Pay the price for Sam Bennett
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>it's still a 124 game sample - enough to draw some meaningful conclusions from. Also, if you're going to talk about the 10 game stretch being a "shooting bender" (he shot 15.4% after joining the Panthers), you should also point out that he's on a shooting cold streak this year - he's only scoring on 7.1% of his shots. Even when he was a 30-35 point guy in Calgary, he was shooting 10%, so you'd have to think there's some positive regression coming.</div></div>
a 124 game sample size in a 525 game career, and he's still only averaging 25ish goals per 82 over that sample size. Like he had 34 goals in his first 'season' of 81 games in florida which accounts for just under 1/3rd of his career scoring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>it's weird that the title of the post is about paying the price for Bennett and then you don't - he's averaged 29 goals and 61 points per 82 GP since getting out of Calgary and onto the Panthers, and is signed for two more years at $4.425M. The most similar trade in recent memory I can think of for a guy with that kind of production/term combo was Calgary trading for Tyler Toffoli - the Flames gave up an arguably better (or at least less injury-prone) prospect in Emil Heineman, they had the 1st and aa pair of mid-round picks, and they sent back less cap. And that's for Toffoli, a guy who was 3 years older than Bennett and played the wing, not center - so by all metrics, a less valuable player. Toronto would probably need to include Matthew Knies in this deal if they wanted any hope of it happening.</div></div>
I agree that the proposed package might not be that enticing but Knies for Bennett even one for one wouldn't happen

saying he averaged 29 goals and 61 points over his time in florida is a bit misleading, he has 10 games, then a 72 game season and 42 games. He's basically had one good goalscoring season after a 10 game hot streak where he was on a shooting bender and then this current season where he's on pace for less than 18 goals

I wouldn't have thought of Toffoli as a comparison. The only thing I'd say is that Toffoli had 28 goals in 52 games the year before he was traded and Bennet also had 28 goals but in 71 games. Now Bennet is more physical than Toffoli so there is that but Toffoli has more of a track record producing in LA. Bennet has really only been at this level in Florida. I'd say it's a comparable but that Bennet has less value for the reasons stated above.

But you are correct, I don't have much faith in the Marlies....especially long term.</div></div>
I was hard on Holl at the start of the season, him and Muzz did not look great together. But Holl has look decent most nights since Muzzin had been out.
Liljegren ive always liked, and Gio has taken him under his wing and has really helped him in these 4 games already.
As for Dermott I wish him all the best, I think a change of teams will be good for him.

He's got more toughness than you think. Hoping the Leafs face the Bruins this year so he can show The Rat all about it. And I think you need to reference Jonas Hogland with Matt's Sundin :)

McDavid Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LIRIK</b></div><div>As a Habs fan, i'm wondering if Leafs fans are scared Matthews will sign with Arizona after his contract? I know they're only rumors, but he signed a 5 years deal which make him UFA at 27 years old.
Maybe he just wanted to make sure he sign another good contract. A 8 years contract would get him to 35 years old.
But yeah, they should extend Matthews, not sure about Marner. Maybe they think about trading him if they lose again in first round of playoffs. Get 2-3 decent players for him, something like that.</div></div>
I'm not worried about ARI, esp now that they're going to be in a 5000 seat arena for the next 4-5 years. But if the Leafs don't sign him prior to him hitting UFA status, the league is gonna throw a ton of $$ at him. CHI will be in a prime spot. LA as well. DAL, NYR, possibly even VEG (though they'd have to work some magic) Not worried about any other CDN teams......if it's not the Leafs he's heading to the states.
The 5 year deal was strategic. He gets max money during his RFA deals, and still hits UFA at the earliest time possible. Excellent work by the agent. And he's gonna get paid max money from whoever wants to pay.

TOR declines. Kerfoot is in almost 60 point pace this year compared to Pearson's 40, and he can play C. It's a clear L for the Leafs.
Given that Severson has expressed his interest to re-sign with Devils I don't think he'll be included in negotiations. I'd argue Zacha plus two seconds for Boeser and DiPietro is a more fair deal, maybe NJ adds someone like Walsh to the exchange so VAN gets themselves at least a RHD prospect.
Cap wise you don't really need to move Ferland's contract anywhere, and it's not possible to move players bonuses to be paid elsewhere.
DAL declines too. We have no use for another overpaid bottom-6 forward. I like the guy, but with Faksa and Glendening in here Dickinson is just wasted $2,5M+. Tufte is at least cost controlled and his impact to the game isn't far off from what Dickinson brings.

So if you were offered Mitch Marner for Trevor Moore (noted middle 6 forward) and Matt Roy (#3/4 d man), you would say no? Are you confusing Roy with prime Doughty or something?

How Much Is Muzzin Worth
People will say nothing as if he wasn’t widely considered a top 20 NHL d man among the hockey community prior to this year. He’s struggled in the time he’s played but he’s played a ton of time with Holl this year and the two have brought each other down, and have both been better when apart. Healthy Muzzin is at worst a good #3 d man if he can’t return to his level of play from prior to this season. I’d imagine the return is at least a 1st, especially considering Holland paid a 3rd + solid young d man (equivalent to Dermott more or less) for an older d man on pretty much the same contract who is much, much, much worse (and both have “intangibles” and experience as well)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>Why wouldn't the Rangers match that?</div></div>
Zibanejad's contract extension kicks his hit from $5.35M to $8.25M next year, and more importantly, Adam Fox's ELC ends and his $9.5M cap hit arrives. They've got 9 forwards and 1 goalie under contract for next year, and only $10M to replace the guys they're losing (Ryan Strome & those rentals they just traded for) and give their RFA guys raises/replace those RFA guys (Kakko, Georgiev, Blais, Hajek). Worst case scenario is you make them tie up probably $2M more than they wanted to in Kakko and make it harder to upgrade other parts of the team.

Leafs might accept that, management seems to like SDA though so it might be a different prospect like Kokkonen as we have a surplus of left shot defenceman
