Unrealistic but new thought

Two bad playoffs. Was horrendous last year. Scores one OT goal and everyone forgets that he was a no-show the rest of the time. I think he's impossible to trade but I haven't been loving him in the playoffs.

Why, it's not like he was a game-changer. He had a good first half and was incredibly meh after that.

He had a great first half, a meh second half, and a forgettable playoff. I think he's priced himself out. He probably deserves about 4 mil and I don't know if the Rangers can afford that.

I think the move is to trade one of them. If I'm the Rangers I'm giving up someone for Ehlers from the Jets. Not seeing a lot of the Rangers community wanting to do that though.

building a team the right way around igor
I don't hate this, but the Rangers aren't signing Gavrikov. Jones, Hajek, Robertson, or Harpur will be given that spot. Also like someone said you need cap space for scratches. I also think an important part of building a team around Igor is having a capable backup so you don't have to play him 70 games a year. Don't know if Rittich really fits that mold. Also maybe Lafreniere can adjust to playing the right side, but he definitely had a tough time with it this year.

Sweenius stays competitive
I personally think you're better off keeping Hall and not signing 4th liner Miles Wood to a contract like that but hey that's just me. Also if the Bruins trade for Turcotte it's because they're going to play him in the NHL. ALSO you can't really afford Severson given that you only have one scratch and need two more.

Habs Acquire LAF
Rangers don't need a defenseman. They need a RW. Also, if Lafreniere could play the right side well, he would've been off that third line eons ago.

What I Would Do
Goodrow isn't leaving. No team wants to help the Rangers. The only plausible team I see is Buffalo, but as a locker room guy and a playoff performer, the Rangers aren't getting rid of him, even if he is paid too much. You can overrate playoff experience all you want, but the 4th line was our best line for the majority of the series. They should do everything in their power to keep that line together.
The obvious casualty is Miller. He hasn't been fantastic, and he's an athletic freak, but he is going to price himself out. We have Lindgren, Jones, Robertson, Hajek, and Harpur, and the Rangers are just going to have to get by on those five guys.
You're not bringing in Othmann to play him on his weak side. You're asking for another development disaster. If Othmann impresses, my guess is this is the offseason Lafreniere leaves. If Lafreniere shows improvement on the right side, Kakko will most likely go.
Tarasenko and Kane aren't coming back. Nor should they. The Devils were faster. That was the only difference. Faster to pucks, faster on the rush, just plain faster. Bring in some unproven talent and bring in some speed. Not aging veterans, even if they performed fairly well. Here's how I see it shaking out:
Kreider - Zibanejad - new RW
Panarin - Trocheck - cheap RW, Gurianov type probably
Othmann - Chytil - Kakko/Laffy
Motte - Goodrow - Vesey
Lindgren - Fox
Jones - Trouba
Robertson/Hajek/Harpur - Schneider
Shesterkin
Hopefully Halak but if not enough money Domingue I guess.

Keep the defense mostly intact and add young talent
I think they give McMichael one more year before Washington considers trading him. I'm unsure about Foote, I would lean more towards them trading Barrie since it seems Nashville is going through a bit of a retool, and it doesn't hurt to keep a young defenseman.

Flyers Re-Tool
All four of these trades are a no. Toronto wouldn't give up Knies for Chychrun, but they're going to give him up for an aging middle-six winger and a replacement level defenseman? Konecny has had a great year, but Minnesota will not give up their best defensive prospect, a former top 10 pick and more for him. That Nemec trade is just ridiculous, why on earth would they give up last year's second overall pick for a horrible contract and another defenseman who is just not that good. The Rangers just do not have the money for Couturier nor the roster space. These are all terrible trades.

There is quite literally zero reason San Jose would do this.
Edit: totally misread the trade I thought you were getting a first. Sorry.

Kuznetsov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>This won’t work as teams carry 23 man rosters not 21</div></div>
It's possible Lehner doesn't return, in which case they would have the space to afford it. You also accrue cap space throughout the year, as well as Henderson being really close to Vegas, so moving players to and from shouldn't be that big of a challenge. Also, it's Vegas, so someone will probably be on LTIR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>capsfan2121</b></div><div>Capitals decline</div></div>
Kuznetsov was not great this year, and the Capitals don't seem to have a ton of leverage here, especially since so few teams can afford him. What else would you want?

I think I heard it on 32 Thoughts, but I'm not positive. As I said in the description, I'm thinking any young forward needing a change of scenery that will be cheap.

Trying to Make Everything Work
Sharks aren't close to contending, why do they give up a first that's likely going to be top 10? Also Ullmark is playing behind what is probably the league's best defense, at the very least top 5. It would make it so Boston's ask would be too high for teams to take a risk on. Seems more likely that Boston trades Swayman. Then again, Chicago is so clearly deliberately tanking, yet trades a first round pick for a 3rd line center? A) I think Coyle would be the #1 center on that team and B) makes no sense for a rebuilding team.
