA is a lot to give up. He is NSH's future in goal and the fact that Trotz was openly selling him for that pick says a lot. That was the asking price for Askarov, but since that isn't there anymore it will take a lot more than what was presented here to move him, especially to San Jose. As Ennis stated earlier, I'm certain that Trotz would still entertain offers, but the asking price will likely still be insane.</div></div>
To be fair, Weisblatt isn't a throwaway piece either. I know his stock has been down but just last week he was the standout player in the development camp scrimmage (behind only Musty). I agree the offer's on the low end, but it's not by much. I think maybe adding the NJD 2nd/1st to Bordeleau and Weisblatt gets it done. Sharks have a surplus of RH-forwards in the AHL so he's expendable in that sense, as is Bordeleau given Smith+Bystedt if SJ targets a top center in free agency next year. Askarov's going to wait a long time to be the future in NSH and I think this trade is fair and makes sense for all sides.

SJ Keep EK65 Sign Matthews Pesce Wilson in 2024 Buyout Vlasic Trade for Askarov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoreHitzSeider</b></div><div>Zadina in your top 6. Nice.</div></div>
You can swap him and Barabanov, who's a solid 2nd liner who usually plays with Couture, and have him on the 3rd line instead, but Zadina's a decent bet for a bounce-back season playing alongside Eklund and Hertl and I project him to have a good year with SJ and stick around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ennis</b></div><div>Sharks need Bordeleau and Preds need Askarov.</div></div>
I can see this Bordeleau Askarov swap. NSH is reportedly entertaining offers for him (whether they should or not is a separate discussion). If Bordeleau doesn't (or even hasn't) impressed with Grier -- he wasn't his pick -- and/or doesnt' make the jump to the NHL quickly, Grier can sign one of Lindholm/Matthews (Patty+Jumbo+a young up and coming team+maybe some roots in the bay area can lure him) and also have Hertl+Couture below them at center with Smith+Bystedt coming in soon. They have no clear goalie of the future though. It's a fair trade I think that makes a lot of sense for SJ and a trade I think NSH considers and could take.

Red Wings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Sharks take Chiarot and buy him out after this year. the cap hit for a Chiarot buyout is only one year more than an EK retention and is:
- 24-25: $1,083,333
- 25-26: $2,083,333
- 26-27: $1,583,333
- 27-28: $1,583,333
As opposed to to the 3.5-5.75 mil most (fans) want Sharks to retain on EK until 26-27. It also keeps two retention slots open for deadline deals, instead of being limited to 1 for the next 2 years</div></div>
Very good point. Favorable buyout cap penalty for sure.

I think Sharks consider it and ultimately do it if Chiarot is swapped with a 2024 1st and SJ retains say 1.5-2mil.

Doesn't fit with the Sharks. SJ needs another LDman like a hole in the head. SJ should prefer the picks+prospects+cap space.

Pass. This is closer in value to simply dumping Granlund and Petry than it is to acquiring the reigning norris winner locked up at a reasonable 8mil aav for your 2-year cup window.

EK to PIT Route
This return, while I personally wouldn't do it as Sharks GM, is realistic for what to expect from Grier. However, that's too much retention. I see 33% retention max out of Grier.
Sharks accept if it's about 3.5mil retained instead of 4.6mil. Or send a 2nd rounder to a 3rd party team for them to retain 1-1.5mil or so.

Hear me out
If you add Niemela to the deal (like the description says) and lower the cap hit retention to maybe 3-4mil (maybe throw in another pick for a 3rd team to retain), and SJ/TOR confirm that Nylander would resign with SJ to a long-term deal for 9mil or so, Sharks accept and it makes sense too.
A wild card here is the fact that Patty's helping Grier in the GM role, that Marner and Patty are father and son, that Marner has a super large cap hit like EK65, and so I think Marner to SJ is a possibility not many are discussing in a potential EK65 deal with all the focus on Nylander.
