Enough of the egotistical Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GladeBang12</b></div><div>Do you think a team would give Nylander 11x7, because that’s likely what it would take to offer more money than the Leafs. And I’m not that invested in the whole “tax” thing. I’m sure there’s some real arguments there. I do know the Leafs have the luxury of front-loading contracts with big signing bonuses. That’s supposedly a significant advantage (I don’t really know why). Either way, even if Willy was offered that contract, I don’t think there’s a single competitive team in the league that would actually be able to afford that contract, and I’m still not sure why any non-competitive team would want to sign that contract.
I do agree they will meet in the middle eventually. Something in the 9-9.5 range. Everything that happens between now and then is just noise.</div></div>
I won't take 11x7 to offer more than the Leafs, maybe that's what he would need to account for endorsements. I did my comparison (although it's not perfect since I didn't account for signing bonuses) based on if his entire salary was a base salary, the net income of 80M deal in Toronto (which the Leafs aren't offering) vs 63M elsewhere. The difference ranges from being more money in some of the tax free states to being less by some.
Front-loading the contract does two things 1) gives them more money upfront and who doesn't like that 2) bonuses get taxed different, so it saves them more money. Other teams could give signing bonuses as well though. 68M/76M of Tkachuk's deal is in signing bonuses.
I agree though that they will agree to a 9.2-9.5M deal.

Then why did we let Gustafsson go for 850 he’s great offencively maybe even better than Klingberg. He’s washed man it’s an awful contract we need depth scoring and a LW not an offensive RD

As long as it's a 1-year deal which I think it is, shouldn't be the end. He has a better shot than Rielly, but of they can trade for Tanev and pair him with Reilly and Brodie with Klingberg, it might just work.

Deep douche
As a Leafs fan, value seems fine to me (can't speak for Cgy), but its all about if we can get him signed. I would only do this if we could negotiate first. Also Murray is not on LTIR, so would have to make the cap work. But I think you can. Duchene makes 250k less say, Schenn either not signed (play Gio and move McCabe to the right), or signed for 400k less, maybe send Timmins back. Cn probably squeeze this through.

Leafs want to bring back Alex Kerfoot
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Only way it makes sense is if he comes in around but preferably UNDER what Kampf just signed for.
Kampf is by far the more important of the 2 players. Kerfoot is quick and good defensively though. I would happily sign him to a 4 year x 2m a year. Definitely not a 4 x 4.
I think Kerfoot will get more than what the Leafs should pay for him on the open market.</div></div>
If it costs more than a $1 for Alex Kerfoot, it's an overpay. You don't win with guys like these in the league

That is dead on abt Rielly and ideally we get another 2nd pair guy and Mccabe 3rd pair is better for a SCF team and sign Schenn to play 3rd pair ideally

In an offensive season never seen by the likes of Nashville where everyone had their numbers pumped up. Maybe they don't like what they see with his injury, maybe Trotz is uncomfortable with the player that he is. I suspect we'll see some big signings with Nashville over the next 2 years (UFA or RFA)

I don't think it's a coincidence that Lindholms production fell off a cliff when Gaudreau left. Not a player I'd want to give that kind of contract to, frankly.
I'd look more at a guy like Backlund for a 3C spot

Big Carolina Trade
I just don't see the value in the trade for the Leafs. I like Jarvis but Leafs need a RHD (Lilijgren) long term more than a winger.
Despite the rumours that Carolina has a bullet proof defence, and the Leafs are horrible, the Canes allowed just 10 less goals than the Leafs last season, .....so is one year Pesce THAT important.
Don't know why TMLBrian said, "What Canada pulled on Bertuzzi". Gee, Canada just asked people to Covid vaccinated before they entered the country. Believe the US did the same thing to foreigners.
Personnally I don't know why folks are so ga ga over the often injured 53 point Bertuzzi.

Scott Laughton - The 13th Forward
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GladeBang12</b></div><div>It's a tricky problem for sure, especially with the lack of options.
Orlov will be 32 by the start of next season. I don't mind what he brings stylistically. I think he's a good player. But at that contract it's a no-go.
I've made several posts recently acquiring Mittelstadt if Buffalo ever decided to make him available. If they're out on Helley and they don't like the price of any of the UFA options, then a deal centred around Samsonov could work. I think there's a lot of upside to Mittelstadt, and I think he could even make a good 2C so Tavares can move to the wing.</div></div>
Have a look at the new roster. Having one of Schenn, McCabe and Soucy on each pairing should cut the after whistle antics way down and allow guys like Mtthews, Marner and Nylander some protection out there.

100% forego signing orlov, absolutely not what we need imo. Better to get mayfield or Soucy or bring back Schenn to play with Mo. what about JT Compher (~$4-5M); like his speed and you could play him @2c at times with Marner to add speed

Get Hill And Get Bigger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>None of those you mentioned are ready with the exception of Holmberg. Leafs need vets to fill out the bottom-six, not small rookies. Acciari and Perry will be very effective together.
And Lowry is a versatile guy who can play 3C, or move aside to 2C in case there is an injury to JT or Matthews. Plus, he's big, he's good on the PK, he's cheap and he has term. I hope Treliving gets him if he's looking to trade with Winnipeg.</div></div>
McMann and Robertson are ready. Robertson was the Leafs best player on a couple of nights before he got hurt. McMann is ready for 3rd/4th line duty. Whether or not he scores up here after breaking out last year in the minors is another story. He is a big body that is good in the corners and down low. Let’s see what he can do.
Guys like Perry are finished. There are more than a few guys in the league that play great against the Leafs and do little else against other teams. Old man Perry is now one of those.

Mittelstadt
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GladeBang12</b></div><div>I was thinking it's more about the long-term picture of their organization. If Middlestadt puts up another solid season, I could see him asking for 4.5-5 million. Looking at all the elite forward prospects the Sabres have, not sure that contract would make sense long-term, especially when they are in need of defenceman.</div></div>
Your thinking isn't off-base - but it seems they may bite the bullet by waiting to see if Mittelstadt carries his hot (and injury-free) play from this past season into another full season next year before deciding what his long-term future and contract value should be. There's been some media speculation that Buffalo may try to bridge Mittelstadt on a short-term extension to lock him at a lower cost in case he does continue with a strong full-season.
