No way with <strong>the negative publicity already surrounding the team they would risk public opinion on them refusing to let Keith be closer to his son</strong>. I just don’t see anyway they could have sat back another week or two. Only risk for oilers in sitting back a bit is Seattle could take him but that would also mean oilers not only keep some draft capital and a young d but have more cap to explore options which I think is fair to say bound to be a few players made available we don’t know about yet. Did anyone expect the wild to do what they are? Holland needs to work on his timing and instead of preaching patients needs to have some himself was no reason to pull trigger as quick as he did. That being said it’s not all doom and gloom very possible Keith can be a big part of the team.</div></div>
I agree with waiting to see because EDM had more to gain by waiting than CHI had to gain. CHI could only have lost by waiting...so I hear you there. Example - Ryan Suter could now potentially take that slot. As far as the "public perception"...that's not really a thing in this situation. Stan's got (2) other players with 3 cups and a Conn Smythe. They're not giving away the ship for one of the three vs the other two.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>It's not that I don't like Samorukov as a player. I think he has the potential to be a solid bottom or maybe even middle pair Dman in the NHL. (Top pair isn't realistic IMO.) It's just that I wouldn't place him higher than any of the Hawks current D prospects like Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin, Kalynuk, Stillman that are already contracted with the team and learning the teams' systems/schemes. That's why he'd be in the KHL. I guess the long winded way of saying...Picks are preferred from the Hawks system because Samorukov is the prospect the Hawks actually do have in spades. That list actually doesn't even include some of their NCAA / CHL 20/under prospects too.</div></div>
You know, right now Samorukov projects to be a top 4 pairing defensmen.
The Oilers had a defensmen who projected to be a middle pairing defensmen and after 285 NHL games the Oilers thought he reached his peak, even though most fans and analytic types keeps saying his game was really good and he just needed to be surrounded by better players, the Oilers traded him for a 2nd rounder....Now, it's one of the worst trades the Oilers have ever made. That player was Jeff Petry.
I'm not saying Samorukov is Petry, but there is a real good chance he projects higher than middle pair and I wouldn't trade him for Keith straight up right now.

Matt Duchene to Oil Now 3 Lines deep
I'd probably do it from a Nashville perspective. Don't know why Edmonton would do it though.
Koskinen + Neal are short term problems and have very manageable buyouts. Duchene had a down year but the year prior still wasn't worth 8M. I don't think Duchene is a good gamble for Edmonton but I'd gladly switch Duchene for Koskinen + Neal + 2nd to be rid of Duchene's contract before it turns more Toxic in Nashville. Koskinen can back up Saros this season and Neal can sit on the 3rd/4th line. Forsberg would be a great addition for Edmonton and I personally think 1st + Lavoie is a pretty good offer for Forsberg.

In 2018-19 he had 26 points in 79. 19pts in 74 games the year prior and 24pts in 79 games the year before that. His 34pts in 59 games last year(2019-20) was a career high, and hes since lost that mojo. He had 5 points in 27 games this year. A 15 point pace. I have no idea where your getting your VERY good 3rd liner idea from, but its not from his play. If anything hes a (just) good 4th liner. I love me my Zack kassian. But hes wayyy overpaid. He should be at 2 million tops. Hes also not going to get better at his age now, hes going to decline in all likelihood. You are NOT getting anything of value for Zack Kassian. Period. A 3rd MAYBE from a desperate East team looking for a tough guy. Thats it. You are 100% being unrealistic. And i LOVE Zacks rag dolling ways. Also Marleau had 16 goals, 21 assists for 37 points his last season in Toronto. Hes also played 3 seasons since. How deteriorated is he. He'll likely be back again</div></div>
That very desperate team in the east in question is one of toronto, rangers, boston or pitsburgh. The good thing about kass is he is quite the skater when he wants to and is physical which eye test guys absolutely love. Wouldnt be surprised to seem him with the pens or rangers next year

But i think this is the type of deal Ken and Steve would/could agree on. Helps both teams out to a degree.</div></div>
I don't think the 5th would make it not happen and I agree with everything you are saying. I would just push for nothing going back if I was Steve. If Holland demanded it, can't see it being an issue

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>As a Hawks fan, I'm FOR making the potential Keith to EDM trade larger by inserting Dylan Strome. I know scoring depth is EDM's single biggest area of concern to address, BUT the trade above isn't going work form the CHI perspective. Samorukov would stay in the KHL another year if he was sent to CHI. Picks is where it's at for CHI.
I'm actually ok with retaining a little on Keith, BUT you're missing an opportunity where BOTH CHI and EDM can win. Send Mikko to Chicago vs buying him out and reduce the Keith's Retention. Mikko's buyout has a $1.5M price tag next year anyway. From the EDM perspective it's the same exact thing as Keith with $1M retained...if you buyout Mikko. CHI would rather take Mikko's cap hit in full this year vs buying him out. Share the savings together. It really is a win/win situation.</div></div>
They're a lot of misconceptions or call it education on Samorukov that people seem to be missing. Samorukov is a bonafide prospect who only went to the KHL because the AHL shut down. His AHL numbers and performance was extremely good. He may very well make the Oilers coming out of camp this year and By all accounts is ahead of Broberg on the Oilers defensive depth charts.
He could very well be Jones replacement on the Oilers this year.
within a year or two would be a replacement of Keith's on ether the Oiler or the Blackhawks.

Spending too much on Yamo and Brossoit. Yamo will get like ~2 for 2 year bridge and Edmonton could get Smith as the backup for 2M or under. Using the freed up cap you could try to improve the D as that bottom two pairings aren't looking too hot.

Oilers baby steps
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Drai_By_shooting</b></div><div>Well i think Detroit is that exact type of team that would take a chance on Kahun for that price. His contract would be a mil and for a 35-45 point guy thats not bad. Hes young enough to grow with the team and new enough to the league to get better. A 4th rounder makes the NHL only 10% of the time. If that doesn't make you happy then a 5th. As for Turris a team he actually excelled with, the chance of him getting reignited again is slim but possible look at Ryan Dzingle. Good in Ottawa, bad in Columbus and Carolina, good again in Ottawa. At the cost of a 7th and the low salary. Could be worth the shot</div></div>
I would rather take my chances with a fourth rounder over kahun. He had one good year then as decent year then was invisible last year. Detroit has alot of players coming up to play on the wing, plus we could find someone similar in free agency, not saying someone might not pay that for him, just don't think it makes sense for Detroit.

Actually, Palat's list is 20 teams, I believe, and Killiorn is a 16 team trade list. But I hear a lot of Canadian teams don't make those lists. Taxes are a big thing. One assumes weather is, too, probably!! (Especially for Tampa players.) If I was them, not so sure I'd put a team down on my list where I can't hit the beach on my day off, all the while seeing significant less pay thanks to higher taxes. But as Drai_By mentioned, the idea of lining up next to one (or both) of the top 2 offensive talents in the NHL may very well have certain players overlook those things! (anyone's guess, really!)

Oh, totally agree. McDavid and Draisaitl are huge draws . . . But it's Tampa. Great place to live, winning franchise . . . They insisted on those NTC's for a reason. You can be sure any team they put on their lists will be done begrudgingly!

Maybe, but price might be higher for Tampa's 2nd leading scorer (though Tampa is likely forced to sell low on any player) and the extra year on Killorn's deal is appealing. Gourde would be a decent add, too, but the real question is who (if anyone) waives their NTC to leave Tampa for Edmonton?
