Really? What did you like about him? Other than the skating ability?
I liked him in concept -- right-handed guy with speed who can play center or wing. And I liked when he scored against the Blues when the depleted Sharks lost in the WCF.
What did you notice about his play?

Probably not. He was given plenty of chances last year and did nothing offensively. He seems weak on the boards and doesn't play like a center. He was supposed to be very fast but he just doesn't seem very talented. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs.

Depends on how much DW likes Strome and Geogriev. If Geogriev is actually going to be an NHL starting goalie and Strome isn't a one-hit wonder, then this is great for the Sharks. Maybe it's the Tampa 1st and Col's 2nd instead of the high SJ 2nd, but if those two players play to their potential then this is a great trade for us.
Two of the Sharks biggest needs are a good-skating, right-handed offensive catalyst and a new goalie. This trade should solve those. Sign me up.

SJ gets:
Strome, Howden, BUF '21 3rd and OTT '21 4th
NYR gets:
True, Gambrell, SJ '20 2nd
What the "fellow" NYR fans he won't tell you is that your proposal is an overpayment. Howden fits the current system much better than True; the depth of this draft affords both teams the means to move the deck chairs around. Strome can balance the lineup for the Sharks, while the two young centers fulfill the Rangers' alignment.
The Rangers focus in the draft will be on wing depth and right-handed shooting defense. Thus, NHL-ready centers for their bottom six, is the best return in a trade, if Strome isn't being dealt for a more significant return.</div></div>
I don't know much about Howden, but I (not that my opinion matters to NHL GMs) am set on bringing in someone who can provide immediate offensive improvement at RW.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RawZuccSauce420</b></div><div>After giving it a lot of thought and seeing tons of Strome trades, I'm just gonna say I really don't want him. He's decent and had a bounce back year, but he's overhyped because most of his points came from guys like Panarin and Zibanejad, and he's inevitably going to get overpaid and end up a 30-40 point guy which (in my opinion) isn't worth giving up that first for. I just don't love him as a player, and personally wouldn't trade for him if asked to give up that much.</div></div>
But if he plays with Couture/Meier or Hertl/Kane maybe he can still provide high-level production. I just worry the Sharks won't be able to add a significant contributor who is right-handed, not old, and a good skater who won't cost more than $6 mil.
Who are some guys who you think the Sharks could get in the same price (salary and trade) range? Maybe Palmieri?

Y'all really should end up with three, because if you're trading Strome and Georgiev, those are both at least 2nds right? Maybe 1sts, particularly in this case.
Be wary though, Boston had three, back-to-back 1sts in 2015 (13-15) and got Debrusk but took two nobodies -- the next three picks were Barzal, Conner and Chabot.

I think the east coasters also don't really know that much about Vlasic. For a decade he was this underrated shutdown defenseman who no one knew because he played on the west coast and never put up points or made highlights. He was incredibly consistent and reliable. In the last two years, he hasn't been that, but he's not a bad defenseman. His contract is bad, but he's still a useful stay at home blueliner. From every single thing I've read about Jack Johnson, it sounds like he really sucks. Vlasic would be a definite upgrade and the Pens would get picks back in exchange for taking on the extra salary and years.

I don't know why so many fans on here are convinced Strome is getting traded but I'm all for it if he goes to the Sharks. Doug Wilson probably wants to trade the TB 1st for a new forward, and Strome is young, can skate, score and be a playmaker. He checks all the boxes and won't be as expensive as most other options.
With the Murray deal, I threw Edmond on there but that could be any goalie prospect (Shortridge, Korener, etc.). I'm figuring that fair for Pitt to take on the Vlasic contract and get a better player than Johnson who is on a shorter and cheaper but still bad deal.
The Penguins can't realistically keep Jarry and Murray, this way they get a goalie prospect and picks. They also get to upgrade from Johnson to Vlasic, which will cost them money, but again, more picks. Maybe the Sharks throw another prospect in or something.

@ all of you,
Burns is a defensive liability. He turns the puck over a lot, and he had a rough year.
But don't forget he won the Norris just a few years ago and he was second in the voting for last year. He has declined, but he's still going to be an offensive threat for next year and more.
Also, don't forget that his 45 points (lowest point total since 2012-13 when he was hurt and played just 30 games) would be tied for the team-high on the Coyotes this year...

He occasionally will fill in at center but he's not a center. When he came up to the NHL level, he was a third liner, similar to Chris Tierney but developed a scoring touch that made him a top-6 forward. Eventually, he became a first-line forward on the Sharks who already had Joe Thornton and later Logan Couture. He's better suited as a scoring winger who can, albeit slower, play a two-way game.

Well not perfect but prototypical. Gives you everything youd want in a third liner. Will drop the gloves if pushed.</div></div>
I'm a lot lower on Sorenson than you. He has speed, but he's pretty small and gets pushed off pucks fairly easily. He did put up 17 with Jumbo and Labanc, but that was the year before this disaster of a season. He seems to get himself (or is set up) in positions to score but just doesn't convert opportunities. He gets breakaways but has essentially zero playmaking ability as a passer.
He's fine defensively and could replace Melker on the PK if they keep him, but I'd rather they trade him and his $1.5 mil cap hit and get a pick back while signing a FA for $1 mil to fill the role.
Although not the same kind of player, production-wise, he's a Donskoi with noticeably less puck skill. All that considered, he's a useful bottom-6 wing who has already reached his ceiling.

I like the idea of adding 3-4 players for lower contracts and smaller trades, rather than cashing out for Tofolli or Dadonov. I don't know if Galchenyuk is the right fit, but this would give the Sharks more flexibility AND allow them to draft two high prospects.
I'm seeing Händemark frequently listed as the 4th line center for next year on this site, is he really the next man up?
I don't know much about him, can y'all give me a quick scouting report?

Ugh. Well, Bjugstad would definitely be a help as a third-line center. So with Bjugstad and Johnson ($4.1 and $3.25 mil) is about the same as Vlasic and True ($7 and <$1 mil) money wise, that's a fairly even trade on its own, right? Plus, it costs the Sharks less in the long run, and I think the swap of a high 2nd rounder for a legitimate NHL goalie who is just 26 is great for the Sharks. Obviously depends on how much money Murray wants though.

What would it take
I'm curious who you or anyone else thinks the Sharks could sign to be a top-6 winger for $3.5 mil/year. Hall, Tofolli, Hoffman and Dadonov will all get way more than that. Soderberg is old and made close to $5 mil. Maybe Brassard, but he won't fill the need of top-6 winger. Ennis had a good year, maybe him at that 3.5 price but he's 30 and would be risky given his historical production. He's also left-handed and the Sharks really need a right-handed shot upfront.
Galchenyuk or Granlund are other options and are coming off down seasons, but made well more than $3.5 mil/year, and again, are left-handed.
Namesticknov and Smith are possibilities but they each made more than $4 mil/year on their last contracts so I doubt they would take at least $500k less. Would love for Smith to sign, depending on price.
After them, you're stretching the "top-6" label, maybe Wayne Simmons can turn back the clock? Maybe Jespar Fast is good enough to play on the second line? Maybe taking a flyer on Erik Haula (lefty)?
There are several good-skating bottom-6 wingers who may fit, but unfortunately, DW will probably have to trade to find a true top-6 RW.

Just because he wasn't scoring bardown clappers every game doesn't mean he doesn't have a good shot. I saw him get shots through just as often if not more consistently than anyone else on the blue line. Lot of rebounds and tips created for that reason. I'm not saying hes a top 4 defensman, but he's worthy of a spot over Middleton. And even if he apparently isn't he should get more games than he was given this year.
He's not that small either. 6'0", 186 is pretty standard for an NHL player.</div></div>
186 lbs is small for a defenseman and he's 29. Middleton is 24 with good size and is a decent skater. On a team with EK65 and Burns (with Merkley on the way), it makes more sense to give opportunities to a younger, more defensive-minded guy, particularly one who can use size near the net -- especially with Dillon no longer on the team.
I'm not saying the guy needs to be scoring a bunch but the guy had four points playing nearly half the season. If I remember correctly, his SAT stats were good, but I'd rather see someone else in the third pairing. I think Heed is best as a fill-in, 7th defenseman on an 800k/year deal.
