Moving Chychrun

that's definitely doable in this scenario too - Pinto, Demelo, and the replacement goalie could all conceivably come in at cheaper cap hits. Wouldn't be too mad about Marchement, but would prefer the cost-controlled youth for future roster construction flexibility.

Yeah I think a 3rd is just about right for his value to Ottawa. He could have a bigger role elsewhere but i don't think anyone is paying a 2nd for him.

because he's probably better than Korpisalo, I had plenty of cap space, and i expect it'll take an "Ottawa weather, city, and taxes" tax to pry him away from Florida.

See, and I don't think that's the right move for Ottawa. I understand that those two fit Nashville's needs though, but I'd rather wait it out until the offseason and see what else is available if one of those pieces are a must.

Please see the details of the trade where it says to "anyone who will have him". I just picked a rebuilding team who has cap space because those are they only ones who might want Kubalik.

Imo for Ottawa to get Saros it'd have to be Norris or Chychrun.</div></div>
If those were the only options (and i'm not convinced they are) I'd send Chychrun.

I agree with this, which is why I tried to make the trade without using any of the actually good players on the team. Frankly I can't figure out why people are so eager to trade Norris. He's young, on a long-term deal, and is recovering from injury.
I think the sens need an upgrade at goalie, but I think throwing away the great organizational depth they have in their top 9 forward group to get it done would be a mistake. I'm convinced that keeping guys like Pinto and Greig on bridge contracts will be crucial for long-term success. I'd maybe move Chychrun to clear up the awkward construction of the D corps, but then you gotta find a RHD replacement for him that doesn't cost more than like 6 mil a year.

That's a good point I hadn't considered. Doesn't bode well for getting Pinto in at the start of camp though.
I think a mid-to high third is more than fair for a 20-goal middle-six guy but i guess I'd be ok with a fourth. Not a ton of leverage given everyone knows we need Pinto signed.

My understanding is the cap will only go up by one mil next year, and then hopefully jumps up a lot more. Saw an article (I think in Forbes) that said it could be as high as 87 mil in 2024-2025, which would give them some significant breathing room.
Good point on JBD. I'd to see what he can do but the way I did these signings they literally can't afford to have him up with the team at the same time as another cheap depth defender. I think Hamonic can be good in a depth role for another year, but we'll see what management does.

(I am outting myself as a huge Habs fan btw), but I really don't see Ott winning with Chabot. He's too loose and has serious defensive problems. Jake Sanderson is much better. I would trade Chabot for 2 rly good 2d line Dmen...which I know isnt the intent of your post. Im just sharing..</div></div>
Hey no worries I appreciate the discussion (as long as no one calls Stutzle an Olympic diver lol). I've been concerned with Chabot's play as well but as a Sens fan I a) have to hope he solidifies as Sanderson shares more of his minutes, b) know that he's so important to the team dynamic that I don't think he's tradeable, and c) really don't want him to leave.
Your point on DeBrincat is totally right and there's no way to stop him from leaving if that's what he wants. If he thinks he's worth 10 mil per under a larger cap I guess I'd hope that new ownership will be willing to make that work. I like Cat and I think the Sens should do everything in their power to keep him. He fits the core's window and I think his finishing will bounce back up next year.

He’d be a 6th or 7th d on a winning team so maybe a 4th for someone like Ottawa and would likey sign cheaper on a deal. Like 4x3.5m. I would expect a 2nd and middling prospect to get him. He’s certainly not the dynamo or anything anymore. Guerin has been trying to pump his tires up for like 2 years and. Nobody is biting it seems.</div></div>
Thanks for the info! If that's the case then yeah csick is right and this isn't the best move.

Totally fair, but I do think he's someone we can get without giving up any core players or key prospects. I've heard he's not what he used to be but I don't know how far he's fallen. Plus I genuinely think there is value in having experienced guys on the roster and Dumba is a quality vet who's been playing solid minutes for a while.

Because this is a cool tool for building a lineup and I wanted to see this lineup laid out. Anyone upset at you for making stupid trades should get over themselves and stop feeling insecure about the potential of losing their favourite players. This is a public forum and people are going to post stuff we don't like. Spamming bad deals would be a dick move but I've never seen anyone do that here.

How much do you think Bear is worth on a bridge? You're probably right that Ottawa can't afford it, but it's not impossible if Debrincat is ok at like 8.5 and Pinto is fine with a small bridge deal as well (something around 2.5 x 2 years).

Talbot is a 35-year old rental goaltender with injury issues. Arvidsson has been one of the Kings most effective forwards since he was acquired before last season.
I'll bet the Kings would be willing to give up a 3rd round pick for Talbot's services, or a 2nd if Ottawa was willing to retain 50% of his salary.</div></div>
Why should I be realistic with values in my own made-up fantasy trade scenario

Yeah and if that's the case I don't see a trade working out. I don't think Ottawa is well-served by sending a first with this and they can't take much more than 5.75/year back. If you swap the 2nd for this year's first then everybody will have felt like they lost, which is maybe the only way this kind of trade goes through.
