You can check the expansion draft rules and eligibility here on cap friendly if you’d like.

Played in Switzerland, ergo only has two years of “professional experience” as per the rules by the time the expansion draft comes around.

Luckily Elvis is exempt. On the other hand, we’d have problems protecting Dermott.

Interesting fact about Gavrikov: he’s a 10.2c RFA, meaning he can’t sign an offer sheet.

Can’t see Kessel having Columbus on his trade list, and I think a first from a team he would accept a trade to might be a tough ask.

Not completely unfeasible

Quoting: Ajp_18

You’re almost 3 mil over the cap already..... also where are you going to get the room for players like Bjorkstrand, Texier, Werenski, Jones, and others in the next 4 years..... I don’t think it’s impossible, but it would definitely lead to hard choices in the future. If they genuinely believed a trade for an expensive wing was worth it, they’d get it done. The advantage is that it’s a lot easier to get a LW in trade than a 2C - I doubt we get one for the price we’d be willing to pay.
This is really more of a thought exercise, though. I liked using this trade because it’s at the extreme in terms of cap hit we’d probably take on.

Unrealistic but would be awesome
I’d actually go against the grain and say yes, but my response is predicated on the FO firmly believing Texier can be the 2C we need in the next year (and Torts being on board to not hamper his development at that position) and us being able to work the cap.
I’m also sentimental and want Jake back, so, you know, I’m not 100% rational.

To be honest, I’d rather just keep Andy, or if that’s impossible, get some picks back. We don’t need another RW, even if he is from Columbus.

Eh, we can’t afford that cap hit for an extraneous player Torts “might” be able to fix. Also between rookies and Grigorenko, we’re probably at his limit before his blood pressure gets too high.

Yeah, I’m of the school that it doesn’t really matter what he says, except that it gives the indication that he values it enough that it’ll have to be good to get him to part with it.

I love Wild Bill as much as anyone, but if Tampa accepts Grigorenko and a 1st for Cirelli I don’t know why CBJ doesn’t just stop there.

Revamping Panthers Via Big Trades
Disregarding the trade itself, Zito was CBJ’s negotiator. He’d have to know that the minimum Ferris will accept for Josh Anderson is the qualifying offer ($2.1M), and there’s a reasonable chance he takes them to arbitration for more.

Dont forget LTIR ability

Quoting: Fiero86GT

So basically teams trade for those contracts so they can relief there internal LTIR payroll since they are paying them off the cap system. A team like Arizona who is cash strapped would most likely try to find a team to take the contract but wont help the other team cap wise, just pay the contract off the books and get something back in return. learned something. It is a very confusing system. Thanks everyone.

If Arizona gets rid of the Hossa contract, it wouldn’t be about cash. Hossa only costs them $1M in salary next season. They could decide to move the contract for cap reasons, but that’s probably less likely unless they manage to re-sign Hall.

Offseason
Brandon Dubinsky is signed for one more season, is injured and will never play again, and his contract is insured. Columbus isn’t trading that for Loui Eriksson, and no team is going to give you that capspace for the next two (flat cap!) seasons unless you give them a good sweetener.
Secondly, Columbus has no need for Troy Stecher.

To be fair: all he said was that Edmonton was a real hockey town, as a kid who was probably flailing around to say something nice about a team he didn’t expect to draft him. I don’t see that as a slight on Columbus. Hell, it could’ve even been his prepared phrase to use with a Columbus reporter too, given his abysmal English.
That having been said: Jarmo loves his reclamation projects, but I can’t see him taking Puljujarvi unless he comes dirt cheap or as part of a larger deal (and the one here is terrible for us, I want no part of Neal’s contract). Particularly since we don’t really need another right-handed RW forward.

Columbus really doesn’t need goalie prospects and all Chiasson does is cost money we can’t really afford to spend on bottom-sixers.

Keeping Anderson
Not bad. Line-wise, I’d do a bit of shuffling - probably swap Atkinson and Nyquist, just because I think being on a line with two space creators would benefit Gus, and Cam’s never played the left side.
If the AHL is running, I’d probably put Nash in and send down Foudy, with the aim of telling him to go nuts on offence on the first line. Might do the same for Bemstrom - reassess them both around the middle of the season and bring them up to provide some jump in the second half.

Buying low
Columbus would be better off if you offersheeted, because then we don’t lose a 6th as well. Also, if you can get Anderson to sign for $2M for three years, we’d just keep him. Part of the reason he might be available is his camp feels he was hard done by in negotiations on his last contract. Man wants paid.
