Drouin still could have the potential to be as good as Burakovsky, but I'm not sure he his ceiling is any higher than that. So that trade would be an easy loss for the Avs. Drouin also reportedly has had some issues with stress on the big stage (not sure the validity of this though). If it is true, putting Drouin on the first line, ahead of Landeskog, on a team who has to prove something in the playoffs, may be a bit much for him.</div></div>
Right which is why a second is in place for a 3rd and Burakovsky is on an expiring deal this year which if he plays with the top line will score heavily and ask for a raise the Avs wouldn’t be willing to give him

Just another scenario
Mete is gonna play. Idk which of MDZ/Holden/Brown sits (definitely not the one they just signed 2×2), but Mete will be a regular. For what it's worth, Garrioch mentioned in his article about the signing that the expectation is that he will play top 4. Now that sounds crazy to me, but Garrioch wouldn't write that if he didn't have some inclination that would be the case.
Also I'm sure I've made my opinions about trading Connor Brown abundantly clear, but I really don't understand why, if Ottawa were to make a move like that why they wouldn't parlay that return into a bigger move. Lavoie could be a useful middle six guy in the future I suppose, but if Ottawa were to happen upon a shiny new 1st round pick, it seems like it makes a lot of sense to package it in an Eichel type move. Being able to get eichel and keep their own 1st would be huge W, given how hard pressed Ottawa will be to make the playoffs this year, especially if Eichel misses time.
For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure Palmeri has a deal done with New York. Supposedly Lou is being Lou and holding off his signings so other teams Don't know what kind of cap space they're working with.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>There is no reason or incentive for Ottawa to pick up a Koskinen dump in a Brown trade. Much like the Sabres being unwilling to include a Skinner or Okposo dump in an Eichel trade, I cant imagine much of an appetite for bringing that sort of asset in while moving a valuable player out. If you want to give a 1st and a prospect for Brown, be my guest but your Koskinen cap dump should be aimed at Buffalo or Arizona.</div></div>
The thinking here is, if Tkachuk and Batherson get $10MM-$12MM, and losing the $3.5MM for Brown, having Koskinen's cap for a year actually helps Ottawa stay above the floor enough to make other moves. It's just one season, and next season Norris, Formenton, and Brannstrom get their raises when Koskinen comes off the books.

You want C.Brown, we want Yamamoto AND Puljujärvi</div></div>
That sort of defeats the purpose of the trade. This is meant to help Edmonton now, and they are willing to give a RW prospect nearly as good as those two, and maybe better, and who will be on the same timeline as JBD, Sanderson, and Kleven, and the 1st gives Ottawa a lot of flexibility in moving up in the first round of the 2022 draft.
I contend that Lavoie and the 1st could be as valuable as Puljujarvi and Yamamoto in 2-3 seasons, which is irrelevant since I doubt they trade them for Brown, but they could trade Lavoie and the first.

Based on much Debate
I think the concerns regarding Edmonton's goaltending are based on Mike Smith's age and Mikko Koskinen's struggles with consistency.
While Smith has proven streaky throughout his career, he was among the top-5 goaltenders in the league last season. He may experience a bit of a regression, but he is in great condition and there is no reason to believe he is not capable of offering above average goaltending next season, if his workload is reasonable. Koskinen suffered inconsistencies last season, and that belies the stretches during which he was a very effective goaltender. Oiler fans should hope that Smith stays healthy, therefore allowing Koskinen to carry a workload he is comfortable with. The big Finn is playing out the final year of his contract and has to understand that his GM has made several attempts to move him in favor of another goaltender. Perhaps those factors will give him a bit of extra motivation to overcome his past struggles.

I wouldn't be surprised if Samorukov won the 3LD job out of camp. But Tippett and Holland love Russell so there won't be any further acquisitions at LHD IMO.

Niemelainen is likely going to be in the mix as well, he had a very good year in Bakersfield and is built to play a shut-down role.

I'm not sure about that.
In order to get one of those "generational" talents, you would need to win the lottery first and that would most likely require tanking.
Edmonton hasn't picked in the Top 5 since 2016.
I will add that the 2022 1st having any lottery protection would be a deal breaker.
2. "As for Yamamoto, id also gladly swap him. He got crushed in the playoffs by the big boys. I'd sooner keep the 6'4" fast, sharp shooter in Lavoie."
If Yamamoto got crushed in the playoffs by the "big boys", coaching staff wouldn't have given him 35 minutes of ice time in the final playoff game against the Jets
Ottawa may not even make the playoffs this season, so your point could be pretty much moot.
Logan Brown was supposed to be this 6'6" centreman who excelled at both ends of the ice and assert dominance in the offensive zone.
Somewhat like what you're expecting Lavoie to become.
Turns out, it never happened :(</div></div>
Logan Brown and Lavoie have basically nothing in common. Lavoie is a pure sniper.

To make this trade for Connor Brown worthwhile for Ottawa:
1. Turn the 2023 1st into a 2022 1st.
2. Swap out Lavoie for Yamamoto.
Those are the minimum requirements for a Connor Brown trade.
He's highly valued in our nation's capital :)

This is the exact trade that I want Dorion to make.
CBrown is loved, but thats because we havent had much to love in OTT recently
Lavoie looks great, and fits the rebuild timeline better. OTT is going to need impactful players on ELC in 2 years and Lavoie can be one of those players.
If you swapped the 1st to 2022, I would be in favour of accepting this.

Regardless of trade value and assuming these moves work, move Klefbom to LTIR and sign Tatar.
Hyman - McDavid - Puljujarvi
Tatar - Drai - Yamamoto
Foegele - Nuge - Brown
That's a very good top 9 and would turn a rather poor Holland off-season into a much better one.

EDM
Brown, Connor
Forsberg, Anton
Additional Details:
With a couple of potential GENERATIONAL talents at the top of the 2023 draft acquiring picks for that season is good business for Ottawa. They get Edmontons 2nd best forward prospect in Lavoie who could see NHL time as soon as this season. A right shot defensive prospect in Kemp. And a decent goalie prospect who had a tough 1st pro season in limited action this past season. The sens also get themselves a protector for all their youth in Kassian for the foreseeable future. He may be a bit expensive but the sens have over 20mil in cap space. This deal only adds 3.2 mil to their cap, and Koskinen is only 1 year long.

Keep Kemp, Rodrigue, and the 2024 3rd, and retain 50% on Kassian. Kassian at $3.2MM for three years is too much, I'd rather have Byron, and I don't want Byron, lol.

I would do this deal but I’m just not a fan of delaying the rebuild. We should stop selling pieces that we can be using to compete with for futures. I would do it but there better be a Hertl extended or Eichel trade in the works with the assets acquired and more futures Ottawa has
