If Connor Bedard doesnt work out
Almost certain Bedard could score zero points in the NHL this season and the Hawks still don't trade him. Let alone along with two 1st rounders included.
And can't see why the Hawks would have any interest in either of those players from Columbus. Hawks don't make that deal either.

So when exactly are these moves happening? During the season?? Next offseason??? No one is expecting Bedard to single handedly deliver the cup . It’s going to take some time for the team as a whole to develop. Bedard will get way longer rope than most would, also before anyone even considers moving him.
BTW. Lindros was the face of the NHL for a few seasons. Who knows how we would be talking about him, if he didn’t get into concussion problems.

Hawks aren’t paying to bring in Timmins. Is he an upgrade over Zaitsev? Sure is. does he move the needle at all as far as what a rebuilding/developing Hawks team will be? Highly unlikely. So then why give up a pick for him?

It's still a Seth Jones 2.0 trade. I'm not a fan of the Hawks trading assets away at this point in time. I can 100% understand a TOR fan coming on here and being confused by my comment. Nylander is the best player in that trade FOR SURE. It's just not the right direction IMO for the Hawks. Keep the picks. Sign a UFA next year. Trust the process. Don't jump for shiny objects.
And I don't think Nylander signs for $8.8M per.

Consider the needs of the team you are trying to deal with, the Hawks don’t need a goalie, they sure as hell aren’t trading to picks for one.
If you are looking to dump Allen and his $3.8m cap hit for the next two years on Chicago, you will need to send picks with him.

Hawks obviously decline. Why exactly does a team that's just started a rebuild trade a promising prospect and a 2nd for one year of a pending UFA? Makes no sense from Hawks perspective.

I think ya'll are nuts lol. You don't get 2.5M retained + a "significant" package. The hawks are going to need help getting to the floor in each of the next three seasons and won't be a playoff bound team until likely, year 4 or 5 of bedard.
Hawk's fans are insane</div></div>
Everyone said they would have problems getting to the cap floor this year and yet they managed it easily.
Teams need to be prepared to pay the piper or take their cap dumps elsewhere.

2023-24
I'm open to Korch getting some NHL time, but with how much I watched him this past season, he still has a lot to learn defensively. Sure, he may be "too good" for the WHL, but he is also "not good enough" for the NHL, either, and he CAN'T go to the AHL. Going back won't hurt him. There is zero need to rush him, but there is all the need in the world to sort through everyone else we have in the system NOW before he gets to the NHL and takes up a spot that could be used to evaluate other young LHD. Also, both him and Bedard are predicted to be pretty darn good. So why line things up where their next contracts are due at the exact same time? CHI has the benefit, RIGHT NOW, of lining up their financial and development windows in such a convenient way that teams RARELY have the opportunity to do. Why not ease their decision making process, while also not rushing players so early in a rebuild? It's a win win, in my opinion. Send him back to the WHL.

Hawks decline, they don't need a goalie and that pile of junk is not worth $6M in real cash money. Hawks can't buyout Murray because that window is closed.

Hawks intend to have that backup goalie spot be a place where they can get looks at some of their own kids....Soderblom (who most consider a top 10-15 prospect in their system) who has 2 full years of AHL and a year of SHL and needs NHL games to see what they have, Commesso who was a 2nd round pick, and Stauber who was .911 in his cup of coffee in the NHL last season (with a terrible team in front of him). Hawks objective is not winning this season. It is to make sure they get a top 5 pick and audition LHD & goalies to sort through the prospects they have there. DeASmith gets in the way of both of those things...losing and auditioning/developing kids that might be around in 2 or 3 years.

The Hawks have 4 goalies under contract and don't need a 5th. Mrazek & Soderblom are the goalies this year. Kyle from Chicago said he is happy with the goalies we have and is not looking to add another. So DeSmith is a luxury/cap dump.

I mean I get that this site is ACGM and it's fun to play around and try different things but realistically if you're a fan and you're paying attention to the Hawks media then you know they're not making any more moves except signing Kurashev and Bedard. They already have like 15 forwards competing for 13 spots and Phillips, Korchinski, Tinordi, Vlasic, Roos and Kaiser all battling for the 3 LD spots + healthy scratch. So it doesn't make sense to sign random players that just take up ice time from prospects who are ready to take the leap.

Mantha
I heard the price to dump salary (as related to Chicago) has gone up. They are ready to do business but you have to make it worth their while… I’m not sure this trade does enough of that.
I like the 2025 2nd, it’s seems like Davidson has been stockpiling picks in later drafts since the McCabe trade, but I think you need one more quality piece for Chicago to do this. I’m thinking either another 2nd in 2026+ or a prospect equivalent.

Mantha
I read the description and agree. Could be any team with cap space, so I preface with...I'm just going off CHI's history because while I read CHI is a placeholder...it's a likely spot for a dump. Let's just see what it'll cost.
Josh Bailey is the recent comp. There are plenty before him, but recency matters too. JB cost a 2nd round pick to spend $2,333,333M over 2 years. Mantha will cost $6.5M. (assuming the buyout window is closed and can't be reopened with arb filing etc...)
25 points 64 games and 44 points in 74 games the year prior.
27 points in 67 games and 23 in 37 games the prior year. Extrapolated mean 46 points in 74 games.
Over 2 years pretty much the same.
I think this is why he's still with WAS and likely will stay there. I'd agree with the argument that a 28 year old Mantha with something to prove looking for another contract has more motivation than a 33 JB, but motivation and injury history don't link too much.
I'll admit I was previously willing to take the BOS 2025 2nd for Mantha. With how expensive dumps have been lately. I'm now thinking it'll costs (2) 2nds, but it could also be more because there are less teams to available with the cap space to afford to take him on.

There is no way the Hawks are sending anything to Pittsburgh for Granlund, as a matter of fact the Penguins would need to send a significant package to the Hawks in order for them to take on Granlund’s deal.

Yep. I totally got your thinking on the trade. And Brodie is a good player. But the Hawks seem committed to playing at least two if not three of their young LD (Vlasic, Phillips, Roos, Kaiser) this season to see what they have. That's why they didn't qualify Caleb Jones or sign a D man in free agency. That's why I said the Hawks MIGHT be willing to take Brodie, but they wouldn't pay anything for him. If the Leafs are looking for a return on Brodie, probably need to pull him out and deal him elsewhere. Some team will give you a pick, it just won't be the Hawks.

Doesn’t make sense for the Hawks.
Murphy is worth a late 1st or 2nd + on his own. To dump Murray’s contract would cost the Leafs a late 1st. So basically this proposal has the Hawks giving up those two late 1sts plus another 1st and 2nd and then they will have to increase payroll another $9m to resign Nylander… not a good use of assets for a team in the early rebuilding stages.
