Habs acquire Strome
i think it all depends on how Hoffman and Strome play. If Hoffman gets 20 goals 45-50 points, Strome gets 12-15 goals 35-45 points, then Hoffman does have more value and there's no need for MTL to add, rather, the contrary should happen. But if you do want MTL to add, I'd advise trying to bolster their defense. Maybe try moving Chiarot in the deal and acquiring someone like Stillman

Yeah.. teams don't usually sign a guy in the offseason on a multi-year deal just to trade him right away..

I doubt they put two 21 year old together, MTL seems to have a tough time trusting 1 young guy per line can't see them having a pair like that.
Swap Evans to 4th and Poehling to 3rd and I think you're good, Evans is better then Poehling rn but Poehlings upside is his offence which would be better used with a winger combination of Droui/Anderson/Gally or Hoffman

MTL The right answer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMan_MTL</b></div><div>I like the idea of letting the kids play, but don't you think bringing in Bozak and Vatanen on team friendly deals will just give us a bit more depth and solidify the team? I really like Poehling and would like to give him a shot, but relying on KK, Poehling and Evans at C worries me. Bozak can help them and play that Danault role (obviously less effectively but still). And I think Vatanen over Wideman and give Norlinder a bit more time.
G</div></div>
nah, Id rather finally let the kids play, team already looks younger and its the first time in a while we will have a "problem" of possibly having 5-6 players younger then 24 on the team, Vatanen would be good but MB already got widemen and he knows norlinder will put up a hard fight for a spot, cant see him adding another D now

if Vatanen's being brought in, Kulak's being traded. If Bozak's being brought in, 2 forwards are getting traded. You can't just avoid trades.

MTL The right answer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>habs_need_Scoring</b></div><div>Agreed, I think Romanov should be seeing 20+ minutes a night, and if Norlinder can hold his own, which i think he will be able to, they should be able to get him in that 13-17min a night, he has offensive upside so maybe some PP time, but we will see. I also dont think Ghule is too fair off either. He already has the size and everything that came out last year about him was how he was further ahead then they expected and how his skating was already at an nhl level which usually is something that needs to be worked on before making the jump. Either way i hope they push forward with that mindset instead of giving Nordliner's ice time to Wideman or going out and signing some vet that has no upside.</div></div>
Could Easily see our 2023-24 Starting D core be
Romanov Petry
Guhle Norlinder
Edmundson Savard
Guhle could make the team in 2022-23 but i think they let him have a year in Laval first unless he's doing really well. Brook aswell could be there on RHD 3rd pair but with Savard and petry locked up for term and our LHD being strong i think he won't fit yet sadly

Wingers look solid, Centers can't be called Solid until we see how KK comes out, Same with Poehling IMO
I think Norlinder has a clause that if its not NHL then he's back to Europe for another year.

Replacing Danault with a big trade
Take Guhle out, I don't want another McDonagh and Sergachev situation where we trade a 1st round D-Man and they go on to find success on another team. I much rather keep Guhle instead of giving him away for free just to free some cap

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMan_MTL</b></div><div>Kaiden Guhle was a 16th overall pick in 2020 Draft and is highly regarded, I don't think his addition should be overlooked.
Let me just say, I am a Montreal Fan and I have been frustrated with Drouin. That being said, I believe he has value as a complimentary offensive piece in a top 6. He puts up numbers and has strong playmaking skills. Surrounded properly he can add a lot of offense. However in Montreal the expectations were that he would be dominant, which he is not. He's got two years left on not the worse deal and I believe Drouin can bounce back in an environment that has much less pressure and scrutiny from the media.
Thanks for the input,
G</div></div>
As recently evidenced by Toffoli, players who produce elsewhere generally are stifled in LA's defensive-first system. Essentially reduce all point totals by 30% if you play in LA. Guys that are struggling offensively elsewhere are not going to succeed in LA. While I don't disagree that Drouin could do well with a change of scenery, I don't think that would be the case in LA. I don't think he would do well.
You're right about Guhle. For some reason I mistook him with Anaheim's Brendan Guhle, who is significantly more underwhelming. That changes things a bit. Drop Drouin from the trade, and swap out the 2021 1st with the 2022 1st and I think LA would go for it.

MTL Side of EDM Trade
I think you can get a deal done without adding the burden of the James Neal contract. I also see it very unlikely EDM deals out their 2020 first rounder in Holloway and a 2021 1st rounder consdeirng how few assets and future draft picks they have.
I've thought about an Allen for Koskinen + swap as well. Jake Allen has a great deal at $2.87M for next 2 years, and MTL would probably lose him to Seattle anyways. Could also see EDM retain $1.5M off Koskinen (cost of his buyout)- I'm sure he could be a decent backup to Price. Drouin's value has definitely gone down, but still think he has some good years to go in this league, especially in a EDM top 6.
If Klefbom is healthy (fingers crossed shoulder is okay), would you consider:
MTL trades: Drouin $5.5Mx2 + Allen $2.875Mx2 + one of Chiarot $3.5Mx1 or Edmundson $3.5Mx3
EDM trades: Koskinen $4.5Mx1, Klefbom $4.167Mx2, Raphael Lavoie ELC

Would nsh do this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMan_MTL</b></div><div>I am not sure I agree and I see where the logic is for Drouin to Seattle.
Let me just say, I am a Montreal Fan and I have been frustrated with Drouin. That being said, I believe he has value as a complimentary offensive piece in a top 6. He puts up numbers and has strong playmaking skills. However in Montreal the expectations were that he would be dominant, which he is not. I could see Seattle "taking a chance" on him as Vegas did with Perron and Neal. Seattle is going to need players and they could do a lot worse than Drouin in my opinion. He's got two years left on not the worse deal out there, I could see scenario where he flourishes in Seattle or a similar less intense market/fanbase. I actually think Habs could get a better return somewhere else for a player that equally could use a fresh start or an offensive needy team.
Hope this is the explanation you were looking for.
Thanks,
G</div></div>
Though I whole heatedly disagree, you did make a rational argument.. if I'm Ron Francis Jake Allen is probably the best goalie available and is my pick from Montreal. Besides Drouin and off ice make me nervous there were not widely known things in Tampa that make me question his judgement then the " personal issues" in Montreal add to those questions.

I think Fletcher is going to shed as much cap as possible (trading a large one or paying SEA to take a large one of our hands, trading Ghost, etc.). Our number 1 hole is a number one dman, and although this may not be the Weber of 2014, he is certainly capable of playing a big time role. Pair him with Provy and injecting his leadership into this team, while bringing all his other intangibles, I'd def do it.

Drouin would find himself outside the top 6 in Washington (Mantha Wilson Oshie and Ovechkin) and Brook is a 22 year old that hasntplayed a single NHL game. Neither adds enough for us to lose a 60-70 point center.</div></div>
Oshie could be gone next season(I doubt it though) And maybe all Drouin needs is a change of scenery, I could see him doing well in Washington granted if he plays in the top 6

Anaheim needs help at, and is in the market for, RW and RD. Drouin and Chiarot are neither. The only guys on your roster I can see us being interested in are Cole Caufield and Cale Fleury; you won't be making the former available and we'll wait until after the expansion draft for the latter.

Weber Drouin out and Duchene Risto in for Habs 2021-22
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Habs fans might not like Weber's contract..and even his play at times, but Duchene seems to be real bad long term value.</div></div>
This whole Weber back to Nashville thing really depends on talks with Weber. If he is retiring when his contract is 1M a year (I think if he continues to decline than I think he will want to also), its better off to keep Weber for those two more years. He's not been great but people are exaggerating how bad he has been. I would rather have another 2 years of Weber even if he is clearly starting to decline a little than another 5 years of Duchene. Plus If Weber does retire, Nashville will still have to acquire him from the Habs and place him on LTIR.
If Weber wants to play out his contract no matter what, because of pride or whatever, than get Duchene over here ASAP! I simply don't think Weber will though. He's put his body through hell and back and playing through 3 more years at the end of his career for 1M a season seems irrational. Its not like he'll be winning a cup with the Habs any time soon either so might as well call it when the pay doesn't justify the toll the body takes playing hockey anymore.
