Oilers 2022 without Klefbom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Olofsson is basically a PP specialist - he scores more than half his goals with the man advantage. He doesn't add anything at 5v5 even on a weak Sabres team, his xGF% rel is negative despite being stapled to a top-10 center. If you're re-signing Nuge there's absolutely no reason to trade for this guy, as he's not going to see 1st unit PP time in Edmonton and he's replacement-level otherwise.</div></div>
Now that is good criticism. You aren't wrong.

Oilers 2022 without Klefbom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>He’s only been in North America for three years. He scored 30 goals in the AHL in his first season, over 20 in an injury shortened rookie year, and 13 in 2/3 of a normal season this year. Extrapolate that out he’s a 20 goal scorer guaranteed in a full season. Samorukov is the only good piece in the trade for Buffalo. They still already have several young left hand shooting defensemen, and they could use a right side guy a lot more than another lefty. The value just is not there.</div></div>

You're right, the Oilers might be getting fleeced here...

Perennial? He’s a 25 year old with 2 seasons under his belt. You might want to research Samorukov btw...

Sabres trade Eichel to SJ if prices low
There are definitely some no trade issues with this move. Not many people would waive an NTC to leave a bad team in Cali for a bad team in Buffalo.

Can Benning Make the Playoffs Next Season

Oh absolutely, I just don't see any way that the Sabres can ice a competitive team without burning it to the ground again. I live in Edmonton so I definitely understand a long suffering fans' psyche and an adverse reaction to a re-started re-build. I was honestly surprised there weren't riots at the end of the Chiarelli tenure.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>With that bottom 6 they are not making the playoffs</div></div>
There is some cap space to spare to make some other moves and they only have to be better than LA, ANA, SJ, CGY and the 5th place team in the Central next season. I got kinda lazy on this one and didn't finish the thought entirely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresforlife</b></div><div>If the Sabres trade Eichel, Reinhart, and/or Risto for prospects and picks then that trade is fine and makes perfect sense.</div></div>
This was a quick thought experiment that came out of a previous roster that I spent a little more time on: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/453511 and spent a little more time writing about: https://dynastymode.blogspot.com/2021/05/how-to-fix-buffalo-sabres.html. I honestly think they have to trade all those guys for picks and embrace the tank.

Just went with what Evolving Hockey projects. They've been pretty close on most but I definitely agree with their Petterson projection being off.

Dynasty Mode - BUF 2022
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BubbleDemko</b></div><div>Let me know if he says yes. GMs don't trade top 10 picks or they don't stay GMs for long</div></div>
Totally valid point if it was the 2021 pick. However, there is a full season of hope and optimism for Mr. Benning and he could very easily make the same mistake that Doug Wilson made on the Karlsson trade or that Pierre Dorion made in the Duchene trade with his 2022 first rounder. Especially if he thinks he is a playoff team because he would also be assuming that pick is no better than 16th overall.

This roster was made assuming Jim Benning was the GM, last I checked he runs the Canucks and is available to be taken advantage of by players and other GMs. You may not take a trade like this but Benning probably would because he definitely believes in his team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BubbleDemko</b></div><div>Still a no. Vancouver will not throw away a top 10 pick</div></div>
You think Benning believes that next year (2022) is going to be a Top 10 pick? Or do you think he thinks (and told Aquilini) that Vancouver will make the playoffs next year? In a Pacific division with LA, San Jose, Anaheim, Seattle, Vegas, Edmonton and Calgary: it isn't that unlikely. If you think your team is going to be in the lottery anyways, you wouldn't make a salary dump trade of any kind but there is no way Benning keeps his job if he tells Aquilini that they aren't making the playoffs next year.

Dynasty Mode - BUF 2022
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BubbleDemko</b></div><div>No from Vancouver</div></div>
The 2nd might be a bit much but the Canes got a first for washing JUST the Marleau contract and that was only one year at $6.75M. I would think that moving out $12M in cap hit would be worth at least that. Especially after Benning got a stay of execution, the pressure is on him to turn that team around and moving on completely would be preferable to having a cap hit both this year and next for any of those contracts.
Similar to the Eichel trade, I wouldn't make it if I was the GM but I certainly would if the maniac that signs my checks mandated that I get a deal done. External factors are going to make for some weird trades this year.
