Dillon is probably worth a second +, I don't think that trade is unreasonable.

Detroit isn't trading that for Scheifele. We would likely do that Pionk trade though.

i think it's definitely fair because i hate it but i can't really build a strong argument against it. i want more trades like this in the NHL but not when it's trading the guys i'm attached to!
that being said, I think both GMs chicken out on this deal.

Sorry about that, my bad. I didn't realize that they already offered him a contract extension and that he let it be known that he wanted to stay.

Culture Reset
I’m going to disagree with just about everyone here and I think you’ve done pretty good overall. Rangers would need to bring cap back to Wpg in the offer but the rest of them are pretty fair contrary to opinion. 7th pick is great, but it’s not a gold mine value, a strong RD who had a down yr, I do think Vesalainen would need to be upgraded in the trade a little bit and a 2nd rd pick. Looking at past first rd draft choice trades such as Arz getting 9, Risto trade, Stepan to Arz for a t10 pick, etc.

Fast Rebuild
Isles say no. Scheifele probably mirrors Barzal's production in the Islanders' system, so the Isles get an older player with rumored locker room issues and they have to give up a 2nd? No thanks.
The best-case scenario on Dillon's return is getting back what you put in with two 2nds. No one is giving up a 1st for that guy.
You might be able to tempt Montreal with that deal but it's more likely they give you Calgary's 1st than the 2nd overall pick. The last time someone gave up the 2nd overall pick, it was Mike Milbury making the trade - and Kent Hughes has not given me any sort of Milbury vibes yet.
I'd honestly say Pionk doesn't make a ton of sense for Ottawa. They already have 3 guys signed to play RD next year, and while it's not exactly a murderer's row (Zub/Hamonic/MDZ) their top 2 prospects on defense are both RD. Pionk isn't the worst guy to trade, but I think Ottawa would rather just hang on to 8th overall and see how Lassi Thomson and Jacob Bernard-Docker develop.
I think it's more likely that Logan Stanley brings back a 3rd or gets traded for a "change of scenery" type player.
Edmonton deal is interesting but kind of spits in the eye of your "fast rebuild" though. Going into next season with a Skinner/Comrie tandem is basically going in with 2 guys who haven't proven themselves to be starters, and I think the potential for the bottom falling out of this team would be huge, especially with no strong goalie prospects in the system.

TDL and Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>Dillon has been great for us, no sense in moving him. Also, Wheeler isn't going anywhere. Not sure why so many people are quick to get rid of him this year. He hasn't been anywhere near as bad as what people are saying. 20pts in 28 games, he can still produce.</div></div>
Dillon hasn't been bad at all. I think the point is that the Left D is really crowded with him, JMo, Stanley, Samberg and Heinola all looking for NHL minutes. Dillon isn't the problem but from a cap perspective he would make sense to move to open up a spot for Samberg/Heinola. Really we could trade Dillon and one of Stanley/Samberg/Heinola because we still have Chisholm that is looking really promising.
We gave up 2 - 2nds for him but the kids are ready so we should re-coup those picks.

Major Long Term Issues
I have the complete opposite take. I think Winnipeg has a lot of core/top talent locked up long term and excellent deals. Yes there are some areas to be addressed this off season in D and 2C but are both very solvable problems through Free Agency or via trade. Scheifele will be a Jet forever and Laine will not be moved this off season.

I think we know that Copp is a reliable defensive player who is versatile and has shown some scoring touch. I think his ceiling might be a bit higher though. Ive said this before on this site, but Copp and Roslovic should've spent their summer hanging out in Finland and Denmark with Laine and Ehlers. If one of these C's can develope legit chemistry with Laine it would be a game changer for the jets. No more "looking' fora 2C at the deadline and giving up your first rounder

Sadly there's some Jets fans that'd likely want to do just that. Was reading a Winnipeg Free Press article online shortly before free agency, the love affair with and importance of signing one Brandon Tanev was frequently mentioned from most commenters there, and this is a fanbase that thinks it's knowledgeable about hockey.. ??

Jets fan here. Vesalainene has potential to be better than Connor and I don’t know where you info is coming from. Niku could develop into a fine top 4 guy but heinola could become a top pairing guy with a little work on skating
I would rank my list
Vesalainen
Niku
Heinola
Samberg
Appleton

If they thought he was the best available then again a bust based on them saying "Has upside to be one of the best Wingers in the League" not exactly that happening now. The older he gets the lower his value becomes, and with how he has played lately of being the offensive powerhouse as so named it's not looking to good for him, and considering a lot of the guys named are doing well respectively in their own leagues. As some have even done better than Vesalainen did on Moose, and that's actually a lot of them.</div></div>
He played 22 games and
Add 13 point at 19 year old that not bad! And 17 point in 30 game in the khl is very good! All those player you mentionned play in junior. He play with man all year long. That doesnt make sense saying that he is a bust. All scouts around the league will told you that take
About 3-5 years to develop players. You can tell who is a bust and who is not because there 5 players that played a full season in nhl. Micheal mccarone is a bust tyler biggs. Wait until he add play 3 season professional before. After that spend, the portraits is clear

They drafted the best player they thought was available! I GAURANTEE there was no comparison to or expectation that he would be better than Connor or Ehlers. They want him to be the best player he can be. If he can snipe 20 from the wing on the 3rd line (which I believe he absolutely can), great pick! I’m very excited to watch him develop.

That's definitely what they made him out to be this better than Kyle Connor, and Nikolaj Ehlers player that has a consistent offensive production that could be Middle 6 at best, and that's just being Generous and not mentioning that he was even worse performance in playoffs with 1 point in 6 games.........</div></div>
Easy big fella! First off, KHL is a VERY defensive league. 17 points in 31 games for a 19 yr old is actually pretty good. Yes, the kid should’ve stayed with the Moose, he knows it. Came back to Winnipeg at end of year with a good attitude and absolutely sees that he has a HUGE opportunity in front of him this year. Did you always make the best decisions when you were 19? I didn’t! He is a Solid, control the puck down low player, laser beam shot, uses his size well, magnificent skater, very intelligent. No one said he would be better than Connor or Ehlers! Don’t be so hard on the kid. Certainly not a bust!

The miller trade is not needed as vesalainen will be up with the big club next year.
Little is still good, he just doesn't have the right wingers for his style of play, don't buy him out.
The last two trades are just a bad idea. Comrie can play the same role as stalock next year. Roslovic has2C potential. We will keep him.
You sold connor too short he will command more. I do not think that FLA will move Trochek. Go for their first and Hoffman instead. He can play on the 1st line or 2nd line (depending on where connor plays) and little can play on a line where it is proven to be good with connor and ehlers. We can then also get a 1st which we can trade down or get an impact player. Roslovic can play 3C with copp and laine on his wings. Give lowry the young power forwards in Appleton and vesalainen and watch the magic.
I suggest lines:
Hoffman - Scheifele - Wheeler
Connor - Little - Ehlers (proven)
Copp - Roslovic - Laine (Copp - Laine is proven and Copp - Roslovic is proven)
Vesa - Lowry - Appleton
Because you did too much, you have lost key present and future core players like ehlers, Niku, comrie, etc. Do less, keep your talent</div></div>
