If there is an Award for The Best PENS CapFriendly GM - Ill prepare my speech

Created by: Sidstick87
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 14, 2019
Published: Jul. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
________________________________________________________________________________________________

REAL CAP SPACE w/ 23 on ROSTER = $1.055m

To WBS : 3- Players
G- T. Jarry
LHD- N. Seeler OR RHD- C. Ruhwedel
RW- J. Archibald OR LW- M. Jones
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This team is Deep AF and I would love if all of this happened b/c the Pens have had a great off-season so far and this would cap it off perfectly.

- FORWARD group has about 9,735 different combo's it could use w/ having 7 possible guys that can play Center & Wing in....
Sissons, Blueger, Bjugstad, McCann, Rodrigues, Kahun, & even Gally.
* If needed speed in line-up - Rodrigues & A. Johnson
* If needed Physical guy - Jones & Archi

- DEFENSIVE group is also deeper and better w/ giving Schultzy a good partner in McCabe & outing the Black Hole in JJ.
PLUS keeping that great 3rd Pairing together in 28 & 44.
* Depth in #7, #8, #9 w/ RHD- Ruhwedel / LHD- Seeler / LHD - Riikola -who can play both sides

- GOALIES are 3- strong w/ keeping Jarry & w/ DeSmith proving to be a great Back-up.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

GMJR has been finally doing what I've been begging for this team to do since the 2nd Cup - GET YOUNGER !!!
And now the Pens no longer need an AARP card during season!!

With MOVES like.....
- Hags (who lost a step or 2) for 27yr old Guddy who has been great here
- Brassy (shouldn't be in NHL) for a 26yr old Stud RW/C Bjugstad & a 22yr old star in the making Wing McCann-Can
- Sprong (who is up & down) for a hell of a 23 yr old Top 4 LHD-man in Petersson
- Maatta (solid but slow AF) for a late blooming 24 yr old Rookie w/ speed in Kuhan
- Kessel (Lost his burst & is a Nitemare 5 on 5 but still great on PP) for a 25 yr old New 3rd star in Gally who will explode being around Sid & Geno
* Yah I kno he signed Tanev to a 6 yr deal BUT who cares??? We will be in Full Re-Build in 3-4 yrs anyways.
Plus WSH just gave Hags who is 3yrs older & maybe has 1 yr left in him a 4yr deal thats only $750k less per yr.

MIN
  1. Johnson, Jack
  2. 2020 4th round pick (PIT)
2.
PIT
  1. Jones, Max
Additional Details:
The annual Every year Ducks - Pens Trade.

- Jones is lower on the Ducks prospect rankings but I really like his size & speed. Hallander will probably end up being the better Player but Jones can help on the 4th line now, while our window is open.
ANA
  1. Hållander, Filip
Additional Details:
- Hallander is the Pens best Forward Prospect but still probably 2 yrs away from playing in NHL.
3.
PIT
  1. McCabe, Jake [RFA Rights]
  2. Rodrigues, Evan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
- Im a big fan of McCabe & think he would thrive here around better players. Plus he'd be a great 2nd pairing guy w/ Schultzy
BUF
  1. Miletic, Sam
  2. Rust, Bryan
Additional Details:
- I absolutely hate losing Rusty but its the only option w/ his cap hit and the need for a LHD-man.
4.
PIT
  1. Sissons, Colton [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
- Sissons is a very under rated player that is a perfect 3rd line Center type or RWer that is a Great 2-way player but can score too. Even w/ NSH being stacked at C, Sissons took 800 Face-offs and won 53.1% of them.
NSH
  1. Aston-Reese, Zach [RFA Rights]
  2. Ölund, Linus
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
- ZAR still has upside, can play on any line at anytime, is physical, & a great PK guy. Needs to stay healthy, maybe this change helps him??

5/5 for positivity and optimism. I wish I had the same for my teams (or for the Pens for that matter).

Swapping 7th round pick to 4th round pick and losing $3M in cap space for several years is not worth it. There's no performance difference between Seeler and Johnson really...

Lol Buffalo would never accept that. McCabe is our only D that can play good shutdown defence and ERod is a cheap 30+ point guy. No way you get both for Rust.

the penguins are not trading a top 6 forward prospect for a ****ing 4th liner.

I hate the constant, if they were on a better team, bs argument. That's how you end up with a bunch of bad players on a team. You end up with nothing but a whole collection of, they would be better players if they were on a better team, and then wonder why the team sucks.

Maybe if they were better players to begin with they would you know, be better players.
It's like looking at JJ and asking, did you expect different? He was marginal at best for CBJ and he's that here too.
A better team didn't fix it.

Fair enough, Everyone has dif opinions of players and that players value but I have made that type of trade before w/ Rusty & prospect or pick for McCabe & Rodrigues .... with most BUF fans saying yes or take them? IDK, evertime i watch BUF, I always liked McCabe and thought he played solid... PLUS when Pens played BUF, He always played solid & played 20+ min.

I dont think anyone can honestly say Hallander will be a top 6 guy in NHL but he does look good so far. Max Jones has potential to be a really good top 9 forward, all I was saying was that w/ his speed & size he could be a big factor on this team while our window is still open these next 2-3 yrs. I hate to say it bc I hate him but Jones reminds me of a Tom Wilson type player and look at him now he is on the 1st line.

The Gally argument is valid here tho, When MTL had 2 good teams - Gally's 2nd & 3rd yr - he had 50+ points both seasons & 20 then 30 goals those yrs.
- I just see him being here as a perfect situation ....
1- having no issue w/ being a Center or wing,
2- No pressure to be the star of the team
3- Contract yr
4- will have to play very good to get the ice time (even on PP)

It's a real reach to think Jones is going to turn out to be able to produce points like WIlson.
Hallander is projected as a top 6 forward.
I would not trade one for the other. I don't care how much grit the other one brings. You still have to win games. It's easier to bring in a lower line player to be the grit, which is traditionally what teams do. Otherwise you get stuck with a wilson situation where the player makes good money, and then starts to get massive fines, and realizes, it costs a lot of money to be "that guy" and finds himself being neutered.

No I didnt mean he was going to be as physical as Wilson or put up points like Wilson... Im only saying if there is a comparable young player like Wilson its Jones w/ his size of 6'-3" - 220lbs and can skate even better than Wilson.
I am only trading Hallander bc he will be just coming into NHL when we are in full re-build, so i was just using him for a trade.

It doesn't matter if he makes it in the window or not. You don't down trade out of desperation which is exactly what you are suggesting.
Last thing any team wants is to get took on a trade.
Besides, even if Hallander spent all this year in the AHL, he could very well play next year at the NHL level.
Either way, this team is already on the downward path. The only thing that is going to stop that is really good young talent, not mediocre side pieces.

2 years at most. He's 19, next year he's 20 and at WBS if he doesn't go this year. Being on the Sweden roster doesn't mean anything yet.
I don't see him spending more than a half season in WBS at 20.
