Conor Garland's trade value
OEL isn't dead weight but, he isn't a 7.2 Million dollar defenseman. OEL is between 1-1.5 million overpaid. Which to a normal team isn't a big deal but, with Dickinson & Poolman's contracts, 2,4 in buyouts and Halak's 1.25 next year makes the cap situation troublesome. With Vancouver there are just so many fires burning we didn't need 1 more. I would argue if we could flip Garland for a top 4 RHD Vancouver would win the OEL trade. A 9th seems a little high for Garland 1 for 1 considering Dabrincat got a 7th a 2nd and 3rd.

Myers isn't bad just a little overpaid. Myers would be good value at something like 4 million. 3 million is great value.

Conor Garland's trade value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Okay, so there seems to have been some debate around the hockey world about what Garland's trade value is. Here are my two cents on the matter
Garlands value: Scenario 1 - mid 1st rounder + B prospect, Scenario 2 - 2nd rounder + A prospect
If I were to trade Garland for a single draft pick, it would be for a 1st rounder in the 6-10 range. Obviously Garland isn't worth a top 5 pick, but I think a strong argument can be made that he can fetch a pick in the 6-10th overall range because of his exceptional ability to produce even strength offense, coupled with his play driving ability. A single mid-late 1st by itself for Garland feels kind of underwhelming tbh
In other words, I think Jim Benning paid fair price to get Garland with the 9th overall pick, I don't think he overpaid. I know people will argue "LOOK AT GUENTHER!!", yeah, I see, but he still hasn't proven anything at the NHL level yet, so I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch</div></div>
I know Arizona's asking price for Garland when Vancouver traded for him was a 1st. I agree I don't think Benning overpaid for him but, its hard to isolate what value he had because that trade had several things going on.

Miller will go for a 1st, a blue-chip prospect and a roster player. Taking on Zucker for 1 year will get you Kapanen's rights. We will see Millers' value in a few days.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>What extra asset is in that trade that you think is worth Zucker's cap hit? Marino+Joseph+Kapanen's rights+2022 1st isn't even worth Miller on its own, Zucker just makes that value even worse.</div></div>

Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>Pearson's worth more than that, a 2nd+a low pick/prospect or equivalent.
Dickinson had a bad season for sure, and you at least let him play out another season to see if he can find his game before you buy him out or pay to relocate him.
But you didn't open up cap space. You moved out Pearson and Dickinson and brought on Zucker, who has an almost equal cap hit as those two combined and performs even worse than either Dickinson or Pearson. You just traded a good middle-six winger and a somewhat problematic bottom-sixer for a terrible depth winger.</div></div>
Taking Zucker back is weaponizing your cap space to gain more assets in a trade. Not to mention it's only for 1 year when Dickinson and Pearson have more term.

Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>westleysnipez</b></div><div>I know, but that's why they're fans and not NHL executives. I've mentioned it several times here, but those running actual NHL teams value those players positively, not as cap dumps.
On here it's the same 30 trades each day until the player is traded or people lose interest. People see the trade and then take that player and trade them with to a different team with the same pick or some other different tweak to seem different, then the cycle repeats.
That hive mind mentality leads people to be shocked when that "cap dump" player is dealt for more than what they were routinely traded for on here. It happens every year.</div></div>
A 3rd for Pearson is fair value. I kept Myers because he is hard to replace. Dickinson is a buyout candidate. Poolman I don't think anyone can call it a good contract. Allvin said he wanted to open up cap space so you can't say it's unrealistic to open up space.

Blow it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Haymaker26</b></div><div>I don't think I am. Yes, Marino's offensive production has not been what it was when he was a rookie. However, he's a great puck-mover and his defense has improved in the past few seasons. Garland is ~$500k more expensive when the Pens essentially need more cap space than they have. I think it's a good contract, but I think Marino's is better for Pittsburgh's needs now, and could end up being much better in the future. As far as secondary scoring goes, we can find options in free agency that don't cost a top 4 defenseman. And I can't stress this enough. Letang is a UFA right now. If Marino is moved, our only nhl-caliber RHD are Chad Ruhwedel and Mark Friedman. Both are bottom pairing guys at best. My point isn't that Marino has higher value than Garland in general. He has much more value to the Penguins specifically than Garland. Garland is an excellent player, but he would not bring enough value to make giving away Marino worth it.</div></div>
I can't argue with a lot of this. From my understanding PITs management isn't super high on Merino. it depends on Letang resigning.
