Pittsburgh will need to add a lot more to that if San Jose is retaining and taking on Petry and Granlund.

Agreed, but have to move him eventually. Just cannot let him walk for free. This may just be the best offer that comes around. Hopefully not, but who knows.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>I like it but it all starts with Scheifele and Hellebuyck being moved for good young players and Schmidt/Poink being moved for the Chisholm's and Heinola's to play. Agreed. The fans here are a fickle bunch and if the team is not"good" they will stop showing up. That is why I feel like Chevy is handcuffed and cannot make deals for the future. This is a small market, if not the smallest in the league and ownership needs to put people in the seats so that Winnipeg can survive here. I think that is why Scheifele and Helle are still here. Teams don't want to give up on roster players for potential rentals were Winnipeg needs NHL players with team control.

I would have to agree with Windjammer here. How does any of these trades help Winnipeg now or in the future? Vanacek is the only NHL ready player and he is not that good, at best a backup. The futures are decent, but again, Winnipeg doesn't have time to wait, especially when they are giving up a Vezina caliber goalie, a 1C and a top 6 winger. I may be completely wrong, but I personally think this ACGM while a good attempt was made and with good intentions, really puts Winnipeg back even farther. I just don't see a single trade here where Winnipeg doesn't lose big time. The best player in all of these coming to Winnipeg in Firkus and even he is still years away and being a prospect. His ceiling or potential is unknown.

While I agree with what you are saying with the valuation. Vegas is doomed if those are their 2 best prospects. This team needs to manage their picks better.

Rod will drive him crazy because he is a whole load of crap when in the defensive end and does nothing for a centre. Rod already puts up with Necas' crap play iin the Dzone he will not tolerate Sheifele. Schiefele is also a locker room cancer I mean have you seen what Laine said about him? And he will not be playing 3C if he comes here.</div></div>
I don't believe Laine said anything about Sheifele at all. In fact, everything I read is Laine was unhappy because he was not playing with Scheifele on the top line.

Helley
This is a tough one for me. I am a Jets and Devils fan. From a Jets perspective, even at 30, Hellebuyck is still a Vezina finalist goalie the past couple of years. I do believe he has 4-5 good years still left in him and his value should be reflective of that. So as a Jets fan, I would not do this deal as Vanecek holds no value, especially after his playoff performance. Thompson is likely to be a 3rd-4th liner at best. Jets have a ton of those and the picks will be high because New Jersey will probably be cup contenders. So i would ask for a first, a high end prospect especially if we are taking on Vanecek contract and retaining on Hellebuyck.
Now as a Devils fan, I think Schmid is the future goalie of this team within the next year or two. Not sure they need Hellebuyck. In this case I would keep my picks and prospects until the TDL to possibly fill a position of need due to injury or whatever.

In the end what's WPG done, not a whole lot im afraid and all that above not a great look and it potentially is only gonna get worse.
We got cups sure 1967 but hey we got em. WPG is just burning money for the NHL rn and seems to not be a place players want to stay at this rate relocation might be a real possibility. While Toronto is one of the original 6 teams an original franchise who with 5 others helped make the NHL.

You are right, smallest market in Canada, horrible climate, tough to get premiere players to sign or stay. We have an excuse, your team and city just suck year after year after year. Please provide the proof that Buff left because he was in Winnipeg. Guys still has a cabin here, he must really hate this place. We went to the Conference final in 2018 with this bad team. Toronto, was it 93? You have a lot of cups for sure, must have been tough to win with 6 teams. I don't know if that is what i would be proud of.

Would suggest fans do their homework before saying stuff as the older guys the better guy lul. Should see Gio's card it even puts Demelo to shame lul</div></div>
These analytics comparisons on hockey players is ridiculous already. So many factors influence it, but you keep pulling them to try and make your point. If Brodie and Gio are better than Demelo, Leafs should keep them then. Winnipeg would much rather have the cheaper, younger player.

Scheifele and Helle deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Yeah, I just can't follow the logic in the Boston trade.
Hellebuyck in your scenario returns very little because "historically goalies don't go for much", but then somehow an unproven goalie pulls a 1C coming off a 40G season and 6 point per game seasons.
So, the elite goalie returns almost nothing and the unproven one returns a gold mine. Hard to rationalize.</div></div>
One is 30 and one is 25. His career is just starting. Scheifele is also coming up on 30 if he isn't already. Fredrick is a former 1st round pick. So, yes, the goalie still doesn't hold more value than a Center.
I want to belive Helle will get a massive return, historically I just have nothing to base that off of. I think we will all be disappointed. I also don't think the trade deadline will get much. I cannot honestly ever remember a top tier goalie being moved at a deadline.
As a Jets fan, my first hope would be to re-sign both.

Vanecek could be moved to another team. I just don't see a fit for him in Winnipeg. To me he is just another Pavalec.

Scheifele and Helle deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I understand your thinking Cory, but there's just no chance the Jets sell that low on Hellebuyck and Scheifele. They'd be better off just keeping them and letting them walk as UFA's as that has more value to the Jets than the trades.
Also, according to the insiders, Garland is a free asset, so he should not cost even that much. Taking on his contract for free is good value for Vancouver.</div></div>
I hear ya, historically goalies don't go for much.
I think the Jets win in that Scheifele trade. Swayman in a #1 goalie in this league. I think he is all but proven he can take that role. I really like Fredrick, I think he is just the type of player this team needs.
I may be the only one, but I definitely think Garland is a good hockey player. Maybe not a top line guy, but for under 5 mil, he can fit in well on the middle six. Appleton to me is a dime a dozen, Stanley doesn't want to be here, maybe you remove the pick.
