Soup
I think absorbing Soupy's contract to get some very valuable pieces like Holloway, Bourgault or a 1st round pick is an idea to be considered but it won't happen if we send back capdumps ourselves like Armia or Allen. With this proposition, savings from EDM side does not justify giving up on this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joey_1</b></div><div>What's ur lineup if Petry stays?</div></div>
Its not gonna happen but I would like
Caufield Suzuki RHP
Slafkovsky Dach Anderson
Newhook Monahan Gallagher
Evans Dvorak Ylonen or Armia
Matheson Savard
Guhle Petry
Xhekaj Harris
As for Dach, faceoffs are an issue but he wont learn it on the wing and everything else a center have to do, he did it well without suzuki at the end of the year. We need him to develop as a good C if we want to be relevant soon and if we draft a high caliber one next year, than he could be moved to the wing once that guy is NHL ready. Thats my 2 cents but your opinion is as good as mine!

Would you give up Slafkovsky for Braden Schneider, Jimmy Vesey, 2x2nd and a 7th? That is close to what you just did there...

Caufield plays offwing.
Gallagher cannot handle top 6 duty anymore, both for icetime and production.
That 3rd line would never work, the three of them need playmakers.
Dont think Matheson playing top pair minutes on his unatural side is a good idea.
Savard won't be scratched.
Petry is gone before october.
Edit: and I do think that the plan is really to develop Dach as a solid 2C. He did very well at the end of last season before the injury.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoachCoach</b></div><div>As the team is currently constructed, the Wings are projected anywhere from 7th up to 5th in the Atlantic. Adding Petry doesn’t change that. They could have a NJD come from nowhere season, but I wouldn’t call it likely or probable.
Prior to Holl and Ghost signings there was a possibility, but now there is no room. This season will most likely be the last before some of the kids are regulars, and Ghost is the Wing mercenary that hopefully does well on the PP and gets dealt at the deadline.
Johansson and Wallinder both could get some time as they do play the right side (WW frequently) after the deadline, and going in to next year Petry would just block the youth movement.</div></div>
That's good insight. I stand by my opinion that Petry at 2.3ishM AAV could fetch a 2nd tho. Maybe not with the wings but somewhere else with a good 20 something games into the season.

Maybe Petry is not a target but you are a better team with him on the top 4 than with Holl or Ghost. Anyway my comment was more to point out that this kind of return is not that crazy.

Pittsburgh retained 25%. So we have him a 4.7M right now. We can retain 50% of that, so the team who gets him will pay him 2.3ish a year. Its cheaper than Holl of Ghost AAV. Where is my math wrong?

Why the sass? You get him at 2.3M for 2 years. He plays 20+ minutes a night and he can help on the PP if needed. Justin Holl and Ghost are projecting to be in your top 6 on the right, Petry is a better player than both even at 35 and he cost less that both too with the retention.

Cup run
As a habs fan, we could not refused this trade because of the unfullfield Laff potential. As of right now it is a big underpayment to get a 22 years old 1st overall pick.
That being said, and I will sound delusional for most people but, I do think that the chances are not that slim that RHP will have a better career than Laffy and we lose this trade 5 years from now.
Anyway, that trade would never happen because anybody would do it without blinking an eye and is very unfair right now for NYR valuewise. If this was the cost to get Laff l, he would be gone already ny now and since a long time ago...

Lineup and point prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>Which other ones are particularly high or low?</div></div>
Dach goals and points are high (if he doesn't play with 22 and 14).
RHP goals and points are high (he won't have the same opportunities with a healthy team).
Anderson and Gallagher goals are high (I see 20 or 22 for Andy and Gally will barely surpass 10).
Matheson projection is a stretch. Yes he put up those numbers last years but I dont think he can sustain it in a full season.
Harris (I know its your breakout guy) but I just dont see it happening. Too much talent on the left with Matheson Guhle and Xhekaj. I think he's the odd man out unless someone plays off side.

Guhle had more than half those points in only 44games, unless you projected he'll miss a lot of games again, I think he can absolutly put up 35+.With a PP spot I predict 10g 38pts.
The rest is pretty good while being a little optimistic!

Heineman's last camp and AHL games showed he at least deserves a shot. Maybe not on opening night but I would bet he plays in the NHL at some point this season.
Ylonen is ok but Pezzetta or even Heineman bring more things we lack in the lineup IMO

TRADE PLD PLEASE
We have to stop with the PLD trades guys, it's not going to happen. Aarpon Basu from TheAthletic just said he changed his mind about wanting to go only to MTL and he decided to give the jets a couple of teams he would like to sign with to help the them get a good return.
We dont have the leverage anymore and mediocre offers wont beat the ones from others teams on his list.
Also, every offer I see in here seem to forget what the jets wants, it is documented that they dont want to go into a full rebuild and are looking at good roster players as a return. Dvorak and Harris somehow fit the description but they dont hold much value.
The only player I can see bring back PLD is Dach and it's not going to happen.

Dach was traded for 13overall coming out of a very slow career start. He had his best season with us and hes signed under 4M for 3 more years, wich looks to be a bargain pretty soon.
As for the C, position with or without Dubois, there is absolutly no problem. Both Monahan and Dach played wing last year and Dach was very good with Suzuki and Caufield.
You never have to much center depth. Dvorak can also be moved to the wing if not traded, hes not part of the future anyway.
Last thing, the PLD drama is pretty much over IMO, with his 5-6 teams list, MTL lost a lot of leverage. Pretty sure the Monahan signing indicate that trade talks are dead. And if not, Dvo will be in the package to make the money work. Yes his value is very low but its not negative either. Hes a reliable 3C under 5M for only 2 more years. Slightly overpaid but he's at least worth 3M AAV.

Forget about it, Xhekaj is off the table espically for moving up 9 spot.
Not even talking about market value but inside the organization he holds a role no one can replace and therefore is much more valuable than anything we can get for him trade wise.
The way this draft is projected, the différence between players we can get at 31 vs 22 is not worth it by a large margin.

That kind of PLD offer was legit not long ago when the rumors were that it was Montreal or nothing but now that he submitted a list of 5-6 teams he would sign an extension (rumored to be: LA, MIN, MTL, NYR, COL, TBL), you have to beat the best offer from at least one of them.
If true, some of them dont even have the cap space but some of them do and have much more valuable assets. 31st overall and Harris won't cut it.
As for Edmundson, we (habs fan) have to accept that his history of injuries and his bad play since 2 years are now bigger than his playoff reputation from 2018 to 2021. Until proven healthy and capable, his value is close to negative right now.

Number 5 pick for a number 1 pick
All of the top 5 players in this draft would be 1st over Laf in 2020.
I would even say no teams in the top 10 would trade their picks for him. He's a good player and I dont want to diminish him but his progression since drafted does not jutsify that kind of gamble. We got Dach for 13th overall and late picks and he has basically the same kind of progression since drafted while playing in a premium position.
Speaking of Dach, he's already not that far from PLD, younger, cheaper for at least 3 years. Im not saying it would not take that kind of offer to snatch PLD but it would be such a dumb move. Chances are Dach at 25 years old will be as productive and even if not, he's more reliable overall.
I wouldnt even do a 1v1 PLD-Dach trade for those reasons even if PLD is more valuable right now.
Oh and I like Barbashev, Hathaway and Soucy as UFA targets but its not yet the time to spend that kind of money and term commitment in our rebuild

Thoughts
As a habs fan, I couldnt hate this more but I think you nailed the first 9 picks! I see it go exactly that way
BUT, I also think you completly missed the next 10 picks haha.
Pellikka, Ritchie, Simashev and Draigcevic wont go before Dvorsky, Moore, Perrault, Barlow.
I wont go into details but overall, the first group of 4 I juste mention have so much more question marks than the second group and thats why I think most of them will fall deeper than expected.
Dvorsky, Perrault, Moore and Barlow also have a lot of questions marks but most of them have more than one prime attributes scouts are looking for!
Side notes:
Not having Yager in the top 20 is crazy.
Gauthier will go 1st round
Nate Danielson is a gem and his complete package tool will make him a top 15 pick.
I say all that in all modesty, your point of view is as good as mine but those are my toughts!
