Mitch Marner Middle-Man

They're both 1 year (1 playoff run) contracts and one of them can drive a line by himself and a proven playoff performer...you're right...they're not comparable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>1 year of Marner at 50% would have absolutely massive value. The bulk of which would go to TO. Of course no one will agree with that. But this is cap friendly, so the Hawks fans in this instance likely think they should get a top prospect and a 1st to retain while TO gets a 3rd for Marner.</div></div>
I understand how you feel. I was absolutely furious when Patrick Kane got a 2nd round pick because he was able to choose his destiny and he used the rights he earned. I was upset because the other side didn't give the value that I thought my player was worth. Marner at 50% would be one of the best contracts in the NHL. The NYR paid Patrick Kane a WHOPPING ~$168k for his services. And a 2nd rounder is all we could get?!?!
It's a tough spot. Toronto Media is doing you/him zero favors. The fact that Marner wouldn't take the presser and that market keeps rubbing it in by replaying over and over again Nylander (of all people...talk about ironic) yelling at Marner about This isn't Juniors Bro! Hawks can play a role. Treliving will go shopping for partners if Marner is actually the one going...he does have a full NMC and can stay if he wants. I actually think that's what should happen. Value will be very hard to find right now for either JT or Marner.

This is actually one of the things I very much like about this site. This is a horrible idea, but it might lead to a good one eventually. We can 100% take 1 year of cap space for the right price. Open up options for TOR to make something happen for Marner because of this NMC.</div></div>

Yeah, the Leafs need more. But this is the part of the year where the rest of the league feasts on Toronto's corpse! A time-honoured tradition. You don't like it, be a fan of a different team. ;)</div></div>
If I was a fan of a different team, I wouldn't care about the Leafs. Anyone taking time out of their day to make sure they can get a stab in on leaf fans for some kicks is part of the problem in society. What a sad world we live in.

Top Ten Tankin Retool
Trades aside, if you are starting your rebuild you should be targeting your next 1D first as they will take longer to develop. This being a primarily defense heavy draft makes that a far more logical direction. If buium is still there when the Pens pick they should instantly take

Tank for Top Ten Protection
Tough call. I think you gotta take the 1st this year and give them next years. Not just betting on yourself per se but if you've got a guaranteed top 10 pick take it. We really going to be worse than the bottom of the bottom next year and miss out on a 1-5 pick? Worst case scenario you lose a few spots, from like 9/10 to 6/7. Plus honestly would rather get a top 10 prospect in here so hopefully he gets called up sooner. If drafted this year and all goes well maybe 2-3 years after. If drafted next year and all goes well looking at 3-4 years later. Idk that's my thought. Take the bird in hand...

Probably the most disgusting thing is that this works with the cap. Man, I hope the league eventually cracks down on this LTIR crap.

This is a well thought out re-tool. I’d vote for a lot of these. Not sure Kane comes here. Not a great Goalie situation. I think if they trade Jarry, it’s Blomqvist’s job. Nice ideas. They need this kind of shakeup.

Empty The Chamber Already

The way they've utilized him throughout his career, including being scratched recently, hint towards the possibility that they move on from him. Their forwards all play a somewhat* 200 foot game, he really doesn't, but he's got the skill to be in the top 6, but won't crack it in LA. So he's stuck in checking roles that aren't his strong suit. It's tough to gauge his value.

Graves would be ideal in Calgary. He’s a More Physical Left Shot Tanev who Produces More Offence. His contract is fair and perfect for his age too.
1st + Prospect (would prefer Luostarinen) + Graves + ?/possibly more for the retention and/or delayed draft pick!?
Graves-Andersson
Kylington-Weegar

A late 1st to secure value. Value is value whether it’s at the top of the roster or the bottom. Gravy would be playing 19 minutes a night.

It’s funny how this is…I think the true value is somewhere in the middle; but this as is definitely an overpay by vegas, especially when you factor in that brining Smith back all but guarantees Jake is a rental

This trade is the literal embodiment of "all our bad players for your good players" and you want a more "reasonable price". Lmfao

Feel like that’s a better 1st for the pens, tampa has been on a decline so if that continues that’ll be a higher pick then it might be this or next year. And i think it lines up more with when the pens would “officially” be in more of a rebuilding mode.

What's Better: Keeping Jake and still having a bunch of problems with the team, or Trading Jake for good assets such as a 1st and an A-level Prospect and gaining at least $9.125M in cap (from sending Carter to Free Agency) and being able to sign someone like Reinhart in Free Agency.

That jake trade is pathetic
No one is givng up anything to take on Campbell and you are adding at least 2 1st round picks for PIT to take that back.
Let alone take that horrible contract and then sign MAF for no reason at all.
