Severson trade offers

Severson most definitely gets a 1st rounder.
Using comps...(and I owe devil a post soon on Severson trade comps)....only helps argument that he'd get a 1st.
Thing is, I don't think NJD would look for picks in return.
I could see a younger forward with term maybe as the main piece in return</div></div>
Thanks for doing the heavy lifting on the explanation and examples on why Severson probably fetch’s a first

Severson trade offers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>a1979</b></div><div>Devon Toews got two 2nd round picks (I know the Isles were in a cap crunch, but still), so there is no way Severson is fetching any team's top prospect(s)...especially considering he's UFA next summer and ultimately not all that great defensively.</div></div>
Ben chariot got a first plus and lindholm got a massive haul, Muzzin got a first and durzi. Toews was a steal in the eyes of most but has been preforming far better than the islanders anticipated. Severson is a RHD which isn’t an easy asset to get. Weegar Dumba Orlov and Dumoulin will most likely not be available. And retained Severson can be in the 2 millions when klingberg is 1.5 million more. Supply and Demand has a say in trade value

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>You can’t seriously compare Bratt to Huberdeau and Severson to Weegar…</div></div>
Bratt has control also almost 5 years younger than huberdeau. Severson is a RHD that is the same age as Weegar and put up a few more points this year on a far worse squad. Connor is a phenomenal player but I’d say he’s just a small tier below Tkachuk on what he brings to a team. Also Tkachuk at 8 years of control is a whole lot nicer then walking Connor into free agency
Bratt put up better numbers than huberdeau did in his age 24 season aswell

Yet to hear good reason for NJD to break historical norms and trade 2nd pick
I like the Arizona trade. If they’re making it very clear they want Cooley then they are probably willing to secure that. Whether it’s any of their later picks the devils should entertain a swap. I can see it being their last second round pick. The two 2nds can be great to package or grab two prospects that can bolster their prospect pool one last time.
With the goaltending talks I really think Knight is the guy to make calls about even if it has to wait a year. His situation is fascinating as it all hangs in the balance of Bobrovsky’s NMC. I’d imagine the devils will WAY rather go after him than a netminder that’s nearing their thirties

Smart offer sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jnowariak</b></div><div>Sammy Blais is not a smart offer sheet. I’m sorry.</div></div>
It can be a gamble worth taking. Fitzgerald talks about grit and size and that’s what he has. I meant to have the devils resign wood. So the 4th line could wood blais and/ or bastian who all pray with grit and aren’t aging out like Reaves and deslauriers. A third might be a bit of an overpay but not by much and if he’s healthy there can be a chance he has a solid year

Smart offer sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>Why exactly would OSing Blais be good? Not even leaving a spot for Holtz?</div></div>
I would imagine the devils want Holtz to play with Bratt and Hischier but it’s something he needs to earn. If he does I can see them moving Tatar to the third line and blais to the 4th. Blais would move to the third line the following year
