Thoughts on this canes offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>KK's not been unlucky for 6 years. He's been unlucky for 6 months. maybe he was lucky last year. it is in a way the outlier.
maybe he is more of a 3c in the end.

If this isn’t the year then I’m not sure when it is. This is probably the strongest roster we’ll have for a while

Drury is a depth player?
Yikes.

Canes scary good if upgrade 2C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Kotkaniemi was fine at 2C last year, don't need Lindholm, who I've argued before is not an upgrade. He's a 60 point 2C, which is fine, but Kotkaniemi was on a 60 point pace in the New Year. No reason to lose all these assets for production that's already on the roster. It makes more sense to keep Pesce and target Backlund for 3C, pushing the Martinook - Staal - Fast line down to the 4th.</div></div>
So with lindholm we look at his whole career, but with kotkaniemi we cherry pick 47 of 319 games
BTW, lindholm is a 73 points per 82 games the last 3 years, kotkaniemi is 37. Half the production while making more money :tearsofjoy

Canes side of a pesce Nylander deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DarthCane</b></div><div>Honestly not sure if Canes are better with Nylander but without Pesce. Maybe, but not sure it's worth the risk. It could work with the right UFA pick up, but Vatanen is not the answer unless he's playing a 3rd line role. The combination of Skjei, Vatanen, Fleury, and Gardiner is not a good mix for bottom 4 blueline. Canes already gave up some of the worst rates of high danger shots in the NHL last season. This blueline would be even lighter on D, especially without a player like Pesce, who makes anyone with him better.
I would do the Kuemper trade. It would be really hard for Canes to let go of that #1 pick, but if they want to win a cup within the next 4 years, this is the right move.</div></div>
Agree on all of that 100%. I’m not really sure I’m in favor of the pesce Nylander trade either I jsut wanted to see what it would look like. I don’t think vatanen is the answer either but he is a guy the organization is familiar with. I disagree with ur assessment that he is only a third pairing guy, but I think the canes would be better served with a more defensive guy

Various ways to trade Nino Gardiner Dzingel
So I know not alot of my Detroit brothers are going to disagree but I think gardiner could go to Detroit. We have zero offense on the left and a guy who gets hurt way to much. Carolina is going to have to give a bit a 2nd rounder or someone like foegele maybe.

Various ways to trade Nino Gardiner Dzingel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Kings aren't paying a third to take Gardiner(for three years) for Bokk. Every team is up against the cap and only a few teams have the space to take something bad for a year let alone several, payment will need to be steep.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DarthCane</b></div><div>Yeah, that's definitely going to be an issue this year. Bokk is in the top tier of Canes prospects, and it was hard to add him to sweeten the deal. I thought Kings might be interested because of Bokk, but also because Gardiner could help with their PP.</div></div>
Gardiner’s contract isn’t such an albatross that the Kings need heavy overpayment to take him, but it’s more along the lines of him not being the guy the Kings are looking for. Kings are looking for a DFD, since they’ve already got the OFD in Doughty. I like Bokk, and certainly would be interested in getting him if the Kings were to package him with Gardiner. There’s several options the Kings would look at beforehand, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t at least circle back to something like this if the other deals fell through.
If the Kings were to acquire Gardiner, he’s a player the Kings could simply leave unprotected for Seattle, since it’s looking like they’ll be leaving guys like Grundstrom unprotected as well, as well as the concern with getting MacDermid games for exposure disperses. Play him on the second pairing with Walker, bump Anderson to the third pairing.

Various ways to trade Nino Gardiner Dzingel
If Skjei could bring his game back from a few years ago this would be a slam dunk for the Jets, but if he falls flat man that contract would suck. The 13oa is nice as it could be Mercer, Jarvis or Schneider.

I think it’s more likely the canes move Skjei than Gardiner. Dzingle is definitely the most likely to be moved, I’d imagine we could pretty easily flip him for like 3rd. Nino I would be ok to hold on to for this season and have him in the middle 6. He would need to be moved next offseason which would be much easier especially if he has a good year

I think this is one of the few circumstances under which Arizona would trade Kuemper. But I think you'd only have to give them the first three elements.

Canes trade with Jets and Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DarthCane</b></div><div>You're not wrong that Canes overpaid for Skjei at the deadline. I don't think Canes would do a 1st, but maybe a 2nd (they have 2 this year). I think if Jets just want a mid level prospect, Canes might throw it one in - they've shown a willingness to do that recently. As long as it's not one of their top 5. Your counter proposal isn't as crazy as it seemed to me at first.</div></div>
I mean Ehlers is just a really underrated player its going to take a ton to get him

Yes. Skjei doesnt have a ton of value nor does Dzingle. I like Skjei but i think the canes overpaid for him because of the pressure at the deadline. Ehlers is a true top line winger. I think a package like Skjei, Dzingle, 2021 first may get it done. The prospect if needed would be a B level prospect likely

Murray is way too inconsistent to be a center piece for Pesce. We have other McCann-espque players.

Leafs 2021
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DarthCane</b></div><div>Anderson for Mrazek is a sort of even trade if you did that alone. They have similar stats overall in past couple years and both in final year of contract.
Pesce gets put on trade talk a lot. But the reason is because we all know that his contract has ridiculous value (same for Slavin). It's not that Pesce is a top 10 blueliner in NHL, but that that value of talent/dollar in his contract is easily in the top 3 for blueliners who are not on entry level deals. In a cap constrained world, these value contracts are especially important for players who are top 6 forwards or top 4 dmen.
That's why a team would have to really overpay for Pesce because they aren't just getting his talent level, they are getting this really affordable contract both in dollars and years. Personally, I think Canes would be crazy to trade him until he's down to one year remaining on his current contract.</div></div>

But that's why he's going to be valuable to Canes because they have a lot of salary tied up in the blueline - and he's playing his best hockey. I think one of Gardiner or Skjei is likely to be traded. I think it's Gardiner, because he just didn't fit with Canes faster tempo. But Skjei may get Canes a bigger return in a trade, so that could be a factor too.</div></div>
Thing is Vegas will be pressed for cap too. Can’t really afford to add either of those cap hits

I would personally like to see nino-aho-dzingel svech-staal-teuvo foegele-haula-necas mcginn-wallmark-martinook. Based on what I've seen, Dzingel and Nino are pretty invisible if they don't have an elite center whereas svech and teuvo have proven that they can produce offensively without aho. Staal and Haula are interchangeable in the lineup I created.
