<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>That Graves trade is horrendous for Ottawa.
Brannstrom has some positive value and Graves is a cap dump.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>If by cost controlled you mean hopelessly overpaid then yes.
Brannstrom is *actually* cost controlled being an RFA.
There are more metrics than height by the way.</div></div>
No way PIT takes that trade. Brannstrom holds no value to the penguins. They already got 2 offensive defensemen. They don't need a 3rd. They need 3rd pairings who can PK and play heavy minutes in their end.
Graves has not been the problem for PIT all year. None of the numbers show that. The 3rd pairing though has bled like 30 goals on the season. Ludvig alone has bled 12 goals in 5v5 play.
Graves on the other hand is still a net + on 5v5 play for as "bad" as people want to call him, and that's with him being paired with EK and Letang. Who are notorious for leaving their partner exposed and making bonehead decisions.
Anyone calling him over paid has no idea what they are talking about. He got average 2LD money.... and he's an average 2LD.
The reason penguins fans are so awful to him, is they expected a Prim Dumo in a dirt cheap Dumo contract..... Well they aren't getting that in FA. They should have known better and tapered their expectations. He's an average 2LD, on an average 2LD contract. They aren't going to move that for a guy who would either go to AHL or is a small trade chip getting moved out. As he doesn't really fit the team. You can't pair him with either Letang or EK, and he's not exactly a 3rd pairing guy.

The CGY trade works for me. Duehr has mostly been the odd man out under Huska, and I don't mind taking a flyer on Bernard-Docker.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FantasySens</b></div><div>I feel like Brannstrom goes to ARI and plays next to one of their big RHD for the next decade and puts up 40 pnts a year. Probably a really good fit. I agree Dumba doesn't have a lot of value because he's a UFA, but if you can talk him into staying in the summer for a lower rate, he would fit in nicely on the right side next year. Bjugstad is one of those pro mentality guys that Staios seems to have a hard on for...and hes signed for a 2nd year, so maybe a little more value there then a 4th, but the extra value of Branny and Thomson would make up for that...or maybe up the pick to a 2nd if you know you can extend Dumba.</div></div>
I think it would be more the opposite... Dumba for the 4th and Bjugstad for Brannstrom. Make the pick a 3rd at the very least but at the same time, not sure about Bjugstad current value.
I think Yotes fans would reject this anyway, Brannstrom is quite underrated. He leads the Sens at ES in CF%, SF% and xGF%, CA/60, GA/60 the last 2 seasons combined. Second to Zub in SA/60 and xGA/60.

Trying to be real --- Ottawa Senators 23-24
I think your right, in that Dorion plays hardball. I think he will get the Cat under Stutzle's number or will trade him, basically a "here it is, take it or leave it" deal (I have a funny feeling the Cat will take it and lay some roots in Ottawa).
Brassard is in Ottawa or retiring - he has said as much, as he has moved too much in recent years and wants to be near some businesses he's invested in (Gatineau Olympic being one).
Hamonic has always put family over career, so we will see if Ottawa is a good fit for his family (he has requested trades to be near family in Manitoba in the past and even did not report for a period in Vancouver).
I also think Formenton, if cleared, will not cost that much. He'll be a RFA with baggage and who spent a year outside the NHL. Maybe a 2.5 million bridge deal. I think your close on Pinto, definitely a bridge deal, as he has shown he's not quite a 2nd liner yet.

Other than Bjugstad and Braun on 1 year deals, I probably wouldn’t touch the other guys. Maybe Nutivaara could be interesting but Vatrano is probably seeking a nice contract that I wouldn’t give him

Ottawa Senators signed Nick Holden (1 Year / $1,300,000 AAV)
1. We no longer have to worry about selling Holden off at the deadline.
2. Holden takes a pay cut with a team that is not a great destination for UFAs and where every player pays about 50% of their salary in taxes.
3. It's only a 1 year deal.
4. Holden wants to stick around a team that has had a brutal season and is nowhere close to earning a playoff spot.
5. Holden has been our 2nd best LD after Thomas Chabot this season, despite being 34 years of age.
I voted yes.

I finally have someone to send back to Montreal each time their fans want to send Byron to Ottawa.
Could be worse, they could have traded for Eriksson. Maybe if they cloned parts of Eriksson with parts of Galchenyuk, they could get, Yakupov.

Don’t understand how people think this is a bad signing. He had one rough year after having 5 consecutive seasons of 40+ points. He started playing better when he got traded to MIN too, Pittsburgh just wasn’t the place for him. He’s only 26. Very tradable contract come the deadline.

They got a 3rd round pick for a goalie that put up a .927 this year. Montreal gave up the pick they got for signing Kovalchuk and trading him a month later. It's a clear W for MTL

Great deal for both teams. Blues get cap space to re-sign Pietrangelo and the habs get a solid backup for cheap.

Sens should be taking Byfield/Stützle at 3 and the Raymond at 5. They already have great D specs, and there’s tons of forward specs this year and great d specs in the late rounds and then next year is top heavy with dmen
