I don’t think NYR fans and fans from other teams will ever agree haha

He has 1st overall pedigree but then again he’s been a disappointment so it’s hard to value

Considering that Kurashev and the Hawks had a hearing yesterday, this is moot.

His skill has been wasted on 3rd line minutes. I don't think NYR is ready to give up on him, but I also can't see him being worth anything more than maybe a 1st and a high end prospect.

The Rangers are NOT looking to trade Laffy. Drury hired a new coaching staff that will hopefully not misuse him and Kakko and they still believe in his potential. Drury likes the kid, believes in him and has no reason to trade him. Therefore, the ONLY way he gets traded is if a team makes an offer that the Rangers couldn't possibly refuse, which means a significant OVERPAY, not whatever you think his "fair" value is. Do you want to significantly overpay for him? Because that's the ONLY way you get him in trade.

You might view him that low but the rangers don’t

This. Kirby Dach had worse numbers his first 3 years in the league, and he got traded for the 13th overall pick last year. That's the floor offer, anything worth less is too little to even consider. But again, it won't happen, Laf fits their window, price range, and the value of a #1OA who just put up 40 points on 3rd line ice time making less than 3M will be too important to them right now to move him.

Not only about performance…it’s also that he is unsigned RFA, who often go for discounts when sold by teams up against the cap…like Buchnevich or Devon Toews. I said the same about Jesper Bratt when there were rumors NJD may trade him last summer.

But if Laf signed an extension…price could rise.

Yea true, but there’s no reason for the rangers to not sign him and no reason to trade him

Hawks won't (or should not) be doing anything remotely resembling this. TRad is on a 750K contract and put up 20 goals last season (in his first real chance at meaningful minutes in the NHL)....that combo of cap hit to production is something that could sniff a late 1st at the TDL. Kurashev is a player capable of playing through out the lineup in all sorts of roles....doubt the Hawks view him as a throw away (kind of wish they could lock him down to a 4 or 5 year deal in hopes of the back end turning into a bargain). Reichel is a 1st that has developed as (or better than) expected with a couple straight seasons of a point a game in the AHl with a cup of coffee of 15 points in 23 games in the NHL last year. Basically....this is asking for 3 1st+ for Laf. I like Laf and think he is primed for a breakout given a little more oppurtunity....but this proposal is WAY to much for a rebuilding team that needs to keep piling up prospects and picks to build a core before they worry about adding a piece like Laf.

He probably won't be traded because the Rangers have no reason to want less than the expected return of a former 1OA especially since they don't want to trade him, and given his disappointing performance, most teams wouldn't be willing to pay that price tag.

The trade would have to be a crazy overpay to get them to budge, what you have now in your proposal has a chance of getting Laf since it really is quite a lot of value, but not guaranteed since if you're not sending a top 6 right winger with upside and low cap (which is smthn they could really use) you're gonna have to give up a lot to gauge Drury's interest.

Give it up already with Laf. Hawks aren't blowing up their rebuild to acquire him. If the Hawks don't offer sheet him, he won't be a Hawk. So to answer your question, a '24 2nd.
