He'd be the 2C if both were healthy imo. His two way game is so important to the team.

Staios said last night that they want to make Pinto a part of the core. He's going nowhere for the next 5-6 years minimum.

I'll add the caveat that I absolutely don't seriously think they're gonna overturn half of the roster this summer. It's just that I think these are the guys I confidently fit a team building in that framework.

Throughout the season, the one team Jacques used as a point of comparison for what he wants this team to be more than any other was the Panthers. Assuming that mindset is reflected by the rest of the front office (not a huge leap given the career Staios had), building the team in that image would be building a Brady Tkachuk team. Given Staios' talk about building a culture and an identity, I think it's a reasonable assumption to make tbh.

Could there be something there
Definitely not. I'll take an injured player over a lazy player any day. Dubois has talent, but he's got no work ethic in his game, and everywhere they go people get sick of this guy. I'll take a guy who's beloved, works hard but can't stay healthy any day.
I do think Norris ends up being moved this summer. I'm not optimistic on the return, but I definitely wouldn't be considering this.

I mean... on paper my gut says no, but on paper they don't look like a 109 pt top of the division team either. They should be the favourite.

Pageau could totally make sense for Ottawa. I think they move on from Norris this summer. Pinto is a clear 2C at this point, and Greig can play C, but they prefer him at LW. Team is too young down the middle, they need a vet C who can play.

Hronek OTT
Greig isn't going anywhere. Great two way season for a rookie, and he's such a versatile player for them. Plays with heart and he's capable of setting the tone for a team that needs more of that.
Hronek is a good player, but he's weak defensively, and his ask for his next deal is beyond insane. Completely propped up by an insane, obviously unsustainable start this year that was never indicative of what he actually capable of. Not at all what Ottawa needs, especially not at this price tag.

Attempt at some upgrades
Boqvist is terrible, absolutely unusable defensively, and doesn't do anything offensively either. You'd be hard pressed to find a player who is a worse fit for what Ottawa needs.
Also Ottawa should be well beyond the stage of "gambling" on the starting goalie position. They need someone legitimate. The gambles have never paid off. Got some good years out of Forsberg as a waiver claim, and Nilsson was solid in spite of his health, but that's about it for competent goaltending in the post Anderson. I'm done with the maybes and could bes.

Would Ottawa do it
Ottawa absolutely isn't doing this lol. Marchenko is good, but Ottawa's not leaving that kind of upside on the table. There are players at 8th who are absolutely gonna be far better than him, in my opinion. I don't see how it makes any sense for Ottawa to pass on someone like Yakemchuk or Parekh for a winger of Marchenko's level.

I think he was more of a passenger to greatness than it appeared at the time. That crop of US national team guys was unreal. Look at the guys he was playing with in his Draft year and his minus 1 year. Hughes, Zegras, Caufield, Boldy, Faber, Farabee, Miller. There was so much star power in that group that it made a couple of "also there's" look like stars too. Some of them were always gonna be stars and some where a product of their environment. Guys like Turcotte, Wahlstrom, Beecher etc.
