The Blackhawks ran with a 20 man roster 2 years ago, mind you that was for the first two days of the year and didn't play their first game until the third day

I'm an habs fan and I assume any other fan would love to have Gusev on his team that is maybe the case with the guy you just answer. Player with Gusev talent are rare</div></div>
Vegas organization never leaks any info in their 2 years in the league. The one thing both Foley and McPhee have said over the last year over and over again, is that they are in a win now mode. I don't think they ever would have traded Haula without intending to sign Gusev.
Trading Eakin is more of a loss than trading both Reaves and "benchwarming Holden", if they are consistent with their "win now" words

In other words, I think you may have to move his contract too. I think a second rounder and solid prospect, along with taking Clarkson off the Knights' books, for Gusev, might be a little more fair and would save them the trouble of moving other players.</div></div>
It is a non issue, they can place him on LTIR in the offseason, training camp and the regular season, three separate formulas and applications to the league.
It is the exact same situation as the Leafs with Horton once they sign Marner

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>doubtfull
if they wanted him , like Karlsson they woulda made moves even at a loss to them to clear the cap .
IF Gusev was willing to take a team friendly 1-2 year deal it would be done .
right now VGK arent willing to pony up more then 4m at most as the Shipachyov Saga from Gusev's former long time KHL Center is leaving a bad taste in their mouth .
When Gusev's traded it wont be for a huge return , untested KHL players rights are never worth that much at his age .
Gusev even knows this , its why instead of waiting until his birthday on Jul 8th less then 90 days from when he signed with VGK he would have been a UFA like Radulov was and able to sign with any team . instead he took the ELC ensuring 0% leverage in negotiations because atleast this way he's got an NHL option .
Gusev isnt a Radulov who dominated the KHL without mercy for close to a decade , he's more like a Krieder type at the KHL level aka consistent producer but no Superstar . only people fooled by Gusev are those who dont watch the KHL . (he played with Kovlachuk , Datsyuk ,Dadanov ,Shipachyov Hersley and Voynov at the same time . . . basically the best players in the KHL at the time post Radulov )</div></div>
Vegas won't be trading him unless it is a return that will help them this year, a b prospect and a 2nd isn't enough, his only recourse is to go back to the KHL which will delay his UFA status til he is 29 and he will still have no NHL experience so his stock will be lower than it is now.

Nik Jensen's NYR former 1st rounder prospect playing for jokerit in the KHL and has 1 year before he's 27 and UFA.
a guy like Nik who's rights are worthless because of his pissing match with NYR management and choosing to stay in the KHL until his rights are void on this 27th birthday. that being said he's held off from re-signing with Jokerit in hopes NYR trade his rights .VGK would be a perfect fit for him honestly and NYR would be ideal for Gusev as he joins former World Cup teammate Artemi Panarin .
For MTL though it only makes sense if the players A)Established with 2 + NHL seasons , B) comes to us in a deal involving only picks .
Outside that there is nothing available we want worth parting with even an Olofsson</div></div>
The question isn't when he will be traded, but IF he will. Vegas will sign him unless they get a VERY good return for him

Holden and Reaves on a great year might combine for 8 goals for the year, Gusev could get that in October

Gusev Trade
Not enough for Gusev,
Jesse Granger keeps getting misquoted.
Here is a clearer response from him yesterday
"They’ve had teams call from around the league, they’ve had a few offers but I don’t think the offers are what they would like. Right now they are getting something like a second round pick with a prospect or a late draft pick attached to that, which is not nearly the value Nikita Gusev should draw."
<a href="https://vegashockeyknight.com/2019/07/14/vegas-golden-knights-an-interview-with-the-athletics-jesse-granger/" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://vegashockeyknight.com/2019/07/14/vegas-golden-knights-an-interview-with-the-athletics-jesse-granger/</a>
Since those offers are clearly not enough, that is the reason he hasn't been traded yet. They can move a couple of dead contracts and sign him themselves

Solving Vegas cap issues without paying too much
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frank_Booth</b></div><div>He was only a factor in game one. He was invisible after the Kane fight and a complete nonfactor when the Sharks took over the series.
His value to the Knights and the open market are totally different things. It’s like me saying Melker Karlsson is super important in the locker room so therefore he is worth a 2nd round and 3rd round pick.</div></div>
Fair enough, I think different than those in the organization that think highly of him. He did have his best year ever after signing that contract and he got that because both the Flyers an Rangers wanted to sign him so it was a bidding war.
I don't think he has much value myself, but different organizations value different things. To say that no team would want him is an error in thinking.

Solving Vegas cap issues without paying too much
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frank_Booth</b></div><div>Lets be real, picks outside the top 10 in the draft can go anywhere. Certainly picks outside the first round are total crapshoots. OR we can go by the only concrete facts we know. 1) Reaves is a face puncher, that’s what he does. You can find those guys anywhere in your teams farm system for very cheap. Reaves is not special, he is effective in the regular season at punching faces and chipping in the odd goal here and there. He is not effective in the playoffs. See round one against SJ for instance, he was only relevant in game 1 (sjs won that game 5-2) after that SJ ignored him and he was a total nonfactor the rest of the series. How this man is worth anything outside of a sixth round pick completely baffles me.
2) Binnington could indeed be a flash in the pan but the odds are currently against that given the year he had and the fact that he won the cup..I know, still could be a flash in the pan but I’d say..likely not. STL was the best team in the league starting in the new year and one could argue a good portion of those wins are because of Binnington.</div></div>
There are many in Vegas's organization who believe Reaves has more value than Gusev with the team, otherwise they would have shipped him out for Gusev. Yeah he isn't there to score but he certainly threw Kane off his game to be a total non factor penalty making machine.

Nabber is Vegas's best defensive defenseman, they aren't letting him go when three rookies will be fighting for a spot. Holden makes the same money as Nabber and he 's been their 7th or 8th guy, Holden goes even if it costs a sweetner

Both Denisenko and Heponiemi played much better than Tippett in camp and have surpassed him on the depth chart, non of them will likely make the big club this year. Panthers need either a solid defenseman or a scoring winger to play along side of Barkov.

Moves with VGK and DAL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>Certainly possible. But at some point the ask will have to come down. Vegas has to get under obviously. And if they're able to trade other piece(a) (Eakin? Holden? Reaves?) I'm not sure if they'd even be able to fit Gusev in instead. Admittedly haven't done the math though</div></div>
Reaves and Holden would do the trick. But Gusev's only recourse is to go back to the KHL, which would delay his UFA status til he is 29 (defector clause). His stock would end up lower than it is now.
If Vegas doesn't either get him to move his price or get better offers they can play hardball.
Worst case scenario he signs a one year deal for less $$, this way he has his NHL experience and is a UFA next year

That isn't what the ask is, that is what other teams are offering, which clearly isn't enough or the deal would have been done by now.
Florida is looking at trading Tippett, they were not impressed with his performance at development camp.
